Move to alaska, you'd get paid to live there.

Central Park

Hit a trade the you can easily learn and move up in. Find a decent restaurant. You can work there as a grunt to start but turnover is usually high and you can move up quickly if you want to learn and do your job well. Plus they might feed you.
ive actually thought of working in food prep.........i enjoy cooking i have no formal training though and all ads i see are for people with years of experience in the business
The only thing it takes is persistence. Show up and tell manager you will work for free today if they just give you a chance. They'll say no. Show up ready to work the next day anyway. Eventually they will give you a job.

Actually they'll probably think you're an insane person.

I believe Walden Pond still exists

Go to every single grocery store you can and ask if they have openings to stock the shelves at night. You can make decent money at grocery stores.
 This is definitely a good place to start. You'll probably start at a relatively low hourly wage but can work up to around $15/hour if you put in your time. Plus you'll get health insurance and will be able to get treatment for your social anxiety.

Man looks in the abyss, there's nothing staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character. And that is what keeps him out of the abyss.

I've had to endure a few of those moments in my life so far. They ain't fun!

Two things:

1. Where do you live?

2. Are you familiar with tensile structures?
i live in bronx nycand no im not familiar with tensile structures as any more than a laymen

my only real skill is artwork if anyone wants to see............i just dont think im good enough to make a living from it
Fair enough. Are you willing to travel? Can you drive a manlift? Lull? If so, I might be able to help.

And for what it's worth, I'm also broke in NYC.

As far as what's going on inside your mind, I can also point you in the right direction to places that'll help out here in the city.
i can learn anything...im a fast learnerand ive driven a lot of forklifts working in HVAC if that matters
and yeah im willing to travel.......i hate new york
A forklift foundation is good enough. My previous job was installing tensile/framed fabric structures. They're always needing people to jump in on jobs. It's 100% travel. Pays well. I'll see if they have any big projects going on because I'm itching to get back on the road as well.

On an extremely serious note, if you wanna take back control of your life, send me a PM and I'll get you started in the right direction.

The two of you hitting the road together, erecting tents, and getting bluemagic's life back in order would be the greatest thing to ever happen in the FFA and maybe the entire internet. Please make it happen. :headbang:

find someone who is willing to film this experience (reality TV show or documentary), and provide you with whatever you need to relocate, and you might have something. if this was a TV show, I think I would watch it. some dude from the Bronx who decides to uproot and move out to the middle of nowhere and live off the land, despite not really knowing how to do it? that's gold.

not sure what's funnier - that you actually might think this idea is possible, or that you think it would go over well with his "cripplying social anxiety."

Ask your landlord if you can work off your back rent. You said you know how to paint, work on HVAC systems, etc. Maybe you can see if they need a super.

Look for jobs outside your current area. You said your skills are not in high demand where you are. Try looking for jobs in another area of the country, preferably one where you already know some people. You're young, and don't have a lot tieing you down. This could be the opportunity to pick up and go somewhere that you've always needed.

He lives directly accross the street from his grandmother who lets him use the internet whenever he wants but he doesnt go there all the time cuz his aunt hates him (only cuz hes not religious?). He has a few friends (all with internet and/or laptops) one who apparently owns a tax office. He has a sister who knows someone who can get him a job but hes not hiring. His parents hate him because they were drug addicts. Somethings not adding up here.

NYC - not exactly ideal for those with social phobias and no money. How about moving to a cheaper less populated place for starters?
how can i move with lint in my pocket? and this computer and internet service belongs to my grandmother by the way guys
go back to school. get some skills and student loans to ride this economy out.

This is really good advice. I used to work temp jobs in college when I needed to pay tuition--some of them were really boring, but they all paid pretty well and you could usually start work the day after you signed up.
