But, truly hats off to Goselin for nailing Whitner to the Bills. That's just creepy. He must have been tipped off.

I wouldn't put any stock into these rankings... it doesn't factor in correct picks, only correct 1st rounders. Anyone couldve predicted 26 with their eyes closed :headbang: Picking the correct player at the right slot AND the right team (assuming you somehow knew the Ravens would trade up one spot)?....now thats impressive.

I had only 7 player/slot/team picks correct :bag:

Agree. This is not a great way to predict accuracy. Someone could have predicted Mathias Kiawanaka to go #1 and Mario Williams to go at #32, and he's still be a perfect 2-0 on the chart.

Final Gosselin MockUnless he did another mock the same day the final mock I saw had Gosselin picking Bunkley for the Bills.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Yup, the only person that I saw actually having the Bills pick Whitner was Mayok. He must have some pretty good contacts in Buffalo to sniff that one out.

With the draft quickly approaching, I thought I'd bump this and add a link to a site that keeps a tally for mock draft accuracy and 3 year avgs. http://www.thehuddlereport.com/top100/

I always enjoy comparing how my mock scored vs. the pros.

Maybe the guys at nfldraftguys.com should submit their site for scoring.

By the way, how good is Rick Gosselin ?! :goodposting:

Considering that I personally have ZERO inside information (nor do I forsee getting any), I think I'd end up doing this  quite a bit.I think I should asterisk my mocks with "For Entertainment Purposes Only."

You should grade a few out. I've done pretty well over tha last couple of years, and I bet you've done just as well. You get one point for each player correctly placed in the first. Two for each player with correct team. There seems to be a defintie line between the media professionals who may have some inside info and the guy who is just trying to project using know how and common sense.Anyway it is a fun way to grade yourself.

Had him on my Favorites list for a long time. Check him daily the week prior to the draft.

Rick's gotten beaten up around here for no reason (see http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...;#entry6001329) but he's a very smart and knowledgeable NFL writer.I've known Rick for a long time after going to school with his wife at North Texas. Rick is a must read for any serious NFL fan. The Dallas Morning News just made their "Cowboys Plus" online section free through registration. (It was a pay feature for the last two years, they’ve seen the errors in their ways.) You can get Rick's big weekly NFL write-up sent in email as well.

One thing I've noticed - Rick's mock on the day of the draft has a huge amount of movement from earlier in the week. He obviously keeps a few things close to his chest to stop people "borrowing" his ideas.

He obviously adjust to the latest news that is available at the last minute the he nor anyone else had access to earlier in the week.

Agreed, I'd like to see a more elaborate point system. Maybe something like 1 point for every player correctly picked in the first, and then a bonus of say 3 for being within 10 spots, another 3 points for being within 5 draft spots and then another bonus of say 10 points for picking the exact spot/team.Some way to reward the people that get it right on, rather than just picking the top 32 players etc.

I like the 1 point per correctly placing in the 1st.2pts for placing the correct player and team. It's simple and takes into account accuracy to a point.Give it a try this year and see how you do.

The problem, IMO, with the simple scoring system is that the deviation between best and worst is 4 points. It does not really tell you that much. I think a more elaborate scoring system would separate the scores a bit more and more accurately show who guessed the best. I just think that if you are going to go to the trouble of creating and keeping a website devoted to the best draft 'prognosticators' the least you could do is find a better way to rank their efforts... I do make my picks but I suck, I don't have the IDP or offensive linemen knowledge to be able to do more than use other mocks to guess needs. I do agree that it's fun though. My buddies and I meet in a bar and relentlessly ridicule every wrong pick made by each other. There are penalty shots assessed for really bad picks. It's a long day sometimes...

You're probably right, but I'd have to take off my shoes and sock to count up a more sophiticated system so I'll stick with the simple version.

I hear ya. After a couple penalty shots I'm hard pressed to even find my shoes... ;)
