"Fluid" Asst Coach, Robert Saleh - GB and formerly the head coach of the 2024 New York Jets (1 Viewer)

Why are we firing this guy? He’s a defensive coach and that defense has been good to great.

Might want to look at whoever the GM is.

The QB play there has been atrocious. Trading for Reddick without a plan to get him on the field.

It’s going to take Rodgers a little time to get up to speed. That Denver D is good.
He had no control of the team from the moment Rodgers walked through the doors. Saleh's comments to the media this season were were panicked and immature. I've said this before, but I still believe he will be a great head coach some day and this experience will be invaluable, but he simply wasn't ready to lead a team. Someone will bring him on as a DC, he will do great, and he will get another shot down the road.

Rodgers or not, Saleh failed to assert dominance in his leadership role and it cost him his job. He ran out of excuses and Rodgers played him like a fiddle to get him out. Jets are one of the worst franchises in the NFL right now. I agree with your take on the GM.
How do we know he's not a great leader? Comments to the media? Dan Campbell said all kinds of ridiculous stuff to the media.

That team kept fighting for him last season. Didn't they? 3rd fewest yards given up in the league.

Yes. That’s one reason. You have a hall of fame QB known for his cadence which is a weapon, and that’s what you choose to blame for penalties? Really?

Campbell is quirky, no doubt, but you don’t hear him blaming his star players’ best traits for losses or penalties. Come to think of it, comparing Campbell and Saleh is laughable and probably didn’t deserve a response.

I call on @karl.Racki who was quick to point out the exchange between Saleh and Rodgers during a Win a couple weeks back and you try to not make a lot out of it but looking back...
It was a direct view in how Rodgers has little to no respect for Saleh and didn't want him coming up and cheering him like a fan boy every time the Jets scored

I don't understand why Rodgers would want Saleh fired, if that was the case he shoulda spoke up end of last season and gotten someone else in the off season
5 weeks in, gonna be hard to save the season
That said, the Jets win and they are tied for 1st Place in the East
Rodgers is a strange breed. Their personalities didn't mesh and Rodgers wanted him gone. I honestly don't think it was more than that. Regardless of my thoughts of Saleh as a HC, this was petty. Rodgers could have chosen to be the company man and make Saleh look good (as he did with Hackett) vs tearing the man down through manipulation and ensuring he got fired.
Whose personality does mesh with Rodgers?

Did the fact Saleh was sporting a flag that was not an American flag on his shirt a couple weeks back, did that have any impact?
Or did it have anything to do with the fact they used Security to walk him out?

What other head coaches has that been done with and was there any specific reason given for using the Chief of Security?
My feelings are they did not want him to interact with any of the players on his way out, but why?

People are finally seeing Aaron Rodgers for exactly who Packers fans have known he is for the past 4 years. Great talent but at what point does everything else outweigh that talent? And when the talent slips...

Thanks for honoring me with one anyway.

I can see why the Jets continue to lose.

I just traded Wilson after this news. I can only imagine that locker room and the tyrannical powers Rodgers wields. I'm out.
I’m thinking about trading for Rodgers. If he’s running the show and just wants to sling it. Let it fly.
There’s no way that I would want Rodgers on my FF roster. Plays slow so they run fewer plays. Methodical. No rushing. Potential picks galore due to tight windows and not being in sync with his receivers (see Mike Williams)
I disagree - especially if they land Devante Adams. History has shown Rodgers plays very well when backed against the wall. They have weapons- 0 chance they include Wilson in any deal - He can be had for cheap so Id buy as a bye week/backup QB at this time.

Plenty of people who are fired from large organizations are escorted out by security.

You no longer work here. It protects property and assets. And it reduces the chance for a scene when it’s a surprising firing/let go.

This is done so much it’s sort of a trope in movies and tv shows if you watch enough.

The biggest one involves embattled offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who could be stripped of his playcalling duties. Ulbrich was noncommittal, though he did say he would consult with Rodgers.
It amuses me that Rodgers hold Hackett's fate in his arm.

I appreciate that and I'm fully aware of how security works in large organizations and companies
-From what I gather, this is not common for a man in Robert Saleh's position, we haven't heard about many other coaches walked out by security

Was Hackett escorted out with security when he was fired within 1 season in Denver?
You have to ask why Saleh got special treatment if this is not a common occurrence.

There are between 6 and 8 head coaches that are fired every year, are they all escorted out by the Head of Security?
Maybe it's as simple as some places they just ask the security guy to watch the cameras a little more on days they fire the coaches
I would think this is a bad look for the Jets if it's not something that is practiced with other coaches

McDaniel for Miami was not their first choice by a long shot, they were rebuffed by 3-4-5 coaches before they settled on him as a "hot candidate"
What did he do for Shanahan actually?

I would like to know if this is something that happens often by the other 31 NFL teams because it obviously made enough noise it was reported.
If it were so common or the other 31 teams do it, why would they feel the need to print it today?

I'm just asking, I'm curious if its common practice
There is something going on in that locker room, wait until we start watching players fight on the sidelines or getting into heated exchanges during the games

Rodgers, and specifically Aaron since even his own family doesn't like him.

Seemingly pretty rare in pro sports though.

I vaguely recall a fired coach not being able to get in the building.

this is the 1st I’ve heard of an employee being frog marched out. lol

I think you can drop the conspiracy angle of this. Saleh had a Lebanese flag on his shirt because he's Lebanese.

And Johnson was thinking of firing him as far back as last season:
"The Jets would have been better off staying cool. Or if Johnson was so down on Saleh, he should have fired him after last season, which he reportedly considered."

You never really know what's going on inside an organization. Firing Saleh at this point in the season, on a Tuesday no less, seems weird to me, but what do I know.

But did you really have to have security escort him out of the building? Who does that?
Pretty much EVERY employer, no? That's not uncommon at all.
really? Maybe in a job that has no guaranteed pay but let's face it Saleh got fired as the head coach but he keeps his salary. I'll gladly get fired today if I'm going to still make close to $20,000 a day for the next 2 years.

Flown in on a private jet to get hired, escorted out of the building by security to get fired..are you kidding me? How low is that. What a joke of an organization.
Isn't that what happens to most people when they're fired? That doesn't really bother me.

I guess..Saleh just needs to make sure they have the correct bank account to send his $583,000 a month check for the next 31 months.

He needs to be gone. The comments to the media following the underperformance this year are pathetic. I've been a huge Salah supporter and fan, but it seems that support may have been unwarranted. It's starting to feel like he's been given a free pass because of lackluster QB play, but he's running out of excuses. He doesn't seem to understand how to run a team of men, not yet anyway. He needs more experience under a real head coach and I believe he will get there some day, but some of his behavior recently has reminded me a little too much of Josh McDaniels. Immature inexperience.
no one better to replace him makes most sense to fire him after season. Saying he needs to be gone without a clear upgrade doesn't make sense.
And this is why the Jets are the Jets. What a $hit$how of an organization. I think deep down they are addicted to chaos and attention even if it's negative.

what a lucky SOB dude gets paid and no longer around a toxic environment and gets to spend time with his young children.

They should have fired him after last season. He's not a HC, he's a DC. Just like Brian Flores.
Brian Flores is guilty of one think IMO taking a job with a bad owner and organization.
Flores is garbage and a hypocrite. He is a good DC but clueless as a head coach. His lawsuit about racial discrimination in coaching when he hired one of the staffs with the least amount of minorities in the entire league says it all.

Saleh was on the field at Packers practice earlier this week and yesterday was wearing Packer branded gear. According to LaFleur he’s advising their offense on tactical issues. The Packers have been pleased with their new DC so I don’t think that position is on the table, but I wouldn’t doubt Hafley is keeping one eye on the large bald man out there. Lafleur described it as a “fluid situation” whateverthehell that means. I can’t imagine he’d do this if it affected his Jets paycheck.

If it’s not the Packers, he’ll land somewhere else as a DC and I have little doubt he’ll do well.

Hafley is friends with him too. And obviously really good friends with LaFleur.
I think the fluid thing is all about the Jets $$$ as you mention. Just not going to have a permanent position with GB

He's where he belongs - DC or consultant for DC. He'll have a long career with GB or SF. Just not HC material.
Happens alot. Ray Rhodes was a solid coordinator, sucked as a head coach. Spagnuolo is another who is a great coordinator but wasn’t cut out to be a head coach.

Rousing applause from Packers' fans there watching from reports I read
both @SwampDawg and I were cheering for Miami to pick him up but that didn't happen of course

By the sounds of things, this could be a couple weeks or maybe through the end of the season at most but there really isn't a place for Saleh in Green Bay (or at least not one he would ever accept) unless he can kick field goals.

Retreads are still retreads, even if they get a haircut and spit shine.

It's likely been a long time since Saleh, Rhodes or Spags have gone in for a haircut.

That's OK, the Packers and LaFleur raised their hands and separated themselves from other teams by making a bold move
On one hand he doesn't fit but on another his first hand knowledge is invaluable

-They aren't asking him to do a lot of heavy lifting, just add in some thoughts for their defense which is playing well
IMHO the DC was told about this and immediately said "Get him in here, NOW!"
Why would he want to rob the team of a valuable leader that can help them get to where they want to go
Saleh is making an easy path for at worst, DC next team and much like Brian Flores has been having fun in that role, so will Saleh with his next team
I think at some point in the future we will see him as a Head Coach once again
Jets were the wrong team for Saleh, he needs a reclamation project where he has 2-3 years to build up from almost nothing
That should be his next move

The Chiefs carry 2 Head Coaches and it's working out pretty well for them
Guys like Andy Reid welcome great minds into their coaching staff
They don't feel threatened, they learn and grow even stronger
