My oldest son is being deployed to the middle east. Tonight I witnessed the awkward interaction between our youngest son and him saying goodbye. As a parent of a soldier, it is one of the hardest, most proud moments you will ever experience. It was also one of the most difficult things I have ever witnessed. The two of them couldn't be any more different, but to see the raw, true emotion between them was something I didn't expect.
My son is leaving behind a 2 year old son and a 2 week old daughter. We are thankful he was able to be here for her birth and luckily we are an awesome support unit for his wife. They live next door and are super close with us. We will hold down things until he returns.
My wife posted a photo of his son wearing his army jacket and hat pointing out that is how the parents of a soldier see their child regardless of their age. His son is s spitting image of him. I can't lie, it broke me down.
Not sure what I was hoping to accomplish with this thread, just a way to share my emotions I guess... We've known about this for a while, but damn it is hitting home tonight.
