I told you people.. but you didn't listen to old Darth. "oh the idiots are so great". "Cowboy Up". "Manny being Manny", "We're dirtballs". "There's the loveable Caveman patroling Center". "Arryo's album is great", " THE BLOODY SOCK OH MY GOD THE BLOODY SOCK". All you fool fans of other teams were ecstatic that the RedSox embarassed the Evil Empire in 2004. You lapped it up like nickle beer happy hour. But... the worm has turned. Little did you realize you got rid of one monster and replaced with another one. Maybe next time you'll root for the natural order of thing.
The "natural order of things"?????????????????????????Jealousy is not your strong point.
Let's let the evil empire embarass themselves. Nice job of treating your manager by the way.
Alot of that's hyperbole, but the root message is true enough; the rest of the league treated them like darlings and didn't realize that they were as bad as the Yanks. As far as Torre goes...I'm waiting to see. If they continue with the status quo and go out and buy a few big name free agents andact as if othing is wrong then it was a mistake to let him go. If they make a committment to a small rebuilding with younger talent and go with a manager they feel is better with yongsters than Torre would have been and it works... then it was the right move.
In '04, the Boston payroll was much closer to the rest of the league. In the last few years, the revolving door at short (will they be paying the Tigers for Renteria this year?), the Drew & Lugo contracts, and Dice-K have brought them into the NY range. I do find this bothersome on one level but I wonder how avoidable it is. Use Damon as an example, the Yankees were more than willing to "steal" him by paying a couple million per year than other teams may have been willing to spend and/or putting an extra year on the deal. Consider Clemens as another example... There is real inflationary pressure to compete in the AL East.
I think it was the right time to move on without Torre. He had a great run but sometimes it is just time for a change. Good point about a younger manager being a better fit with a younger team.
How do you argue that Boston is closer to NY then the rest of the league?Yankees payroll is 44% greater then the Red Sox
Sox payroll is 24% greater then the Mets
Yankees - Sox = 64 million
Sox - Mets = 28 million
Look at the percentage difference....Yankees:Sox = Sox:Tigers
All of this is ignoring Luxury Tax (which makes it a fair bit wider)
There is no one that compares to the Yankees. That said, this offseason to be determined, Yankees have money coming off the books. The gap may be narrowed soon where that statement can be accurate. Or the Yankees spend a bunch in the offseason. Time will tell
