MOP weekly RB thread, need some feedback and suggestions (1 Viewer)

Hey boys and girls,

As the 2008 season is getting to unroll I wanted to take a minute and get some feedback form everyone for the upcoming season. I am going to be pressed for time quite a lot this season so I have taken some necessary steps to ensure that things run smoothly on my end(fingers crossed), and also I wanted to shuffle things up a bit so it doesn't become monotonous.

I would like to hear what some of you would like to see before I get a template put in place that I will likely use for the entire season. As usual, if I have to emphasize guys like LT on a weekly basis, you're in the wrong thread. I will cover all 32 starters each week, also want to try and get all the back ups or COP backs included every week as well. A good example of that is going MB III and Felix Jones each week.

This season should be the most challenging with all the different 2 back systems that teams are using. My goal is to make sure you ahve all your bases covered. But again I really want to hear form the board as to what you like and don't like.

I also have enlisted an additional hand this year. If you have not been reading JGalligan, do yourself a favor and start looking over the threads he starts and or posts in. He's a brash Patsfan that lives up near Boston and initially he is going to spotlight a few games each week, and I will either agree or disagree with his POV, but I think the thread could use a different POV and should also spark some good debate each week.

Let me know what you all think.

Thanks,

MOP

I think you should close each weekly post with a different recipe involving bacon.
:( :lmao: :lmao: Luscious Turkey Bacon Refried Beans

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)

3 slices turkey bacon, diced

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1/2 fresh jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced

1 (15.5 ounce) can black beans, with liquid

1 cup chicken stock (more as needed)

1 teaspoon salt to taste

1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper, to taste

1 cup chopped fresh cilantro

DIRECTIONS

1. Place turkey bacon, onion, garlic, and jalapeno in a saucepan over medium heat, and cook until the onions are transparent. Turn the heat to low and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the onions have caramelized to a deep brown, about 1 hour.

2. Pour in the beans, and mash roughly with a potato masher. Pour in 1 cup of chicken stock and bring to a simmer; simmer about 1 hour, stirring occasionally, adding more chicken stock as needed to achieve desired consistency. Season to taste with salt and pepper, and stir in cilantro just before serving.

MOP & Footballguys -

I love the information provided by both footballguys and specifically on the message board from MOP! THANK YOU BOTH!

Something that I would love to see in both the weekly RB writeup (MOP) and Rankings (Footballguys) is some type of outperform/underperform chances - using the projections as a baseline for drafting and weekly starts. Evaluating the probabilities of overperforming or underperforming that baseline is the trickiest thing.

Any flavor of that variety that MOP or Footballguys can provide would definitely be a value added - example:

Larry Johnson for the year projections

Rushing 1204 (high case 1400/low case 900)

Receiving 289 (high case 350/low case 200)

Rush TD 9 (high case 13/low case 6)

Rec TD 1 (high case 3/low case 0)

Ideally looking at the range might give us ideas on "safe bets" vs. high upside/high risk picks in both the draft and weekly picks...evaluating which ones are safe bets vs. high risk/high reward is the one thing that challenges me each week and with the respected opinion I have of Footballguys and MOP - any help there would be much appreciated!

Have a great day!

Hey boys and girls,
are there really girls here?
Rumor has it they like to stop in here...In all seriousness, I get PMs form the ladies all the time during the season, and they don't ask if they should start LT or not. Actually, some of them are pretty savy and have found this place. Had a woman win her league last year and she was the only woman in a 12 team league. I probably should use the term ladies and gentlemen, but that is just too fromal.

Well first off I appreciate the posts - but my biggest complaint would be the same i have with every site's RB recommendations. Rarely are we in the position of having to choose between starting Clinton Portis and Reggie Bush - for most of us if those two backs are on our team, they are starting. Where we need some help is in that 3rd RB slot (probably a FLEX spot) for guys like Ricky Williams, Maurice Morris, Sammy Morris. Should we start them over the 3rd WR we have on our roster?

I know - it's just too difficult to predict when these guys will go off but I for one would apprecitate it more if someone looked at matchups for those types of backs rather than clear cut starters.

Again, I do apprecitate the posts - but more for the reading, because they are well thought out and I use them more for a comparison of my RB matchups versus my opponents to see if I need to look for some points somewhere else.

i agree w/ MarcO. We need fewer "start Adrian Peterson" analysis and more "Warrick Dunn is a good play this week" stuff.

MOP doesen't do projections.I do projection ranges but only if I have time.Play IDP it will help you pick the right matchups because you will understand defenses so much more.Weekly projections are tough as it is. From what I recall FBG weekly projections hedge by giving an average chance on past performance. For example .5 TD projected = 50% chance to score. I don't know how much this gets adjusted due to matchup and other mitigating factors. I think I see what you are saying here though.

Oh, don't worry. I'll be covering that in my section at least. I should have a backup RB sleeper/guys to keep your eye on type post later on tonight too, if your interested.

I understand but remember there are guys in leagues that have very deep rosters, or play in dynasty leagues where they may have several options in the top 2-3 tiers each week to choose from.I agree we need to focus on RB3/RB4/RB5 types, but if you know you're stud RB is going to have challenges, it might make you take a chance on a WR2/3 with bigger upside but more risk. One season I was lucky enough to have both LT and LJ at RB...at WR I just tried to have guys that were consistent over guys with big upside but big risk. I ahd a huge advantage at RB so I just went with guys that I knew I could count on.Good point, but there are reasons why folks might want both.

I didn't read everyone's reply, but thought I'd throw this out:

Every year there is a guy waiting in the wings to make a FF impact. Maybe at the end of your posting you could highlight a couple of guys who seem to be getting closer to their opportunities (that is if you catch wind of it as it's a lot easier said than done).

Hey, MOP: Always look fwd to your wkly posts during the year to match up against what I already have in my head. Let's me reconfirm my decisions or gives me another angle to think about.

Anyway, I thought it'd be helpful to post an example from last year (especially for all those who aren't familiar with MOP's threads)

RB match ups to Exploit/Avoid week 13

My suggestions for the upcoming year:

Keep the formatting that was suggested last year.

Team Matchups in Big BOLD letters (lets us scan thru the thread quicker)

Color code some of the Heavily Favored RBs and RBs to stay away from

Also, I'd like you to consider adding the Rushing Rank of the Defenses the RBs will face (and/or the avg Rush Yd per Game they give up) so we can maybe see how much the running game will be emphasized by the other team.

Example:

Cincinnati (23) at Pittsburgh (4)
