My mock drafts - a self analysis. Some good/some bad. (1 Viewer)

I suppose I could be accused of "make enough predictions and some have to be right." But overall, I think I did pretty well.

I wrote three different mocks. I've included the what I believe that team's selection would be for each mock in bolded parenthesis. The actual pick is listed first.

1. Oakland - JaMarcus Russell, QB LSU (Quinn, Russell, Russell)

Not to difficult. The smokescreen wasn't too thick.

2. Detroit - Calvin Johnson, WR Georgia Tech (Anderson, Adams, Johnson)

Got it right the last try, although I did think they'd trade him away.

3. Cleveland- Joe Thomas, OT Wisconsin (Russell, Quinn, Quinn)

Got Quinn, but not at the third spot. Still was an obvious target, though.

4. Tampa Bay - Gaines Adams, DE Clemson (Johnson, Johnson, Adams)

Goti it right on the last try.

5. Arizona - Levi Brown, OT Penn State (Thomas, Thomas, Thomas)

Right position, wrong player.

6. Washington - LaRon Landry, S LSU (Adams, Adams, Branch)

Totally blew it. Should have believed the rumors about Landry. And about Branch falling. I really thought people would look at the game tape more than the post season performance. I think AZ got a steal with Branch.

7. Minnesota - Adrian Peterson, RB Oklahoma (Peterson, Meachem, Peterson)

Pretty much nailed it except for the mock involving trades.

8. Atlanta - Jamaal Anderson, DE Arkansas (Landry, Landry, Landry)

Missing the Washington pick hurt me here. I did write up a mock with Washington taking Landry and then Atlanta taking Anderson, but didn't post it. Oh well.

9. Miami - Ted Ginn Jr., WR Ohio State (Brown, Houston, Okoye)

Not too many people got this one right.

10. Houston - Omobi Okoye, DT Louisville (Branch, Okoye, Carriker)

Got the position right. Got it exactly right with the 2nd try.

11. San Francisco - Patrick Willis, LB Mississippi (Carriker, Anderson, Willis)

Got it right the third try.

12. Buffalo - Marshawn Lynch, RB California (Lynch, Peterson, Posluszny)

Should have stuck with my first prediction. But they DID trade up to get Poz in the 2nd.

13. St. Louis - Adam Carriker, DT/DE Nebraska (Okoye, Carriker, Anderson)

Got it right the second try.

14. NY Jets - Darelle Revis, CB Pittsburgh (Revis, Hall, Ross)

Got it right the first time. Got the position right.

15. Pittsburgh - Lawrence Timmons, LB Florida State (Kalil, Timmons, Brown)

Got it right the second try.

16. Green Bay - Justin Harrell, DT Tennessee (Olsen, Branch, Lynch)

Close with the Branch mock. I thought Harrell was a first rounder, but not that high.

17. Denver - Jarvis Moss, DE Florida (Chas. Johnson, Beason, Spencer)

Right position, wrong player.

18. Cincinnati - Leon Hall, CB Michigan (Hall, Revis, Revis)

Got it right the first try. Right position all along.

19. Tennessee - Michael Griffen, S Texas (Houston, Lynch, Hall)

I can't help it that they picked poorly. :lmao:

20. NY Giants - Aaron Ross, CB Texas (Timmons, Posluszny, Timmons)

Wrong. Obviously thought they'd go LB first.

21. Jacksonville - Reggie Nelson, S Florida (Ginn, Nelson, Ginn)

Got it right the 2nd try.

22. Cleveland - Brady Quinn, QB Notre Dame (Russell, Quinn, Quinn)

Yay!

23. Kansas City - Dwayne Bowe, WR LSU (Bowe, Brown, Blalock)

Got it right the first try. Later on, I really thought they'd go o-line with the retirements.

24. New England - Brandon Meriweather, S Miami (Posluszny, Griffin, Griffin)

Right position, wrong player. I wonder who they'd have taken if both Griffin and Meriweather were available.

25. Carolina - Jon Beason, LB Miami (Willis, Olsen, Olsen)

I was just wrong about this one. When they traded back, I still thought they'd target Olsen. Guess MLB is a bigger concern than I thought.

26. Dallas - Anthony Spencer, DE Purdue (Blalock, Ginn, Houston)

Wrong. Needed the pass rush worse than I thought, I guess.

27. New Orleans - Robert Meachem, WR Tennessee (Ross, Bowe, Bowe)

Right position wrong player.

28. San Francisco 49ers - Joe Staley, OT Central Michigan (N/A)

I did think someone would try to trade back up into the 1st to nab Staley.

29. Baltimore - Ben Grubbs, OG Auburn (Staley, Kalil, Kalil)

At least I thought they'd try to improve the o-line.

30. San Diego - Craig Davis, WR LSU (Nelson, Weddle, Weddle)

They DID trade up to get Weddle in the 2nd. The Davis pick is a head scratcher to me.

31. Chicago - Greg Olsen, TE Miami (FL) (Tyler, Blalock, Staley)

Didn't think Olsen would last this long, and even if he did, I didn't think the Bears would pull the trigger.

32. Indianapolis - Anthony Gonzalez, WR Ohio State (Harrell, Rice, Meachem)

Right position, wrong player.

So overall, not bad. I enjoyed writing them and I hope people enjoyed reading them. And I hope I came out of the mock drafting "season" with a shred of dignity. :wall:

Nothing personal but how could you go wrong? 3 mocks and you give yourself credit for any of the 3 and if you picked the right position.

Why not just post your final mock and the players you got right?

I admitted as much. I guess I give mock drafters (yes, including myself) more credit if they got the position right but not the player than most do. It's almost impossible to know how the teams have the guys at each position ranked. Maybe that's the wrong viewpoint. :banned:

My final mock would be the last player in the list in the parenthesis. And I wasn't just asking for opinions on my final mock. It seems people were interested in my stuff throughout the season and I wanted to see if it was worthwhile reading for everyone. If not, I won't bother as much and WILL just post a final mock next year.

Final Mock...

1 pt for player correctly listed as a 1st RD choice

2 pts for player correctly listed to right team

FINAL Mock Score... 30 out of a possible 64

Wonder what Gosselin's Final Mock grade was? Seriously... Haven't seen his final mock.

Heard on NFL Net on Sirius that Gil Brandt got something like 88 of the first 100 right and he was disappointed...he shoots for 90/100...

That's astounding. And it goes to show that guys with actual NFL contacts resoundingly beat a guy surfing the web at work and guessing.

Was thinking about you and your trade-crazy mock during the Top Ten. All those trades certainly make things more exciting for us, the fans, but as I said in the discussion thread for that mock, it's easy when all 32 GMs reside in your head. The real thing is never as wild and exciting as we build it up to be because most real GMs are much more conservative by nature.

BTW - I still think what you did with Detroit in that mock would have served the Lions much better than what Millen did in real life.

Hey, you did fine. You took a fair amount of heat and even ran into some mistaken identity along the way but you held to your convictions. Nothing wrong with that.

We had a small draft contest this weekend, as usual. A guy I have know for a LONG time still has some ties to several scouts. He hit 31 of 32 first round players and never had a player more than 1 slot from their final destination. He only missed Craig Davis. He had Quinn to the Chiefs. He had Spencer to the Cowboys with their first pick.

Wow. He had Harrell near the GB pick? The "mistaken identity" stuff was the highlight of the mock draft season.

Nice Job Andy I always enjoyed reading your mocks - they are both informative and funny.

I was so sure about Greg Olsen going to the panthers but not feel bad the TSN and ESPN experts had the same thing.

There are a lot of very smart football fans here. I know a few people that really follow the game outside of the FBG boards. On a personal level I do not know anyone that knows more about the sport than this guy. Add in that he still talks with a few scouts and players on a daily and or weekly basis and, well, it was not shocking to see him clean up Saturday.
