Murray owners. Should we handcuff with Felix? (1 Viewer)

With Felix's injury history himself is he worth handcuffing if you own Murray? And given his name value and some projecting a time share you will have to probably get him early, so would you take him before you have other starting positions set?

I'm mostly thinking of startups, but we can talk redraft as well.

I wouldn't take him before other starters. If Felix is not available in the later rounds I'd rather roll the dice on Tanner. I think he's the sneaky play.

Felix is not worth drafting as a handcuff.
I think he is, given Murray's history. Felix hasn't stayed healthy himself but if Murray went down he would get the lion's share of the touches (until he gets hurt as well). And he's not bad, despite being not nearly as talented as Murray apparently. There are bad handcuffs and good handcuffs, and I think Felix is a good one, provided he isn't expensive.

Expensive being having to take him over a decent RB3/WR3 and then having less than stellar options at those positions?. Not to make this to AC but I'm looking at deep 14 to 16 team leagues

I wouldn't take him over a good RB3/WR3, so yeah, that's a bit too expensive for me.

I think Murray's injury was a fluke thing. If any player has their foot turned sideways like that their ankle is going to break. I probably wouldn't draft Felix as a handcuff, unless it was at the end of the draft.

I think I would avoid both right now. I don't think that Murray is the clear cut #1 if Jones is healthy. I don't like to remove games from someone's stats, but outside of the St. Louis game, when St. Louis was beyond horrible at stopping the run, he averaged about the same as Jones per carry. I drafted Jones and was quite upset when he got hurt right before he got to the nice part of his schedule and I didn't have a high enough waiver spot (unfortunately on the team with the shortest bench of all my FF teams).

After Murray got hurt, Jones played quite well. I wouldn't be surprised to see a real RBBC approach as I think both are about as good as each other and both have already had injuries missing games. Maybe more like when they had Barber and Julius Jones, although I am not sure who would be the goal line RB.

Unless one really shines during pre-season and is named the unquestioned starter, this could be a bad situation where you have to draft two players and neither, without injury, produces. I have seen some top 100 lists and I sure wouldn't draft Murray where he is projected in the 2nd round.

Big Ben on the line for you sir.

Agree.I actually think people have it backwards. Its Murray that isn't worth what it will cost to draft him, based on the hype and the tendency people have to warm up to the new faces. Felix, not Murray, will be the value pick here.

Murray got the benefit of coming in fresh and playing a string of really bad teams. But even after just a few starts, his numbers were dropping quickly when he got hurt and Felix played really well down the stretch.

I've said it before: This is a situation where you either want both or neither and you have to decide whether you are willing to pay the price.

And its worth considering because this combination WILL be productive. And each of these guys WILL get a chance to be the guy at different spots. But when you look at each man's history, whether that is NFL or college, neither has shown that they will stay healthy an entire season.

And that's the problem. Felix isn't going to last that long. Someone's going to take him too early either by believing the Murray injury hype or desperately gambling on the hope that the light is coming on for Felix this year. Every time a McFadden or Spiller turns the corner and produces, it pushes the value up for someone like Felix who has the wheels but just hasn't put it all together yet. He's the perfect reach guy. Good draft pedigree, has shown glimpses of athleticism, but an overall body of work that is disappointing considering the expectations. So you think he should slip, but you know that no one has forgotten about him. So then you decide to reach a round or two early because you buy the upside and are afraid that someone else is about ready to take him.

Kinda surprised to see Felix will be only 25 in May and entering his 5th year.FWIW he is slated to make 1.7M this year, a contract year.
Yep. Funny how guys always seem a bit tougher in those contract years. Of course I would never bet on it (or draft on it), but after seeing how productive felix was down the stretch, I wouldn't be surprised to see him being a great value next year.
