I had a double order orange chicken 2 item combo from Panda Express yesterday and I'll be damned if Chinese cuisine isn't the best in the world. That stuff is like crack.
I was a judge at a cookoff in Texas, like a dream come true. Like 20 terrific chilis of varying degrees of ingredients, heat, and awesomeness. Then the 21st tasted like somebody made it with decomposed seal meet and diapers. Luckily I just went back to the hottest of the previously tested chilis and got the taste out of my mouth, but I burped it for 48 hours. :XBased on several workplace chili cook offs I'm amazed at how bad at chili some people are
Yes?Do you hate all curries?Japanese, Chinese, and Thai curry?Indian but I hate curry so I guess to be expected.
Is chili with corn cake tex mex? That is what i came on to say.....terrible food in every way.Nomination: Tex Mex. Sucks.
I believe there is a curry out there for everyoneYes?Do you hate all curries?Japanese, Chinese, and Thai curry?Indian but I hate curry so I guess to be expected.
They dont have cooking competitions for dishes anyone can make goodBased on several workplace chili cook offs I'm amazed at how bad at chili some people are
My sister makes very good chili but onpy simmers it an hour and ive been telling her to simmer 3-4Really good, homemade chili is amazing.
Scottish FTW.I have eaten insects and worms before but no one can make me try haggis :X
We have some good Ethiopian places in LA but I get what you're saying. I like the food but the bread gets to be too much. It's very tasty but the lack of texture (or maybe the lack of variety in texture) is kind of a turn-off for me. Nothing crunches or snaps or takes much in the way of chewing. It's just flavorful but mushy stews with non-descript injera bread. There are some cuisines that I could eat just about every day but Ethiopian food isn't one of those.Ethiopian food is some of the best stuff out there, dammit.Ethiopian
I'm not convinced Ethipiopians are actually starving. They just don't want to eat that crappy food.![]()

I'm basing this on a sample of 3-4 places I've been to in SF, not the entire Horn of Africa so don't go hijack my boat to avenge the insult.
I can see over-rated but how you #### up sausage?I ate at a German restaurant the day before yesterday. It wasn't very goodI agree, but my point is... there are no German restaurants. If it was any good, you would be saying thatPlus, it's not prevalent, so it can't be overrated. "hey honey, let's hit the German restaurant for dinner tonight"I wouldn't go so far as to say it's disgusting, but I find it really bland. I like schnitzel, but spaetzle is blah.German food is pretty disgusting.![]()

IMO, very few stews really develop particularly complex flavors simply by simmering longer. If I really want a flavorful chili, I don't simmer it longer. I just make it a day ahead and reheat from the fridge. My sister makes very good chili but onpy simmers it an hour and ive been telling her to simmer 3-4Really good, homemade chili is amazing.
Can chili be all it can be without a long simmer?
Nachos are dry and you can grab individual chips fairly cleanly. Most of the Ethiopian dishes I've tried are wet. This is more like sharing a bowl of chill with 4 buddies and no spoons.I like Ethiopian food a lot. I agree that its texture is something that I couldn't have every day. But I'm not Ethiopian, so its not a problem.
I don't find sharing a plate of Ethiopian food any more unsanitary than sharing an order of nachos.

From my limited experience, Ethiopian food is just bland.pollardsvision said:I really want to like Ethiopian food, and I don't mind the messiness of it.Nachos are dry and you can grab individual chips fairly cleanly. I kind of like eating with the injera, but is it always so bland (the other food mainly, I assume the injera is always bland)? Can any of you metropolitan city slickers verify that I just haven't eaten good Ethiopian food? Or should I just give up?
Yeah, it's actually pretty spicy in my experience. If you are paying $500 per plate for anything at any restaurant then it is overrated.Haven't read the thread, but it has to be French.
Just because they invented many aspects of modern cooking like 200 years ago doesn't mean it's worth $500 a plate now.
I think you've learned to trust me by now.Yeah, it's actually pretty spicy in my experience. My "most overrated" is Korean. And not just because I'm getting the watered down version of bulgogi and bibimbap at the local sandwich and salad shop. I've been to Korea and everything. Don't get the appeal at all, have been totally befuddled by its newfound popularity in the US. The liquor is tremendous, though.
The point is, French is the cuisine which typically reaches those heights of cost and why? Most of it is history and hype.If you are paying $500 per plate for anything at any restaurant then it is overrated.Haven't read the thread, but it has to be French.

We've got everything covered except good Italian - really tough to find good Italian restaurants in L.A. for some reason. That's why I love L.A., and my part of L.A. in particular. I have a German/Swiss restaurant up the street from me, plus a Burmese spot, Indian place, Himalayan restaurant and Pakistani place within 10 minutes. And yes, they all taste different.
