Agreed. He was down and the Eagles defender didn't let up at all and knocked him on his ***. Obvious penalty.

You really think he saw him take an obvious knee, thought to himself "wow we're going to get the ball back with a chance to win the game, but I'd really rather tee off on this guy instead even if it costs us the game"?
It was patently obvious he wasn't intending to hit a guy late. It was an unexpected drop-down "kneel" that took a moment to register for a guy running full speed trying to catch the QB on the game deciding play.

They were outplayed on both sides of the line of scrimmage, committed some dumb penalties and turned the ball over 4 (should have been 3) times. Most times when that happen, you lose. At least the result was in doubt until the end.

Why not throw a bomb and hope for a PI and another shot? Way better chance of that happening than the lateral play that has worked about twice in the history of the NFL.

That a DE who's fighting the tackle has a split second to see if the QB slipped or if he went down like a *****.
I think its mostly just Eagles fans, who are upset they are no longer undefeated. Very easy call by the refs, basically a no-brainer.
Refs were pretty fair all night in my eyes, not good mind you, but fair. That last call was the right one for sure.
Intention is irrelevant. Most penalties aren't on purpose.
The right team won. Eagles played like crap, so much sloppiness.

The worst call was the Goedert non-fumble face mask. That should be reversible if the NFL is serious about keeping the refs out of game changing calls/non-calls.

Hah -- Yahoo has Washington winning 26-21 with the defense getting 15 points.

Yep...he took like 4 steps. Seemed like he tried to pull up at the end, but should have never been close. had PLENTY of time to not hit him at all

Eagles earned the loss but they sure had a lot of help getting there.

The referees sucked, for both teams. There were some horrible calls both ways.
If you don't want the refs deciding the game- play better. WAS came in as double-digit road dogs and outplayed us. It doesn't get any simpler than that. Hats off to Scott Turner for calling a great game, and Heinicke for executing.

really can't disagree more, but it doesn't matter because this is like #11 on the concerns with the team tonight.

Manning used to curl up and fall to the ground on purpose. I don't recall him ever actually taking a knee on a regular pass play.

Hearing Graham's interview after the game, I think even he knows it was the right call. He's not complaining at all.
But he should be able see there is an Eagle already sitting on him? It was a late hit, granted not roughing the passer, but definitely a late hit. The whole Eagles team knew it. It was a mistake, but still a penalty.

I don't have any connection to the Eagles. It's just not going to be obvious to a guy running full speed on the decisive play of the game that the guy in front of him, in a situation where NO ONE EVER TAKES A KNEE, has taken a knee and not just slipped. It looked like Graham was diving to try and touch him down before he could get up. The contact looked worse because Heinecke got knocked into him (knocked that way AFTER Graham had dove to touch him).
No dog in this fight, but it was just an impossible situation there. There's no way a guy on that situation is just going to stop and think "huh, maybe he's taking a knee in this situation where no one has ever taken a knee before" while sprinting full speed a dive away from touching him down.

Of course he's going to take the blame. He's a team guy. Feels like he let his team down. But how do you tell a lion to stop mid charge? He tried to pull up and couldn't.

i don't know if anyone is arguing that it wasn't the right call. was a smart play, but if this is the way the NFL wants the game to be, every single QB should take a knee when a sack looks like it is coming so you can get a free 15 yards. a DL coming in as fast as they can will never be able to just stop and not hit the guy

Not a fan of these refs at all, and they could have kept the flag in the pocket at the end and it would have been at least a plausible rendering of the rules.
As it was, they ****ed up like they did all night by interjecting themselves into the game, and they threw that piss-poor flag.

It was a soft hit, but not a hug. Again...there was no excuse to touch him at all! FOUR STEPS AFTYER HEINEKE KNELT.

The non call on the facemask was horrific. Though I thought the refs tried to give the Eagles a few make up calls. Bottom line was the time of possession stat line, at least for the first 3 quarters. They just couldn’t get Washington off the field.
Watching and analyzing the end of the game penalty on Graham. I respect the "letter of the law" interpetation of the rule.....but I do feel like this move by Heinike is one that is going to have to be better interpreted by the refs in the future,....otherwise any QB feeling immense pressure can drop to the ground in the hopes of getting a roughing the passer call.
I lost my game because of the Devonta Smith fumble lateral at the end.

Just saw this morning someone in our league did as well. He just pulled ahead by 1. Probably went to bed thinking he had it when the Skins started kneeling. I wonder if he woke up this morning like "wtf?"
