Seattle board stating it's a done deal. Will be assistant head coach, and DB coach. Most likely going to be HC when Holmgren retires.(Currently signed through 2008)

This was the only proof I could find. http://nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9944160 Take it for what its worth.

MORE MORA

Last month, in a radio interview that might well have cost him the Falcons head coaching job, Jim Mora revealed he would like to coach in the state of Washington.

It looks as if he's going to get his chance, albeit in a different capacity.

The Seattle Seahawks are on the verge of hiring Mora as their assistant head coach/defensive backs coach. The New York Giants, who have a vacancy at the defensive coordinator position, also still could make a run at Mora. But the former Falcons head coach has an affinity for Washington and the Seahawks would be a perfect match.

Jim Mora has what the Hawks want in their coaches: knowledge and passion for the game.

Mora comes from the Mike Holmgren coaching tree, played football at the University of Washington, and has openly spoke of his desire to return to the area. The Seahawks could use a coach of Mora's passion and knowledge, and they know it.

The Seahawks front office is enamored with the idea of adding a coach like Mora who could help the team today and then, down the line, be considered as a potential replacement for Holmgren whenever the Seahawks head coach decided to retire from the game.

I think it's a great hire...

I like Mora, personally. I think his hiring in Atlanta would be a good one, but I just don't think he was a good fir for that team. Especially with Vick and everything that comes with him (I truly believe Mora Sr. hit it right on the head calling Vick a "coach killer.")

Besides, it puts Mora a lot closer to his dream job! :goodposting:

"Seahawks? Don't talk about Seahawks," Mora said. "Are you kidding me. Seahawks? I'm just hoping I can coach a game, another game."

I don`t think mora was ready for the Falson job, he seemed like a tool at times. Plus the pressure of trying to run a pro-style offense with Vick at QB is tough on a coach as well.

mora will probably be a better head caoch next time..if he gets another chance.

It's amazing how you find a way to mention Vick in every one of your posts. Simply mind-boggling.

mora seems like a decent guy but I don't understand why ppl want him as a coach. When he was in charge of the niner d they were in the bottom third in the league, when he became head coach he insisted on an offense that was totally wrong for his qb and when his team is still in the playoff chase he "jokes" about wanting to coach another team.

:goodposting: On the hire I love it. Mora Jr. is a sharp guy and he has the enthusiasm this defense needs. The DBs could use all the help they can get. First order of business: Get rid of Michael Boulware. :bye:

I still can't bring myself to agree with that. I know he's been a liability, but his freshman year he was a force. And that was only 2 years ago. There has to be a spot for him, dime or special teams, because he's good at run stopping and he;s shown in thepast that he CAN play the position. I just don't think cutting him is the way to go. What I would rather see is getting other personnel in there so that we aren't relying on him to start when a safety goes down.

Seahawks Add Jim Mora To Coaching Staff (1/21/2007)

1/21/2007

By Mike Kahn - Seahawks Insider

Jim Mora

KIRKLAND - The Seattle Seahawks made their first major move of the off season, and it’s a big one to the coaching staff.

The Seahawks confirmed Sunday they had come to terms with former Atlanta Falcons head coach Jim Mora to be their assistant head coach to Mike Holmgren and secondary coach.

The son of former NFL head coach Jim Mora Sr., the 45-year-old Mora is an alumnus of the University of Washington and attended Interlake High School in Bellevue. He was named head coach of the Falcons in 2004 and compiled a 26-22 record in his three years – plus 1-1 in the postseason. The Falcons set a franchise record with 11 wins in his first season and became only the 11th rookie coach in NFL history to win a division title. They moved on to the NFC Championship game in that first season – only the second time in club history – by virtue of blowing out the St. Louis Rams 47-17 in the Divisional Playoff game before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10. The Falcons were 7-9 under Mora this season.

A candidate for the Miami Dolphins head coaching position vacated by Nick Saban, Mora agreed to terms over the weekend with Holmgren after the Dolphins awarded the job to Cam Cameron. Mora was hired by the Falcons from the San Francisco 49ers, where he coached for seven years – the first two as the secondary coach and the final five as defensive coordinator. Not coincidentally, Holmgren’s NFL career originated with the 49ers as well – so they have a lot of mutual connections.

The opportunity to join Holmgren’s staff, as well as returning to the Pacific Northwest, was an opportunity Mora wasn’t about to turn down for himself or his wife and four children.

"I'm thrilled to join not only what I believe is a quality organization, but for the chance to work with one of the finest head coaches in the league,” Mora said. “That, coupled with the opportunity for my family to be in the great Northwest is extremely exciting."

Mora was a defensive back for Don James with the Huskies from 1980-83, and was an assistant on James’ staff in 1984 before moving on to the NFL with the San Diego Chargers the next season. Mora spent his first season with the Chargers in the personnel department, but moved on to be a secondary coach for the next six seasons in San Diego. His next stop was a five-year stint in New Orleans, where his father was the head coach. During those five seasons as secondary coach the Saints twice led the NFL in fewest passing yards allowed.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to add someone to the staff with the energy and passion that Jim brings to the game," Holmgren said. “He is a strong teacher and talented coach who will make us better."

Mora takes over the defensive backs for Teryl Austin, whose contract expired and moved on to the Arizona Cardinals late last week. The Seahawks will officially introduce Mora some time in the coming week.
