Tony Mandarich was the first guy that came to mind. We know now it was a steroid facade but he was a beast at run blocking in college. And as terrible as he was for the Packers - exposed as a horrific pass blocker - once he got off ‘roids, pain killers & alcohol, he had a couple three productive starter years with the Colts.
He lives out in Arizona now, works as a landscape photographer, been sober 25 years. Everyone thought he was a can’t miss, ten year pro bowler. Ya just never know.
He’s 52 now & his daughter is around 27ish. Think she’s in Colorado maybe? Anyway she’s also in a creative field, and I saw some quotes from her in an article about him a year or two ago. Basically he instilled in her a core belief that talent helps but at the end of the day it’ll always be more about effort. If you wanna get what you want out of life, it’s gonna take work.
Sounds like dude nailed the most important job of his life.
