The Monday Night booth with Levy, Griese and Riddick, and then i'll get to the Mannings, which btw: are they going to be making brownies tonight on the Deuce?
-Levy IMO is one of the best I have heard in a while doing the play by play. I think his voice and tone are fantastic, not too up in the clouds, down to earth and he has some strong comedic timing or ability to put a funny or humorous spin on a great many things. To be honest, i don't think he even needs these other 2 guys in the booth and think he could be stronger with just a 2-Man booth because he can provide plenty of his own observations and they are usually right, his awareness reminds me of Marv Albert. I know he has been doing hockey for a long time and he's probably better at that than this but honestly I feel very comfortable with him in the booth and he doesn't sugarcoat it when things are wrong or teams are messing up. He also is good at setting up his two partners.
-Griese is inadvertently funny and blurts out some hysterical things but it's not because he is telling jokes, he gets his foot caught in his mouth more than I do and he tends to let the other two in the booth beat him up, he can take a joke even when he is the joke and that's what makes him work in this trio they assemble, I think they need him in between Levy and Louis Riddick.
-I was a bigger fan of Louis Riddick prior to the MNF assignment he landed. I do enjoy his commentary but sometimes he can wear just a little thin, almost know what he's going to say before he speaks. That said, he has conviction and seems to know what he is talking about most of the time and keeps Griese on his toes, almost like Griese is scared of him at times.
I like this trio and would prefer they not mess with it for a while. They have shuffled so many on off this set for some time except when they had Gruden.
The Manning Brothers offer a different spin and appeal to a lot of fans who get bored listening to the usual football booth week in and week out. I can't see this being a long term thing unless every couple years the baton is passed off to a recent HoF level QB or player and they can widen the audience. I think it's interesting that ESPN dedicates 2 full channels to MNF, that's at least making an attempt to appeal to a couple audiences that tune in on Monday Nights, some fans might watch that have no real rooting interest in the game just to see Peyton and Eli, they are somewhat funny and you know Eli just rips Peyton any chance he gets around the house. It's subtle at times but you can tell Eli loves getting under his skin.
