NBA BTTF III - Draft Over! War of attrition underway... (2 Viewers)

all of this whining about an auction, if you look up the league leaders for MVP and when they were drafted, it would seem as if this was a good year to draft outside of the top 5. no reason anybody couldn't have put together a top team drafting anywhere.

Aldridge went 18th, Pau went in the 3rd round, Lilliard in the 2nd....

I say either learn to draft better or learn to roll a better dice.

Just went and looked back. In the 3 years we've done this, you've picked #2, #6, and #3.

GFY (or roll for me next year)

Well no wonder he's made the playoffs all 3 years. I've drafted 22, 15, and 9. Much more impressive. I also just made those numbers up, but it's probably close.

why dont we just do the nba thing and use this year's standings towards next year's draft positions? complete with lottery and ping pong balls.

maybe have a FFA style podium and webcast? would love to see TRE slam his fist down ala Dave DeBushy!

Pau has been quite the steal for the Paranoid Androids.

This would be cool too.

So what you're saying is, I'm a fantastic drafter... :goodposting: :bowtie:

This would be incorrect. Look again.

Whoops, second year had the join order instead of the draft order in post 2, that's what I get for looking in mobile.

You can still roll for me next year.

So by my calculations, this years playoff teams came from these draft spots:

Eastern conference:

1 seed - 5th draft spot

2 seed - 21st

3 - 10

4 - 17

5 - 13

6th - 4

Western conf:

1 seed - 7

2 - 18

3 - 3

4 - 9

5 - 2

6 - 12

Avg draft spot of playoff teams = 9.17

Avg draft spot of top 2 seeds = 12.75

7/10 of teams in the top 10 made the playoffs. 5/14 for the rest.

I mean that's just the nature of the NBA, where one star player can make a bigger difference on a team than any other sport. No one's saying you can't draft a good team from a later spot, but in this type of format with the NBA it will always be incredibly advantageous to draft from a higher spot, just the nature of the beast. I think it would be fun to try out an auction to try to balance it out a little (and for the chaos), but I'll still be in if we do a regular draft again, it's fun either way.

The champ from year 1 drafted #6. The champ from year 2 drafted #2. We'll see who wins it this year.

Anthony Davis MVP; Russell Westbrook 6th Man of the Year.

Wish WIS had more awards for basketball (All-NBA teams, DPOY, All-D teams, etc.)

Seems odd that Westbrook is 6th man when he has 2nd most minutes on Timmy's team.

Paul and Pau Gasol finished 4th and 5th in MVP both on my team. Paul with 1.6 more assists a game than anyone else. That is crazy.

Can't wait for Wall to shut Paul down in the semis.

Actually just checked over at WIS to see who won. Was gonna say congrats but didn't feel like finding the thread to bump lol

It was several pages back
what round did you draft durant? nevermind. Trade?
Yeah, I traded Dieng and Marvin Williams for Durant and Ajinca. Rested Durant game 6 of the conference finals because he was playing too many minutes and forgot to turn him back on.

Jesus. Kicked my butt. My puu puu platter of big men got destroyed by Pau and Kanter.

My team did well offensively, but just had no answer for the big men.

Congrats.
