FTR- the song this band wrote that was covered by the Bangles was “Going Down to Liverpool”. That in turn got them noticed by Capitol Records and the rest was history.
Couple things I really like about this tune besides its cheerful upbeat lyrics and melody: the fast speed that the band is playing, particularly the drums, and how sweet the vocals are: she sounds like Smokey Robinson to me. A timeless classic.

i like windy and it reminds me of carrie anne by the hollies which is a song i really like take that to the bank brohanTurns out The Association's "Windy" is NOT their only hit. This song reminded me of it -- and there it was on the same page.
No schtick -- love that song.
Not who you mean, but Tony Burrows had 1hw's as lead singer for Edison Lighthouse, White Plains, The Pipkins, Brotherhood of Man and The First Class...and at least 3 of those were on the charts at the same time.
One down, four to go. I actually dated a girl named Rosemary a few times when that song was on the charts.68. “Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)”- Edison Lighthouse (1970)

Check out the groovy girls in this old video- so awesome. This is a happy snappy tune, makes me feel good.
Susanna hoffs would just have to roll her eyes and it was over.Bangles did it better.
Seriously? Windy wasn't even close to Cherish, and was barely above Never My Love and Along Comes Mary.Turns out The Association's "Windy" is NOT their only hit. This song reminded me of it -- and there it was on the same page.

I love Along Comes Mary. I’d put that above Cherish and Windy.Seriously? Windy wasn't even close to Cherish, and was barely above Never My Love and Along Comes Mary.
It would have been a much bigger hit, except a lot of AM radio stations (which were the big ones then) didn't want to play songs promoting "mary jane"I love Along Comes Mary. I’d put that above Cherish and Windy.
First glance I thought it was the "Convoy" guy, which may be coming up yet.66. “My Maria”- B. W. Stevenson (1973)

Love the guitar on this song. I also love the yodel like chorus. A classic from the golden age of soft rock.
It won’t. That was on my list of songs excluded earlier that didn’t make the cut. A cute novelty song but just not good enough.First glance I thought it was the "Convoy" guy, which may be coming up yet.
Good call.It won’t. That was on my list of songs excluded earlier that didn’t make the cut. A cute novelty song but just not good enough.
It certainly is unrelated to anything to do with this thread- unless I’m missing something? On a completely unrelated note, Grant Gustin of The Flash got caught vaping in an airplane bathroom
Just a guess that it relates to the vapors of Grant Gustin. It certainly is unrelated to anything to do with this thread- unless I’m missing something?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1HwVmY28PkThere will however be at least one more song coming up later that involves a woman named Maria...
It is a popular name in songs isn’t it? Don’t forget West Side Story...
I was a little too young to partake in those sorts of shenanigans when Tommy Tutone was a thing. Was that number used in your local area code?
It was in mine.
Changed very soon afterwards.
I'd like to think that I had a small hand in that.
Good times.

One of the easter eggs in Duke Nukem 3D was finding that number written on the wall in the bathroom.Along with someone's phone number.
Well at least it was not a Burger King bathroom. On a completely unrelated note, Grant Gustin of The Flash got caught vaping in an airplane bathroom
i guess he is not as fast as his character, who is said to be as fast as lightning....
Huh. I thought this was a Brooks and Dunn original many years later.66. “My Maria”- B. W. Stevenson (1973)

I’ve always loved this song. These guys are really good performers too. I love how it’s a pop song and then the disco suddenly emerges. Great stuff. Lots of professionalism here.

YesJust a guess that it relates to the vapors of Grant Gustin.
In fact it was a little bit frightening.Yes
plus. The fast as lightning refers to what the other song could be
I'll be sure to send a note to my wife about it.There will however be at least one more song coming up later that involves a woman named Maria...
Could probably do a whole Joe Biden album, no problem:Joe Bidens favorite song!
Brooks & Dunn do a solid job with the song ... it's a faithful cover, a little slicker with more contemporary production. Then there are us oldtimers who have never heard the Brooks and Dunn version...and never want to.
Ah my apologies then. Good thinking!Yes
plus. The fast as lightning refers to what the other song could be
Lovin, Touchin, SqueezinCould probably do a whole Joe Biden album, no problem:
"Kiss You All Over", Exile
"Creep - Radiohead
"If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body, Would You Hold it Against Me?" - Bellamy Brothers
"Captain Howdy" - Twisted Sister
"Only Sixteen" - Dr. Hook
What else we got?
One of them could be in time for lunch?Up next: The first of 2 songs on this list that feature what is known in popular music as the “oriental riff”...

Is the one hit you're going to post about what boys like or is it about Christmas?Up next: in addition to the song chosen here, this band is probably best known for writing the theme song to the 80s show Square Pegs.
The one about Christmas was not a hit. Don’t you start. Is the one hit you're going to post about what boys like or is it about Christmas?
It's been in like 60,000 movies/t.v. shows/commercials, been covered a billion times, appeared on pretty much every Christmas music compilation ever, has its very own wikipedia page - plenty of exposure. Plus you knew exactly which song I was referencing without me so much as linking to it.The one about Christmas was not a hit. Don’t you start.
Agreed - the Christmas song is very ubiquitous around the holidays. In fact, probably more popular overall than the boys one. It's been in like 60,000 movies/t.v. shows/commercials, been covered a billion times, appeared on pretty much every Christmas music compilation ever, has its very own wikipedia page - plenty of exposure. i guess the definition of "hit" sometimes transcends peak chart position.....It's been in like 60,000 movies/t.v. shows/commercials, been covered a billion times, appeared on pretty much every Christmas music compilation ever, has its very own wikipedia page - plenty of exposure. That’s true. And honestly I hesitated before putting the other song on my list for that reason. But the other song fits at least one of my criteria and it is also cited by VH1 as one their top one hit wonders and is on at least 2 lists I found: VH1s top 100 one hit wonders of all time, and MTV’s greatest one hit wonders of the 80s. So i feel safe selecting it.It's been in like 60,000 movies/t.v. shows/commercials, been covered a billion times, appeared on pretty much every Christmas music compilation ever, has its very own wikipedia page - plenty of exposure. If we're going by VH1 and MTV, we've got much bigger problems here. That’s true. And honestly I hesitated before putting the other song on my list for that reason. VH1 and MTV are essentially the same thing. And neither should be cited when executing the appeal to authority logical fallacy. Nya nya nya nya nyaaaaa, nya nya nya nya nyaaaaaa...That’s true. And honestly I hesitated before putting the other song on my list for that reason. I’m going to state right now, so you guys know what’s coming, that I took opposite approaches to these two bands.these things are hard to measure, as bands like Free and The Grateful Dead are technically one hit wonders if we go strictly by chart position.
