More thoughts on Texans pick (1 Viewer)

Adrian Peterson

Is there any chance - that with decent depth at not only RB, but also at offensive line and some decent free agents to be out there, the Texans drop down to 4 thru the Jets and acquire Mario Williams?

Williams would give them a "strahan/Peppers" type end to add them a pass rush - and by addition of extra picks, they could O line help in the 2nd round?

Dom Davis - though some are for or against him - might not be the superstar with advertising potential - but he can fill the void.

The largest areas of concern have to be the defense and the O line.

Any chances - they drop down to 4 and go for Williams - especially if his stock continues to rise - or will Williams go even before pick 4?

Of course there's a chance. It depends on what else they get by dropping down three spots. In any case, this team needs to move down if the goal is to be more competitive this year. If the goal is to put butts in the seats, then they might just stick and take Bush. I really think Bush's long term FF prospects will be hampered if he goes to the Texans assuming the team doesn't address the O line in free agency or through the draft.

True to form - well said.I would hope as a fan - they target being competitive as much as I would like to see Bush in Texas - I would prefer to see Texans in the playoffs.

The only two picks (other than trading down) that would make sense for the Texans are D'Brick (my choice) and Bush.

agreed bush makes no sense.

they need so much more and if they take bush they will be getting the #1 pick again in the next couple of years.

Although DD is no Barry Sanders, who is? He is still a better than avarage NFL RB. The Texans smartest move is to trade down and address their OL needs. If they remain status quo and take Bush, they will be no better off than they are now. They need some OL help and if they see that DD isn't the answer after beefing up the OL, then they can go after Adrian Peterson in 2007.

Since the Texans have quarterback David Carr and Domanick Davis and Vernand Morency at running back, they are unlikely to draft quarterback Vince Young or running back Reggie Bush. The Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans could be looking at defensive end Mario Williams, who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.66 at the combine.

Indianapolis Colts Updated:02/27/2006

Coach Tony Dungy said the Colts are exploring the option of moving Marlin Jackson, their 2005 first-round draft pick, from cornerback to safety. According to the Indianapolis Star , the Colts will start addressing an extension for Dwight Freeney after the NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins Updated:02/22/2006

According to the Miami Herald, Dolphins runningback Ricky Williams has tested positive after a drug test. But, this time, the banned substance is not marijuana. ... Meanwhile, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports the Miami Dolphins could release linebacker Junior Seau and quarterback Gus Frerotte unless they agree to restructure their contracts to create some salary cap room.

Minnesota Vikings Updated:03/01/2006

Koren Robinson, who got released from the Seattle Seahawks in June, made it to the Pro Bowl as a return specialist. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that with a thin market in free agency and the NFL draft, Robinson would be an appealing receiver available this offseason.

New England Patriots Updated:02/23/2006

After being tagged twice before in his Patriots career, kicker Adam Vinatieri is once again a candidate. The Boston Herald reports that Vinatieri’s tag would cost the Pats a one-year salary at $3 million.

New York Jets Updated:02/27/2006

According to Bergen Record, the N.Y. Jets could seek a trade with the Houston Texans for the first overall pick in the April draft. It is believed that the Jets would select quarterback Matt Leinart with that pick. However, the Jets might have to trade another high pick, or even include defensive end John Abraham in the trade.

Of course, moving down to fourth may put them in a not so tough spot as well. For this, lets say that the Jets give up the #4 and Abraham to move to the #1. That would be a plus for everyone involved if HOU didn't want Bush. So the Jets move up to #1. They take Leinart. So now NO takes Young. If Tenn takes D'Brick, then Houst can still take Bush. If Tenn takes Bush, then Hou still get D'Brick. So, for moving down, they end up with Abraham and D'Brick. Worst case scenerio is Tenn taking D'Brick, so Hou ends up with Abraham and Bush.

Of course, again, if Bush is there at #4, Hou would probably entertain more offers to move down again...

Another thought. Why are we assuming that the Jets would take a QB? What if they moved up and took Bush? Cmart is getting old, and there really isn't a backup/heir in place. The Jets would then, later in the first round, give up a second and their '07 first, for a QB prospect. Baltimore did this for Boller. And Detriot for KJones.

I can't see the Texans taking Bush either. Coach Kubiak is from Denver, and they can find anyone to play RB, once the blocking up front is figured out. It may take them a year to do this however.
