My Fitness Pal (2 Viewers)

I had my normal Monday weigh in today after completing week 2 of Phase 2.

I lost 3 more pounds. Originally started at 164, now 139, more than 15% off.

I have now lost 5 pounds since upping my caloric intake and starting Insanity two weeks ago.

I am going to up my caloric intake again this week to see if I can find some sort of balance.

I am in a bit of a conundrum here. I need to slow the weight loss down but want to keep doing Insanity. I also don't want to eat too much in fear of once I stop Insanity of putting on weight quickly.

I finished up week 2 of Insanity this morning.

It is night and day how I feel compared to last week. The work outs are still crushing my will to live while laying in a puddle of my sweat but the recovery is fantastic. Almost no soreness now; knees, ankles, hips, all joints feel fantastic.

Very happy I pushed through the initial pain although I was close to stopping.

I am starting to notice some changes in my body type now as I start to lean out and tighten up the lose skin from the initial weight loss.

As mentioned before, I am not concerned about weight loss during this phase but it would not shock me if I lost 1-2 more pounds again this week. I will be patient though and have my normal weigh in on Monday morning.

Today I had to wear pants (jeans) for the first time since I started to lose weight. I have been wearing shorts all summer. Not only were the jeans silly big on me, I dug out an old belt, and had to punch a new hole in it so that I could make it tighter to hold up my pants.
Nice job man. Amazing what hard work and commitment will do! Keep posting, means a lot to see this kind of stuff  I was talking with someone yesterday about weight loss and I'm kind of at a point where I'm not necessarily losing it anymore as much as redistributing it. Told the wife last night I need a new belt, my old has so many holes in it I'm about to wrap it around twice.
Just happened to me too... I used to go to JCPenney to buy belts in their big & tall section, but I just realized that I can buy belts at any old store now

Congrats!!! Its such a great feeling to not have to go to the fatty stores to get your clothes. I just bought my first pair of shorts in a regular store for the first time in almost 15 years. I lost another 10lbs this week and if all goes well I should lose 3-5 this week. I am really having a hard time with the DDP Yoga. I am the exact opposite of flexible so I believe its going to take a couple of months to get comfortable with it.

Need to kick it in gear as I've got a 3 night trip to Vegas next weekend :excited:

Thank you. But to be fair I gained about 2.5 the week before and I have a TON to lose. I am close to losing 40lbs since July 1st and while it is absolutely noticeable, I fell like I have such a long way to go. The weight loss should slow down in the next couple of weeks and my muscle mass should start to increase. I started doing dumbbell lifting during commercials of the football games yesterday and I quickly realized how much strength I have lost. I use to be able to curl 80-100 lb dumbbels with ease so I figured I would start off with 50's and do reps of 20 during commercials. That quickly changed to reps of 10 and I was pretty much burnt out after 3 sets.

I s'pose it's finally time to drop a post in here. Five short years ago, I was in great shape and finishing up a third marathon; however, I let an appendectomy throw me completely off my training wagon. Excuses begot denial, which in turn, sapped whatever motivation I had to stay completely fit. What followed was a slow, steady climb fueled by non-exercise, bbq, pizza and enough craft beers to float a battleship.

It's not like I set out to be huge, either. It's quite humbling to think back a couple years when I stepped on a scale and saw I was the heaviest I'd ever been in my life. I remember thinking, "I really need to do something about this."

And I did ... I put on an additional forty pounds.

How do things finally click and reverse the trend, though? When do good intentions finally turn to action?

For me, it was losing a parent, and even that trigger took almost two months to finally materialize.

Huge thanks to everyone for starting and keeping this thread going. I've followed along for most of the summer thinking this was something I might be able to do I simply put my mind and OCD to it, and you guys me linked to the thread with continued posts of little success stories along the way.

Four weeks ago, I jumped in, downloaded the app and started documenting everything. The first couple weeks were interesting, to say the least. Like the rest of you, I was absolutely shocked to see how many calories I'd been pulling on a daily basis, even without taking beer and soda into consideration.

Documenting each and every thing has truly become a fantastic motivator.

Friday will mark one month and, to be honest, I don't really feel like I'm on any sort of diet. It's a budget, and it absolutely works if you allow it.

With any luck, I'll add to the 16 pounds lost on Friday and continue towards my goal of 75 pound goal.

I realize this hit TL;DR territory several paragraphs ago, but I wanted to add my .02 to the thread and thank you all for contributing.

Will try not to merely lurk from here on out.

Good to see you here! Congratulations on the weight loss, keep up the good work. If you're interested in getting back into running there is a 10k thread around here as well, jump back on the horse with both feet!

Been on the program about a month now and I am getting close to 20 pounds lost. Want to lose about another 75 lbs. I love the program and it seems to fit me well. Never hungry and I still can eat the types of foods I want. Just have to be careful with portions and maybe eat lighter another meal if I'm going to splurge during one.

I say all of that to get to this. Has anyone came off the plan for a week. How did it effect you. I am going on a 8 day cruise in a couple of weeks. I will not be counting calories and because I am with a group that has open bar privileges I plan on drinking my share as well. I will make sure to get in the gym and do cardio every morning but I will hate myself if I gain everything back in a week.

Been going 2 weeks. Down 10 pounds. Got 45 more to go. I am doing a paleo diet. My goal is 185. If anyone is interested in following another fatty I'm boots11234. I've given up all alcohol and Fast Food. I have A-Fib and ulcerative colitis and am hoping diet and exercise will help with these problems.

Very dedicated to following my plan and seeing where this takes me. After changing my diet and using this app I am very surprised how full I feel while eating less then 1500 calories a day.

Welcome! I added you as a friend on MFP and look forward to watching your progress. Looks like you have a good handle on the caloric intake side of the game. How are you doing with caloric burn (exercise)?

I don't have any advice for you but I do hope things work out. An 8 day cruise is going to be tempting. If you are going to eat, see if you can skip one or two drinks if possible or nurse one. You are not likely to gain back the 20 pounds in a week, but don't be shocked to see 5-7 pounds come back, especially if you drink. Just keep in mind that you know e plan works and if you start right back up again you will start losing as soon as you come back from vacation.

I lost 3 more pounds. Originally started at 164, now 139, more than 15% off.
139?You'll be in that size 4 in no time, girlfriend. Started tracking this past weekend. I'm at 171.6 today. I was only really looking to track nutrition and maybe trim a couple of pounds, so maybe this isn't the thread for me, but it's amazing how tracking what you eat keeps you honest and makes you think hard about what you put in you body.

Yea it really does... plus after a while it really becomes habit. Once in a while I'll go out to eat or have a meal at home that's not so great for me and wish I just had something healthy instead. Hard to believe how much crap I was eating to become such a :porked:

Just do your best with the food - you know whats good for you and what's not.Even if you gain weight (and you probably will) it's not permanent so just work extra hard to burn it all off when you get back.

I started walking on the treadmill 30 min at 3 mph. . Very tough for me, A Fib wipes me out quick but exercise will strengthen my heart. And for a double whammy UC means walking outside can be risky. O well others on this planet have it way worse then I do. I've read paleo helps with UC. I'm giving it 6 months and if it doesn't work I'm going radical....vegan.

I am down to 147. My original goal was 150 but I have changed that to less then 10% body fat. I was at 12.6% this morning. The one bad thing about this is having to get all new clothes. I am feeling good and I think I look good but I am hearing comments from people saying I am taking it to far. I have to admit part of me wonders how light I can go. It is sort of fun.

Nice work!My wife keeps telling to go into maintenance mode but I am not yet ready. It is strange that it was hard to start the program mentally and now it appears hard to stop.

I just joined this morning. And had a pretty good day. Resisted when I was at the store (even though I was hungry) from getting the donuts.

my user name is amoxy and looking for friends. I know that will keep me on track

a bit of a different update. i used myfitnesspal since january. i lost 57lbs. i hit my goal weight 3 weeks ago. since then ive maintained my EXACT weight all three weeks. i love this app. it not only works but you get so accustomed to counting calories and learning how many calories you need, you can do it in your sleep. it changed my life and ill never be fat again.

but my brothers bachelor party is this weekend and im not logging #### :banned:

#### yea! :hifive:NewlyRetired you were asking about my diet on high calorie burn days. Good example from this week, I weighed in on Tuesday at 194, today was 189. I eat whatever I want within reason but I'm at a point where I don't watch the calories so much anymore because I know when I go over ill be making up for them on some other day. First time since high school been under 190  This thing works if you do it religiously. Oh and Otis hasn't logged in for two weeks for those of you keeping score at home

I work out 5 days a week. Ive always worked out. But it was the eating habits I needed to change

Some good updates lately. I am finally ready to get back into my good habits. Spent Tuesday - Saturday of last week in Wisconsin for the Packers game (what a blast that always is - especially Bears week). I upped my calorie goal from losing 1.5 pounds to 1.0 pounds for the week. I was surprised that I netted ahead for the week (weather was excellent for walking). BUT, pizza/curds/bbq/prime rib aren't good calories to take in (and like others have mentioned, I wasn't overly satisfied) and I put a couple of pounds back on (161 to 163). I took one of them off already and hopefully will get the other soon enough.

I changed my goal back to 1.5 when I got home but I think I am close to a comfortable weight and changed it back to lose 1.0 per week. Has anyone reached their goal, still use the app and set the goal to maintain? If so, how is that working out?

Also, I am at a point where I need to "tighten up" from some of the weight loss - suggestions on that? Since we will be hitting winter soon, I may need to look at a gym or invest in home equipment (prefer the gym option).

depending on your level of fitness, I can highly recommend Insanity at this point.I am one day away from completing week three and I can definitely see real changes in my body in tightening up especially after losing the initial weight.

I have decided to move from losing 1 pound a week to losing .5 pounds a week to try and help balance the continual weight loss which appears to not be slowing down while I am on Insanity.

I don't want to shock my body by eating way too much too quickly so I am hoping to maybe do .5 pounds a week for 2 weeks and then move to 0 pounds a week into a maintenance mode.

this is a great update! We need to hear from more people in maintenance mode. It appears that pretty much 100% of the people who take MFP seriously were able to lose a decent amount of weight. I am glad we are starting to read accounts of people in maintenance mode and holding it.

For those scared off from intense exercise (like Insanity) due to back issues, remember that working your core (as Insanity does well) will strengthen the support muscles for your spine and will probably alleviate some of your back issues. I have 4 bulging disks and while Insanity was difficult at first, eventually my back pain went away. I moved on to weight training to strengthen the core muscles even more and I haven't had serious back pain in over a year.

Also, I am at a point where I need to "tighten up" from some of the weight loss - suggestions on that? Since we will be hitting winter soon, I may need to look at a gym or invest in home equipment (prefer the gym option).

Thanks for that - I have read some good info on core training. What type of weight training do you do for the back? I know technique is critical; how did you get that part down?

:goodposting: Bad car accident as a teenager, chronic back issues followed, fixed my core and I've been great since. Was so motivated I even dabbled in personal training for a bit, still do a little bit but just on the side. It's all about the core.Google North Carolina Medicine Ball workout as well as Jared Allen's. Some combo of what they do works for me, just be sure to mix and match and don't do the same thing over and over again. There's enough stuff in those 2 workouts to create dozens of different core workouts for you.

When in doubt, flex your abs. If you start to feel pressure on your back, ask yourself - do I have my abs engaged? You probably do not. If you can't flex your abs anymore, take a break - and be patient - it will come./

a bit of a different update. i used myfitnesspal since january. i lost 57lbs. i hit my goal weight 3 weeks ago. since then ive maintained my EXACT weight all three weeks. i love this app. it not only works but you get so accustomed to counting calories and learning how many calories you need, you can do it in your sleep. it changed my life and ill never be fat again.but my brothers bachelor party is this weekend and im not logging #### :banned:
Wow. Congrats!

 - thanks MAC....once again, some great stuff in here. I will check out the two options you mentioned as well. I have found some relief with various kettleball exercises so far. Good option?

LOVE the kettlebell, work swings or cleans into most of my workouts.

Add me in the "it works" category. Started in January, dropped 60 pounds from 252-192. I have spent the last 4-5 weeks between 192-194. Like Shadyridr I haven't touched MFP in months. Once I got used to the caloric intake of what I was eating it was second nature to stop when I was at my 1400 limit. My mom just called while getting ready for a garage sale and found some pants I gave her last year to sell since they did not fit me anymore. One pair I told her to still sell since it would not be too big on me, the other was back to my size. Still use the same belt just with two more holes in it. It kind of acts as a reminder of what a fat ### I used to be, and where I hope to never be again. When I started I was on hole 2, now I am between holes 7 and 8 and they are further spaced then the premade ones.

Weekly Weigh in Day.

Lost another 3 pounds.

Started at 164, down to 136, down more than 17%. I got to my goal of 144 and then started Insanity 3 weeks ago and dropped 8 pounds more. Yikes.

I think this is going to be my last week for Insanity for three reasons

1) I am having some obvious problems finding a balance eating and not losing more weight

2) I am too old to fail so much :) . Into my 4th week and I am still getting my butt kicked every day

3) Looking forward to getting back to gym to make things fresh for exercise.

sort of off the wagon. The good news is I'm maintaining the same weight since April.

The bad news It's 10 pounds heavier than I want to be ultimate goal. I feel good, need to get a knee operation at some point but overall need to really focus for these 10 pounds

Maintaining beats gaining, so hang in there. Especially if you feel good.

nice work! I'm down 2 more # this week. So after one month, down to 150 from 160. Original goal was 145, but now I'm thinking 140 in case I regress a little when I'm off this hardcore.

For the first time since week 1 Ive been really hungry all day... not sure what changed but I'm really trying hard not to

(I wont... but it stinks haha)

Can anyone suggest a heart rate monitor?
If your goal is to track calories burned, get a bodybugg. If your goal is to measure heart rate, basically any timex heart rate watch/monitor will do. I believe the kind that comes with the chest strap is the most accurate.

Really depends on what you want it for, you can spend $70 or $700. Chest straps are by far & away the best for tracking HR when exercising. If you're just trying to dial in calories you can pick up a fairly cheap one built into a watch that will give a point-in-time reading as opposed to a constant monitoring a chest strap would provide.

I just started using this on Tuesday along with eating better and some light workouts to start. It's very easy to use and instills a nice discipline and accountability throughout the day. I've also been blown away at just how many foods are in this thing. I did a bunch of grocery shopping at Aldi and was surprised to see the exact foods programmed in there.

So far I've been under my calories each day and yet I'm not remaining hungry, so that's good. I don't have a tremendous amount of weight to lose, just 15 pounds or so, but I'm hoping to tone up quite a bit eventually as well.

The one thing that I noticed today though is that the some of the budgeted numbers seem unrealistic to me. It budgets zero grams of any type of unsaturated fat. Well, one hard boiled egg this morning took care of that. I'm also not really sure how you're supposed to hit enough calories with the small amount of protein and sugars they allot. So far today I had the egg, and a half cup of quick oats with a cup of 2% milk, .5 Tbl of chia seeds and a quarter cup of Kashi Go Lean Crunch. So now it's telling me that I have just 11 grams of sugar left for the day and just 33 grams of protein. And that was just a shade under 400 calories. So somehow I'm supposed to consume another 1200 or so calories today with only 11 grams of sugar and 33 grams of protein? That seems like a TON of veggies. Like enough to be making me puke.

The other thing is that the fats don't seem to add up. It budgets 50 grams if fat for the day, but then has just 17 grams of saturated and zero for both types of unsaturated and trans. What other type of fat is there that makes up the other 33 grams?

You're over-thinking it. Just stay under your calories, you'll be in Speedo's in no time. There are quite a few things that don't always add up with MFP, you'll notice the calories they allot for certain types of cardio are crazy high as an example. It's not perfect but it works pretty much 100% of the time if you stick to your caloric goals and record daily.
