*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (6 Viewers)

People say if Melo wants to win, he would go to CHI, but stars don't want to go to CHI. It's time to accept that.
I'm not ready to go that far with Chicago. McGrady passing hurt. Missing LeBron and Wade in 2010 sucked, but we all saw why. I'm not that upset over missing on Melo. We couldn't even offer a max 4 year contract.

A couple more times and I might be on board with that theory.
I don't know why stars wouldn't love Chicago. Seems like a great city from a tourist perspective.
Chicago Fans like to cite "Jordan's shadow" which probably plays a part... However, we're getting to the point of being so removed from Jordan, that matters less and less every year.

Our weather sucks. Management isn't always the best... But I think the loyalty shown to Rose lately might brighten that perspective.

Its a great city, with a top 3 coach and hopefully brighter things in the near future.
The bolded may be as big an issue as anything. Reinsdorf's reputation as a cheap ### really hurts.

Even if it were announced right now that Lebron was headed to Cleveland, they should NOT be the favorite. I realize that Kevin Garnett won a championship in his first year at Boston, but it rarely happens. Usually teammates need a season to gel together.
But this the the Eastern conference. Labron and 4 warm bodies make the finals.

Everyone maneuvering like James is going to Cleveland and Bosh to Houston are in the bag. Going to be kind of funny if they stay in Miami.
What's funny is grown men acting as if this stuff is about on-par with oxygen, food and water related to living.

That said, here's to hoping LeBron goes back to CLE, then CLE pays through the nose to add Love to LeBron and Irving. :skol: But if the Wolves end up dealing Love for a box of tube socks and a sweet Kevin Garnett poster from back in the day? The sun will still rise in the Eastern sky tomorrow. It's just pro sports. About one of the most worthless, over-hyped, over-paid careers one can have on the planet. Guys could be building houses, or curing cancer, or working to solve hunger/poverty. But instead? They can average 10/5/3 and sign a few autographs for folks who aren't grown-up enough to stop the hero worship. And that's worth millions of dollars...
I think sports can unite a town, a city, a country, take people away from their troubles for a moment. I think it's pretty damn important.
So can terrorism, or a natural disaster, or a large community improvement/public works project. One that doesn't require taxpayers to foot the bill for hundreds of millions just to keep said organization from peddling their wares to the next MSA down the road.
What, exactly, is your point in being in this thread?

GTFO of here with this BS. Go ruin some other thread with your drivel. Comparing sports to terrorism and natural disasters? Pathetic.

To be a doooooooosh as usual.

Woj reporting Lebron joining the Peace Corps out of guilt, with Melo joining City Council to finally get those potholes fixed.

Thomas is on the Lakers radar after the big dominoes fall, Thomas is a life long Laker fan - the hope is that he may accept less.
At $6m the Kings might decide to match. Think they will have to go higher (and why not, have to spend it somewhere).
Catch... You've mentioned the Kings a few times... What are they thinking?!? I love McLemore, Staukus, Cousins... That team has and has had talent... Are they missing a coach? To the rest of us, they just feel like a minor league farm system these days...
The last two kids Bruce has sent us from Kansas have sucked (Thomas Robinson and McLemore). They continue to make some questionable roster moves, but Malone is a good coach and Cousins is a legit franchise player. I think they'll figure it out in a couple of years.

I want to disagree with this... but really feel its 50/50... Indy, Chicago, Toronto and Wash "should" improve. LeBron going to a new team "should" take a year to gel.

I don't think the current Cavs Roster with LeBron wins the East....

None of those things unite people in a positive way like sports does. Read the book Invictus, or see the movie, to see how people are transformed.

I don't begrudge these athletes a single cent. They earn it. They entertain us and make us feel better about ourselves. They serve as important a purpose as any of the items you named.

Is McLemeore that bad? He seemed like an up and coming SG at a position that is hurting for production. I mean he isn't off the pace from Beal or Waiters who were higher picks recently....

He definitely played bad, pretty similar to Austin Rivers two years ago.

He didn't do anything at an NBA average level last year. He's very young, and super athletic with decent size and seems to be a hard worker, so it's way too early to write him off. But he needs to become a knock down three point shooter and/or learn how to handle the ball or he's going to bounce around the league at the end of rosters for a long time.

Kings front office impossible to get behind. They spent year after year after year looking for a PG, trying SGs at PG. They finally find one -- won't play him after he's unquestionably the best they have and produces everytime he's out there. And now won't pay him. They believe every draft pick they make the 19 year old should be a star Year 1, lose patience and deal for nothing.

I just find it quite humorous this team has been on a never ending cycle to find a PG. They believe IT2 is best as a 6th man (which if they already had a PG worth a damn, sure).....then go sign Collison who has fallen on his face each time as an everyday starting PG. Great logic guys  There's a reason you're continuously horrible.

The too early to write off part seems spot on. I think this kid has serious talent and will be a great player one day. I feel like the Kings problem is that they are always developing talent. In the NBA, you need vet leadership more than most sports.

Clippers get Jordan Farmar, a step down from Darren Collison. But they also get Spencer Hawes, a big step up in the back-up big department.

Yikes... Rivers needs to go for NO to afford Asik... At least at 2mil a year, its worth a swing to rebuilding teams... But Rivers stat line is brutal.

I agree. That's part of the reason I'm not a big fan of blowing up rosters and tanking. A few vets that can maintain a winning organizational culture has a significant value that is hard to quantify and thus is often ignored IMO.

Then Spencer Hawes challenges Blake Griffin to a no holds barred steel cage match for the number #32 ending all championship aspirations.

Sounded like SAC wanted that... Some pre-draft rumors had The Bulls moving Taj and Snell or picks for #8. Who knows how true that was... But bottom line is that SAC has assets to move for starting caliber players.

Getting Gay off the books next season will be a huge plus...

I do hate the Collision from Thomas downgrade though. I think the difference is roughly a mil a year and its not worth it.

I want to disagree with this... but really feel its 50/50... Indy, Chicago, Toronto and Wash "should" improve. LeBron going to a new team "should" take a year to gel.

I don't think the current Cavs Roster with LeBron wins the East....
I just think LaBron is that good. 80+ games is a long time to gel. /the East is really bad.

BUT... you're putting a lot of stock into Kyrie who isn't really at all star level. Wiggins is a rookie. Waiters is a one way player...

Its going to take a long time to figure out the Cavs... add a first year head coach into the mix... FIRST season ever in the NBA as well... LeBron or not, this team isn't winning the East.

If Lebron does choose Cleveland he should pull a page from MJ's playbook.

A simple tweet: "I'm coming home."

Then just go off the radar for a bit with no interviews/fanfare.

Why should Indy improve? I'm a Pacers fan, but its an old core that could easily be losing it's youngest member and they're trying to duct tape holes right and left. They are trying to find a way to dump Hibbert on someone and if you look at what's left, they are 1 all-star, MAYBE Lance, and some guys past their prime. Hard to imagine them improving from a 1 seed and ECF appearance.

Alright Utah, go ahead and do this, so CHA can go throw money at Lance.

That was some pretty nice work by Utah. Refusing to pay a cent over $50 mill. for Hayward a couple of months ago, then letting him go to the market with the intent to match any offer.

The whole Dan Gilbert angle is so silly and has nothing to do with where he will play.
Now your being a blind Cav's homer. It is a factor when your previous boss calls you a quitter and a coward.

Your really being blind.

Lebron ain't going home. He is going to work.

He works in Miami.

Cliff, what do you make of Michael Grange's tweet tonight? ("Can't happen ..."). Toronto Twitter speculation has of course gone immediately to Vince Carter...
#Raptors fans, join us for a BIG announcement at @RealSports Bar & Grill on Thursday at 10 AM ET with @Klow7 & Masai Ujiri! #RTZ #WeTheNorth

The response to that? Not really sure. I'd be all for Carter coming back on a 1 or 2 year deal and I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility. . He'd essentially replace Salmons and well, anyone is a big upgrade there. Some 3 point shooting and a little more size and strength on the wing compared to Ross/Derozan.

Bosh isn't happening though he'd fit in pretty nice. Hell, he'd probably make them the East favourite regardless of whether LeBron is on the Heat or Cavs. Lowry/DD/Ross/Bosh/JV is a pretty damn nice starting lineup. It would be tough to swing a deal to get him unless Miami is just looking for a few picks in return. Toronto would have to send out Fields and Hayes who are completely useless and maybe even Amir plus a few future 1sts.

If they lose Lance, they're taking a big hit. Like dropping down to 6-7 seed.

“I don’t have any hard feelings. He said what he said and I’ve moved on,” said James

“I don’t hold grudges,” he said. “I hold them a little bit, but I don’t hold them that long. He said what he said out of anger and he would probably want to take that back. But I made a mistake, too, and there are some things I would want to take back as well."

“Dan is not the coach,” he said. “I can play for any coach. We’ll see what happens.”

Even Wade could imagine his friend reuniting with the Cavs — some day.

“Anything is possible,” Wade said. “Hopefully, I’m retired.”

And these were quotes from 2-1/2 years ago.

Cleveland will certainly be in the mix. there's definitely a solid shot they make the finals. A lot of young players that could improve quickly when you add the best player in the league into the mix.
