My gut (not brain) tells me.... (Wild prediction thread) (1 Viewer)

Michael Mayer has the rare rookie TE breakout year, reminding teams why he was originally thought to be a first round pick.
I can dream
There was too much made about athleticism of other TEs and his 40 time. I'll take a guy who can catch like this or like this on my team any day let alone his willingness to block in support of the run game.
His ability to track the ball while being blanketed is impressive. It really looks like he knows how to use his size to shield defenders too.

I think he's going to be tough to cover at this level.

I didn’t even mention my favorite part. No, he’s not running away from defenders with blazing speed, but for the past two years he’s largely been the only receiving threat ND had.

Watch those clips again and now picture the defense all know 87’s always getting the ball and see how he stands out. You just couldn’t stop him even when everyone knew where it was going.

He's an interesting prospect for sure. His lack of high end speed cost him in the draft but, honestly who thinks a TE needs the run a 4.4?

If he runs a 4.4, guess what? He's a WR.

You can line this guy up in-line and legitimately have to wonder if he's going to release into the pattern, act as a safety valve or truck an OLB to open holes for Josh Jacobs.

Not sure he is a perennial 1,000 yard guy but his real world value to an NFL team could be tremendous.

1. Doubs is WR1 and Watson is the deep-threat/big-play #2.

2. A sleeper RB will overtake Mattison in Minnesota. No idea who but I liked McBride tape.

3. Cleveland, Washington and Indy outperform.

4. Harris leads a newly emphasized Buffalo unning attack.

5. Something decent comes out of the NFC South.

6. Jags have s helluva time winning the AFC South.

7. Herbert and SD Offense don't improve. Questions arise in 2024 offseason.

8. Taking Love/Richardson/Howell in Best Ball is stealing (no substitutions).

9. Da Bears have a top rushing attack and most improved OL.

Alexander Mattison: a player I really like, isn't in the plumb spot that Dalvin Cook was. Totally agree with DonFue, McBride & last year's rookie Ty Chandler (the current staff drafted & like) will both have opportunities beyond just fill.

Rashee Rice & Dalton Kincaid: back my draft priorities, neither is generating the hype other rookies/young players are, but really love their talent/landing spots.

Rhamondre finishes top 5 RB
TLaw finishes top 4 QB
Olave finishes top 10 WR, dynasty value skyrockets
Waller finishes top 3 TE and leads Giants in targets and receptions
Pollard gets 250+ rushes, finishes a top 7RB and people still doubt he can "handle the workload" next offseason

Jameson Williams has another off field incident and finishes the season with another suspension or at least one looming

Steelers finish last in their division for the first time in 34 years :crying:; by mid season Diontae is pulling an Elijah Moore publicly shaming Matt Canada and their piss poor offensive play calling.

ESPN/sports media ramps up the drama over the Eagles dominant skill in the super exciting push the pile play; Cowboys fans, Giants fans, and old men concerned with the integrity of the game cry profusely for it to be (re)banned. League decides to keep the rule. Eagles fans flip cars, climb lamp posts, and eat horse poop off the streets in celebration.

Oh boy, gut feelings here we go. First, if you think Mac Jones will be anything special this season , think again. As one person put it he is what they thought he would be, John Averageman playing for a lesser team in the NFLs toughest division. Please check his stats on pro-football-reference.com, we're talking SERIOUS decline in Y2 from Y1. And that is likely to continue, O'brien was ONLY as good as Deshaun Watson was. Can we just stop the' BOB is great' rhetoric already? It's easy to look good with a healthy Deshaun Watson at the helm. Now you go to , *cough*, Mac Jones? Wow. Nothing can help Mac Jones. He's one of the bottom 10 QBs in the league, and likely to be replaced mid season IMO. Hey Rhamondre, plan on seeing 8-man fronts all season.

My gut tells me that Elijah Moore might be another Deandre Hopkins in Hou during Watson's campaign there. This guy was a stud and only the silly Jets could let him go as if it was his problem what happened last season with Wilson white white Wilson , johnny B good, etc.
KJ osborn is going to post monster numbers - Minnesota doesn't have a RB or a defense, and will have to pass the ball like CRAZY this season. If JJ gets hurt , and if the fantasy index coverboy curse is correct, Osborn is in for a big year,
Nick Chubb is going to lead the league in rushing numbers this year - flirting with 2k. he's that good.
James Cook is going to be and hidden gem this season too many Harris truthers out there. Damien Harris has done exactly what in his career?!
David Carr is going to post sick numbers in a packed offense with 3x more talent than he's ever seen. Guaranteed top 7 QB fantasy numbers.
Frank Reich leads the panthers to a 5 win season as one of the worst coaches in the NFL. I mean, serious Frank Reich? They hired this dope over Bienemy???
Tony Pollard is a fluke as a starting RB he'll bust by week 3. Whats your plan B, Dallas?!
Denver , under Sean Payton, continues to be one of the worst teams in the league. They don't have a QB and they don't have a RB.
Dallas cruises to a 6 win season and McCarthy is fired midseason. I mean serious Brian Schottenhiemer?!?!>!!!!!!
Cam Akers is the most overhyped RB in this year's fantasy drafts and fails to rush for 1000 yards or 10Td despite being drafted in the first 2 rounds.
Lions are world-beaters and represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
Neither Skyyyyyyy Moore or Obj v2.0 aka Toney lead the Chiefs WRs in receptions in 2023.
Pacheco is a top 10 RB
Niners flop, Seahawks win the NFC west and play Deeetroit in the NFC CG.
Jahan Dotson catches 100+ balls
Jets play in the AFC CG in Buffalo.

I'll offer up a glimmer of hope for Mac Jones. He no longer has Joe Judge in his ear on offense.
Daniel Jones had a similar decline from year 1 (under Pat Shurmer) to year 2 (under Judge)

Calvin Austin will show flashes of greatness early, and then he plays well enough in the second half of the season to make Diontae Johnson expendable in 2024.

Everyone has their own opinion on the value of Quarterback Rating. FWIW Mac had a higher rating that Josh Allen in 2021. He was more than 20 points higher than Trevor Lawrence in 2021. Last year Trevor was 10 points higher than Jones. Reversal in play callers. I don't think Mac is as talented as Trevor, but I do think there may be some anti Crimson Tide/ Patriot bias with regards to Jones.

I think it was his horrible year and demeanor. Add that to his reputation coming out of college as the weakest of that first-round class (which Zach Wilson proved to be), and you can see why people are down on him. But Matt Patricia is so atrocious that I don't see how you can possibly pass total judgment on the guy. I mean, Lawrence gets his free Urban Meyer pass (and a free pass for throwing -- what -- three or four picks against LAC before the Jags came back) and Jones probably deserves his free Patricia pass.

How can you be negative about his demeanor and at the same time say the reason he was upset was totally justified? Is he just supposed to accept that the entire offense put him up to fail?

I really was giving reasons why people were down on him, so I wasn't dinging him necessarily, but it's not a mutually exclusive proposition. For example, we can both dislike someone's treatment and their reaction to said treatment. We can lament the bullied child while being upset that he lashes out afterwards towards another innocent. Jones's constant whining, throwing of helmets, screaming at the sidelines, etc. wasn't a good look for him even though we sympathize with him.

Several players are coming off a disappointing year or two. Who is going to bounce back and play significantly better than they have been recently? My gut says:

Yes
Michael Gallup
Mac Jones
Hunter Renfrow (but not all the way to his 2021 peak)

No
Darren Waller
Courtland Sutton
Adam Thielen
Michael Thomas
Odell Beckham
Darnell Mooney
Deebo Samuel

I dunno, maybe partway but not to their career average
Russell Wilson
Calvin Ridley
Deshaun Watson
Robert Woods

Scrimmage yards per game in 2022 (or 2021-22 average) is the main stat I'd judge these by, except for the QBs where I'd go with an efficiency stat like ANY/A.

David Carr is going to post sick numbers in a packed offense with 3x more talent than he's ever seen. Guaranteed top 7 QB fantasy numbers.
Putting my life savings on the under here.
Been a Raider fan my whole life and I still make that mistake occasionally.

David Carr had a terrible career in the NFL but it was incredibly memorable.
I make the mistake, too. Just joking around.

As for David, he did have a terrible career, but to be fair was put into a no-win (literally and figuratively) situation from the get go. Not unlike Tim Couch.

Hunter Henry sets a career high in receiving yards

Mecole Hardman has more yards from scrimmage than Kadarius Toney

Jeff Wilson leads the Dolphins in rushing

3 quarterbacks each start multiple games for Tampa

Kyler Murray is a top 5 fantasy QB over the second half of the season

Kendre Miller is ranked as a top 15 dynasty back at the end of the season
0/6

With the Kadarius Toney & Kyler Murray ones I was at least kinda on to something (Toney bombed, Murray played & was competent), the rest were wildly off. Hunter Henry set a career low in receiving yards (excluding his missed season), Jeff Wilson was the one MIA back not to own, Mayfield was an every-week starter who led Tampa to the playoffs, and Kendre Miller did basically nothing all year and is ranked about where he was when I posted that.

I did much better on the No's than the Yeses. Maybe shoulda just said "No" for everybody.

I think the result was a "Yes" for Adam Thielen, a "Partway" for Deebo Samuel and maybe Russell Wilson (if you focus on QB efficiency stats rather than volume stats), and a "No" (or "further decline") for everyone else.

Like the title states... A fun one to revisit at season's end.

My gut "lock" - Damien Harris leads ALL rbs this season, in rushing TDs.

Go.

I nailed Jefferson falling out of the top 5 in one ballsy call thread... and this call right here was about as bad as it gets. brutal season for my guy

My gut tells me Kendre Miller is the best all-around RB in New Orleans and crushes it. After redshirting this year.

My gut tells me that Garrett Wilson is a top five PPG guy at WR. I think he's that good.

My gut tells me that Ezekiel Elliott is totally finished in the league whether he signs somewhere or not. There's no RB2 juice to be had there.

My gut also tells me DJ Chark has become a guy you sign for veteran depth and nothing more.

Gut went 1-3 for claims that could be said to have been finished this year.

Garrett Wilson was not a top five PPG at WR

Elliott was not totally finished in the league. In fact, he saved some teams in the playoffs with some outstanding and then respectable games.

Miller redshirted and looked the part last week going 13-73 with a touchdown. That's over 5 YPC. Not too shabby. We'll see if he is the best all-around RB in NO next year and if he crushes it.

Chark was indeed veteran depth and nothing more this year.

Arizona cardinals draft 1, 2 in 2024.

Two of the four teams playing in the conference championships would make their first SB. But both lose.

Kyle Pitts shows us why he was drafted so highly, top 3 TE

Levis starts by week 10
Got Levis
Lions, browns and Texans make the second gut call possible.
The others, not so good.

Gut tells me Hopkins doesn’t live up to his ADP and the titans go 9-7, missing WC.
Overly optimistic for the titans :bag:

MY gut tells me...

Calvin Ridley and Daniel Jones will be top five fantasy players at their respective positions.

Derek Carr will drive The Saints deep into the playoffs.

The Bills and Cowboys will underperform their preseason expectations,The Bills by a little,The Cowboys by a lot.

The Bengals and Forty-Niners will meet in The Super Bowl.

Aaron Rogers will be watching the playoffs from a mushroom farm.
I GOT ONE!

2024 top 3 RBs in fantasy drafts

1.1 Bijan
1.2 McCaffrey
1.3 Rhamondre

Oooffff.

What's funny is that I ended up avoiding Bijan out of usage fears, and Rhamondre out of NE sucking fears.

I learned I should listen to my guy but only after it's had some time to digest.

I don't think there could be a better call right down to picking the replacement coach. Bravo, elguapo, Bravo!
I dunno, Noid's post was pretty insanely accurate too.

Defense is a turnstile and offense has no confidence, whether it's the coaching, the players, or both. Maybe the "cupcakes" left on their schedule help them both get back on track, but it's just as likely they go from 10-1 controlling their own destiny for a 1-seed and the division to a 5 seed playing on the road in the WC round. That would be a pretty big fall and among the worst in team history. And if I'm in the NFL writer's room, I would punch up the script to include a devasting injury in W17 @ MetLife that happens only because we had to play the starters to still have a chance at the division because we also drop 1 of these next 3.

Wow. I missed that one. I think we have a tie.....in the Nostradamus Awards

ETA: This is not quite as impressive now that I see it was from December. I was so confused how I missed it and then figured out it wasn't from this thread. Still quite the prognostication but not quite as good as doing it before the season starts. I will give it 2nd place.

I wouldn't say nailed. He got hurt. He was like top 3 before and after.

buuuuuut, he wasn't a top 5 wr :)
I take dubs whichever way they come. The greasier, the better hehe
