Morlon Greenwood released..... (1 Viewer)

From Rotoworld:

Texans released LB Morlon Greenwood.

His $4.8M scheduled salary was far too hefty for a fourth linebacker at best. The Texans will go forward with Xavier Adibi on the weak side. Greenwood could still return at a reduced rate. He's familiar with the schemes and could be a fine reserve with the ability to play all three positions.

Thoughts.......

Saw this coming, I thought it was going to happen after draft day. He was overpriced for his production. Hope the Giants take him, he's not terrible and for a reasonably lower price tag can be serviceable, we're missing an athletic LB... Pierce is aging, noticeably.

I like his upside but didn't really show anything in full-time duty. His first game starting I think he went for 14 solo tackles as well as 1 assisted but his games were average at best after that recording 3 solos or 4 solos. He's the same as Greenwood I think but just cheaper and a little smaller. Adibi has pretty quick feet but I think he has a problem shedding blockers.. do I think he can work in the right defensive scheme has a role player.. yes. Do I think he's part of the Texans solutions at the LB position, no.

He needs to stay healthy.

Coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that following Morlon Greenwood's release Xavier Adibi will be the Texans' starting weak-side linebacker.

A 2008 fourth-round pick, Adibi showed big-play ability at Virginia Tech and made 15 stops in a spot start last year. He'll be vying with Zach Diles and DeMeco Ryans for stats, but will be a threat for 90-100 tackles next season.

Still a lot up in the air here with the health and potential role of Zac Diles. It's not a lock yet that Adibi will be an every down WLB.

I agree with Jene.As of now Adibi is the front runner. The 2009 LB class is very deep, Houston may draft one in the mid rounds, not necessarily targeting one, but a best player available thing. I would tread careful with Adibi.

There is a link in the off-season thread, but Kubiak expects Diles to be ready for all of the off-season stuff. Also, Rick Smith seemed to like the LB class in an interview conducted after the senior Bowl. The current rumors are that Texans may go for an OLB with more size than Diles or Adibi, and maybe even fairly high in the draft. While on the Texans, John McClain has been posting on his weekly draft chat that the Texans are very high on Dominque Barber and want to re-sign Eugene Wilson as a FS. There seems to be the implication that the Texans will have more of a classic in the box SS and centerfield FS look, but no one will be sure until later in the off-season where Frank Bush's defense scheme can no longer be unknown.

I like his upside and speed, but now may be a good time to cash in on him too. I was able to swap Adibi + 2.04 for Lofton + 2.11 which I was very happy with...

I have both in one league. In the other I offered Adibi + the 2.05 for Lofton and the 2.09.
