Let me clarify:

No one has ever had 9 Touchdowns as a receiver in the first 5 games of the season ever, the 2nd most is tied with some pretty big names at 8:

>= 8 Receiving TD in first 5 games Rk Player Age Year Tm Rec Yds Y/R TD1 Calvin Johnson 26 2011 DET 29 451 15.55 92 Frank Clarke 28 1962 DAL 22 572 26.00 83 Harold Jackson 27 1973 RAM 16 423 26.44 84 Randy Moss 27 2004 MIN 26 394 15.15 85 Jerry Rice* 27 1990 SFO 35 574 16.40 8
At 45 Receptions, Welker is currently second all time in first 5 games for receptions:

At 740 Receiving Yds, Welker is currently #1 all time in receiving yards in first 5 games:

Interesting that the TD record avg age is 4 years younger than the receptions record avg age.

And that Welkers age is a clear outlier in the yardage records.

So are we just gonna do this thread every week until the SP finally agrees?
First time ive seen an actual poll, im sure there has been discussion but ive been busy, was legitimately curious how people felt about this since both feats are freakishly impressive.

Thats an interesting point:Wes Welker 30 Years old, 5'9", 185 LbsCalvin Johnson 26 Years old, 6'5", 236 Lbs

:lmao: :lmao:If I recall correctly, the previous CJ vs. Welker polls were which is "more dominant", and which would you rather have on your team. This one is which is more impressive!

Curiously, neither of those years were the ones in which Moss and Rice set their respective records.

I guess differentiating between dominant and impressive is confusing for jackasses. Its clear they are the two most dominant WR thus far this year, comparing how dominant they are comparatively to the rest of the player pool is pointless because no one is even close and they are completely different types of receivers.

Pulled straight from Profootballreference.

Honestly, I think I'm more impressed with what Welker is doing simply because he has not been gifted with the ridiculous physical gifts that Calvin has. With Calvin I find myself wondering "with his size-speed combo, why hasn't he done this earlier?" to which I know the answer is "because Stafford was always hurt".

Welker is a 30 year old white 5'9 185 lb receiver. He does not fit the mold. Yet, somehow, even though everyone knows he's coming, they just can't stop him.

That's impressive.

Welker has the lowest Y/R of all the WRs on the yardage list.
Yes he has the highest (by far) of all of the WRs on the catches list...
It's very perplexing.
The Average of most any statistic will regress to the mean when the sample size is increased, more receptions = less avg y/r.Also should note he had an end around for 20 yards lol and he has returned a handful of punts this year.

What I was trying to say is, it's interesting - we've been talking about CJ's pace, and can he break the record, and all that. And we look up how his fast start compares historically. And we see the two most dominant WRs of all time on the list, the two guys that set the record most recently. And we find out that those years weren't the years that they broke the record. Just goes to show it's far from certain that CJ will break the record. In 1990 Rice only caught 5 more TDs the whole season. Randy Moss was injured in 2004 and missed five games.

Gotchya, my reading comprehension failed on the first post. I think both players paces are not sustainable, that being said, I think its entirely possible they break both the respective records (possibly 2 in the case of yards for Megatron or Welker)Both seem to be unstoppable in their own respects.
