Mountain Man to be activated from the Practice Squad (1 Viewer)

We take a chance on guys like this because there is a chance. Nothing more and nothing less. We're not saying Johnson will be the next stud, all we're saying is that we're not closing our mind to the possibility he does something. It's the same reason why you carried Jalen Parmelee, T Sutton, and in some cases Arian Foster on your team. Yes, Arian Foster wasn't a sure thing either.

I remember when people were picking Arian Foster off the WW ;) I was one of them. Too bad I traded him for a 2nd rd rookie pick in a dynasty league.

How are his blocking skills? Can he pick up a blitz? Im really not familiar with the player.

That would be one reason he isn't seeing the field. Often, that is the reason a talented runner can't get onto the field. Blount's blocking wasn't an issue. Neither was Foster's.

If he can't block other teams will load the box when he is in the game and send extra men into the backfield on run blitzes. It becomes hard to do anything in those circumstances - run or pass. Better to develop him until he is not one dimensional.

Just my thoughts.

If he has so much talent, why did he get cut with clowns like Moreno and McGahee ahead of him?
...and Lance Ball.
Guys have different roles, it happens all the time...hell just last year Blount was cut and Tenn tried to put on the practice squad and now he's a starter. The opportunity is there for someone to potentially step up so I'm definitely interested. If you've got a spot with a crappy wr5 taking up space in a deeper league pick him up for a week or two and see what happens. If he goes in and gets some carries and looks good he'll be a top WW pick and you might not get him. Preemptive pickups like these can be key if you've got a dead spot on your roster.
He's third on the depth chart. I'd be shocked if he saw more than a few carries. But if he gets in the field he's got a chance. Trouble is in preseason against backups he didn't show much at all. Will be interesting to see IF he gets on the field.
and so was Tate a week ago...now it's Ward who? and he doesn't have a Foster in front of him. He's got a journeyman vet and a bust in the making in front of him. My biggest issue is that the potential "prize" (if he fights through and rises to the top of the heap) isn't that appetizing because the Denver backfield isn't a real sexy situation. You could still always package him to a desperate owner though....getting way ahead of myself but the point is there is clearly a void in Denver and I suspect that Moreno will be out several weeks so someone will get a shot with Mcgahee...Like in Houston where I put my money on Tate (due to explosiveness) to rise to the top, I think Johnson has a decent shot based on what I've heard/read.

Sounds like nothing more than an insurance move to add an extra RB with Moreno being out. As he didn't generate any buzz even in the preseason, tough to get excited about him.
you must not have paid attention the Bronco Camp thread
Admittedly, I did not, but the coaching staff obviously valued Lance Ball, who we have seen enough of, more than JJ. If you have any professional assessments, pass 'em along, please. :) His preseason game logs looks very pedestrian ( though that can be said for the whole RB-squad ), and the fact that this is his 3rd team in his short career and nobody has even seen fit to give this guy a game jersey tells me that they've seen something(s) that the fantasy scouts who are high on him haven't. That said, one of those teams was Carolina, so it would be no small feat to leapfrog onto the gameday roster.

Anyway, I know Cecil is high on him, but what else do we have? If there's evidence suggesting I should boot Karim, Carter or Antonio Brown from my redraft roster, then I'm happy to. :)
That's enough for me. Cecil has made his share of wrong calls, but he right often enough that I have found it well worth my while to pay attention to what he says - I can remember in Broncos training camp of 2009 him saying in August that the RB that had shown the most of all the RBs in training camp was Peyton Hillis - not the rookie pick who was the projected starter, Knowshown Moreno. That said, it is unlikely that Johnson is the next Hillis, but I am willing to take a flyer on the WW in the event that Cecil has recognized another diamond in the rough.

My dad got to know Dan Blocker a little bit back when Bonanza was on air. Dad was a mechanic and worked some years at the Lincoln-Mercury dealership in North Hollywood. Back then most of the Hollywood celebs were driving Lincolns. He also knew the guy that played Riddler in the campy 60s Batman series, the guy that played the Virginian (I don't remember either of their names), and I guess the biggest cheese he met working there was THE Alfred Hitchcock.

The cast of Bonanza put out a record album during the height of their success believe it or not, where Pa, Little Joe, Hoss, Adam all actually sang Country/Western songs. Blocker passed out autographed complementary copies of the album to people at the dealership and I still have Dad's copy (Dad died in 2008). Blocker died pretty young as I recall. 70s? Been gone a long time anyway.

But I digress. On Johnson, I won't be able to find it but I read somewhere in preseason that the problem was that the Denver scheme didn't fit with Johnson's style and that was a reason he was cut. Hell, I dunno if that's worthwhile info or even accurate, but that's what I read.

You know, in Sweden he's known as Yeremiah Yohnson. :D

Wouldn't Lance Ball have the first crack at carries after Willis McGahee?
better RB: JJbetter special team play: LBit's that simple. If McGahee or JJ were injured in addition to Moreno, Lendale White would return... he can't play special teams either, but he's a better RB than Ball.

Seems like you guys are ignoring John Fox's history. The guy would have to be 2x better than Moreno/McGahee to get 40% of the carries. That said, he may be used twice a game in crunch time for goal line carries.

NFL teams make RB3/4 roster decisions as much on special teams ability as anything else. Lance Ball is likely a better special teamer than JJ; the fact that he was rostered ahead of Johnson does not mean he would get first crack at RB minutes, or that he would do more with them.
I agree with 4th RB, but you'd have to consider the coach or offensive style to determine if a 3rd down RB is an integral cog or not.

Do you see Denver promoting him this week?

One thing you're not taking into consideration is what he does with those few carries. If he does well they could transcend into more carries and the snowball affect. That is how nobody becomes somebody.
I am picking up Ball and starting him over Ingram this week. I'm desperate due to injuries & bye week. Other RB options on many WW's are the Cardinal RB's Alfonso Smith & La Rd s-howling. Problem with AZ backs are they go against the Ravens, I'll take Ball in Denver against the Lions. I'll post any JJ sightings when/if they occur.daddybronc says:October 26, 2011 at 12:29 pmBroncos work out RBs Sutton, OmonBy MIKE KLISComments (3)PrintEmailShareWith Willis McGahee expected to miss at least the game against the Detroit Lions this Sunday, and maybe the following week’s game at Oakland, the Broncos are searching for running back depth. The Broncos worked out Xavier Omon and Tyrell Sutton on Tuesday. Omon played for the Buffalo Bills in 2008-09, when his running backs coach was Eric Studesville, who now holds the same position with the Broncos. Omon has since bounced from the Seattle Seahawks to New York Jets San Francisco 49ers to most recently with the Cleveland Browns.Sutton has played for the Green Bay Packers and the previous two years in Carolina, where his head coach was John Fox, who now holds the same position with the Broncos. The team has not yet signed either back. The Broncos may promote Jeremiah Johnson from the practice squad Saturday for the game against the Lions.

This was the first time that I read the news that Denver worked out Sutton. I am really surprised that Fox didn't want him on the team, as he is a good special teams player and a very adequate running back.

I'm really hoping that he manages to connect somewhere in the NFL. He is good enough to be on a team.

I remember Cecil being really high on JJ in training camp. Without going through all of the old practice reports (twitter hard to read and all), why did Bell make the 53 ahead of JJ?

Here's my thoughts...if anyone knows anything better, pls correct me:

[*]Bell is a better all around RB, in terms of short yardage, protection, route running, etc. He's the safe play - the guy you want backing up starters, as his floor is higher. Just good enough to be a legit NFL caliber back-up RB.

[*]Jeremiah Johnson is a guy with better pop and vision, but doesn't necessarily have the complete game. He comes out of a spread option offense, and may not be well suited for a traditional NFL passing O.

If that's the case, JJ is the guy you want as a WW flyer, in lieu of Moreno's and McGahee's injuries, right? JJ is the one who has big play potential, the one who is a threat to take it to the house any given carry, especially in the new spread option offense that Denver is running these days.

The dude may simply have not ben a good fit for the Orton offense. Guess what? The Tebow offense is very similar, if not identical, to his

.I'm buying in every league I can.

Bell made the 53 due to special teams play. But JJ is the one to take a flyer on this week (if McGahee sits).

How come he didn't get any more chances today? He looked pretty damn good on that 25 yard run, which was about one of the only plays of this particular game that I saw.... Anybody have some thoughts?
