MSNBC panelists make fun of Romney's black grandchild (1 Viewer)

squistion, I normally enjoy your posts, but you're talking nonsense. Of course it's a news channel. How do I know? Because whenever there is breaking important political news (like the State of the Union Speech, as the most recent example) MSNBC not only covers it live but offers several hours of commentary. Come on now.
OK, I am glad to see that in the future, I can give a link to Rachel Maddow as an objective news source.

Seriously, MSNBC is no more a news channel, then FOX is a news channel. Both are predominantly opinion channels that incidentally also have news. I think most progressives/liberals do not think of it as a news channel or would argue that it is. Carrying some news or breaking news does not make it a news channel, per se, IMO but if you and others see FOX and MSNBC as legitimate news sources then we will have to agree to disagree.
No one's debating that. But your original statement was "Except MSNBC doesn't call itself a "news" organization and it is not considered as such" when clearly they and other people do.

They're much more slanted than CNN. But they're still news channels. Just as William Randolph Hearst's newspapers were considered just that, despite the fact that he pushed his own opinion. We've had this sort of journalism forever, but it's still journalism.

I think hilarity would ensue if some conservative took Squiz's tack and said Rachel Maddow wasn't actung as a real journalist or that msnbc was not a real news channel. Squiz why don't you tee that one up in a new thread and you can hear all the cons applaud you and you can beat back the progressive defenders of msnbc.all this should be quotable for future use when msnbc breaks stories like the Christie scandal. Should be a hoot.

I agree. It is a not a real news channel, nor is FOX IMO. As I said a few posts back, it is an opinion channel that incidentally also carries some news, but that doesn't make it a news channel. If you look at their promotional ads, they are not saying "Come here for the news," and they have never claimed to be "fair and balanced" or objective in their coverage.

I don't accept Sean Hannity as a real journalist, so if someone were make a similar claim about Maddow, I wouldn't agree, but would just shrug it off as their opinion and being similar to my opinion of Hannity.

And I seriously doubt that conservatives here would automatically accept a link to what MSNBC was reporting as undisputed fact (or at least they haven't in the past, as recently evidenced by the Christie scandals, as what has been reported by MSNBC has hardly been accepted as gospel around here).

As an MSNBC viewer I was very bothered by this. This is not commonplace for the network, should not be endorsed and I expect better.

That is really going to cause havoc with their programming with all the RNC staffers who regularly appear on MSNBC programs.

News isn't always accurate, reliable, and unbiased. Both Fox and MSNBC are news organizations.

I cant believe people have problem with that concept. Is Rush Limbaugh a news channel?

Its all newstainment. IMO, pretty crappy, but apparently a lot of people like it.

Sure. MSNBC employs the biggest race baiter of them all, Al Sharpton, and let's not forget Melissa Harris-Perry. But it's not commonplace for the network. Riiiight.

Sharpton is a funny dude. He's given sermons that show him as basically the most anti-gay person on the planet, but he keeps his mouth shut in the MSNBC liberaldome.

Actually that isn't true, at least since he has been on MSNBC. I would like to see some links to any recent anti-gay sermons. If you ever watched his MSNBC show, he supports gay rights and has gone public with that stance - plenty of links could be provided but here is just one:

Al Sharpton, ministers support Maryland gay marriage

Black clergy members who support same-sex marriage say they want to dispel the myth that all African-American ministers are against it.

About a dozen clergy members joined the Rev. Al Sharpton on Friday at a news conference in Washington to express support for a November referendum in Maryland to allow same-sex marriage.

"To take a position to limit the civil rights of anyone is to take a position to limit the civil rights of everyone," Sharpton said.

I'm fully aware he supports gay rights politically, that was my point. He started doing this recently.

Have you ever heard his sermons? I can't link one but he believes it is unnatural and leads to the destruction of our culture. I'm telling you, it's the most vehement anti-gay rant I've ever heard. Howard Stern plays it. It's actually hilarious it's so angry.

How many years ago were the sermons? I am not disputing you can't find something that reflect that, but I am guessing those sermons are at a least a couple decades old and don't believe that has been his position since the turn of the century (but I could be wrong as I wasn't paying attention to him). Some peoples attitudes towards gays have done a 180 since the 60s/70/80s, particularly in the black community. I don't recall anything particularly anti-gay when he was running for President, but it would not surprise me if he was against gay marriage at that time (as were most of the other candidates).

Didn't he have antisemitic sermon-rants too?

Crown Heights had some victims, didn't it?

He's kind of a Jeremiah Wright who cashed in, changed his style, and got on tv, remarkable.

Don't forget about Chris Matthews.

Wow. I knew Matthews was a ####### blowhard who loved to say stupid ####, but I had no idea he had played that card so many times. Pretty unreal, when you think about it. I guess the fact that he is on in prime time there is a good reason why MSNBC's rating are in the toilet. I mean, what intelligent human being would watch a guy like him on a regular basis?

It's true. Hell, I have a lot of progressive and liberal views, but the attitude of many (see: not all) hardcore liberals who think they are so enlightened and are often as racist, narrow-minded and intolerant as those they rip to shreds, is nauseating.

Apparently it worked.

"The tweet last night was outrageous and unacceptable,” Griffin said in a written statement. “We immediately acknowledged that it was offensive and wrong, apologized, and deleted it. We have dismissed the person responsible for the tweet.”

Griffin’s apology came after Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus announced Thursday morning he was banning his staff and RNC surrogates from appearing on MSNBC until the network's president personally apologized.

“I personally apologize to Mr. Priebus and to everyone offended,” Griffin said.

RNC spokesman Sean Spicer said Priebus accepted the apology.

“We appreciate Mr. Griffin’s admission that their comment was demeaning and disgusting, and the Chairman accepted his apology,” Spicer said. “We will aggressively monitor the network to see whether their pattern of unacceptable behavior actually changes.”
