*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (3 Viewers)

Bulls bench really stunk it up early in the second quarter. Good game so far. Bulls have played so many bad teams recently that it's refreshing to finally watch them play a good one. And James Johnson gets some revenge for being dumped by the Bulls.

He's awesome as long as he never shoots the ball.

What a ####ing hero this guy is. Can he commish everything?
I heard "God Bless America" playing in my head when I read this.

Maybe it goes without saying, but it's near-impossible to fix an NBA game. You need a lot of money to bribe rich athletes, and then you need to get down even more money to make it worth your while (not to mention having to pay runners to do this), and there's just no way to do that without raising a host of red flags. Those dopes couldn't even do it a century ago when baseball players made peanuts, word had gotten out about a possible fix before the Series even started.

Im not a big college bball guy so maybe I just don't know but how many of the 76ers would even be in the league if not for, well, the 76ers? So many guys Ive never heard of and Im wondering if its just me and these guys would at the very least be on the end of an NBA bench in a suit or if its just complete nobodies?

Players Ive never heard of before their stops in Philly include Brandon Davies, Drew Gordon, Jerami Grant, JaKarr Sampson, Henry Sims, Hollis Thompson and Malcolm Thomas. Am I alone here?

I am a big college bball guy but not so much NBA so take that for what it's worth, but Grant and maybe Davies are the guys who I'd think could hook on with most teams in some role. I do know Sims has looked ok as an NBAer, but the rest are replacement level if that's a thing in the NBA.

Isn't drew Aaron's older brother? Played at UCLA and New Mexico IIRC

As much as it pains me to say it, Kobe probably had the better career (it's probably not even close) but it's really not Duncan's fault.
How is it not close?

-Both have 5 rings.

-Duncan has more regular season MVPs.

-Duncan has more Finals MVPs.

It's obviously not easy to compare them directly, because one is a shooting guard, while the other is a power forward - Duncan is obviously a much better rebounder, but Bryant is a more prolific scorer, although Duncan is a far more efficient scorer (see: their field goal percentages) - but all in all, neither has had a significantly better career than the other, although I think the argument for Duncan is stronger.
On all time lists, Duncan is clearly ahead of Kobe - better player, higher peak, and better leader, although worse at missing shots. Kobe versus Garnett is a more worthwhile discussion.

Yup. "Better career " is a subjective thing that brings in all kinds of weird stuff. Did Manu Ginobli have a better career than Charles Barkley? Depends what you consider a better career.

"Better basketball player," on the other hand, isn't close.

at least things will get easier as the Sixers go into Houston on a back-to-back and then head into San Antonio.

The NBA should really just let the Sixers forfeit all the games on the Texas trip, save some dignity.

Monday vs. the Spurs should be interesting. Pop will probably rest everyone right? Set a record for the most number of unidentifiable players ever in an NBA game?

Easily solved by each team having a roster slot that doesn't count against the cap and has no max but, to save the owners from themselves, the contract is non-guaranteed.
Did you make this up? I don't see any negatives to this.
I heard Mark Cuban suggest this. I don't think players would/should sign off on the non-guarantee contracts. The owners win there.
I'd say only the 'franchise' guy is non-guaranteed. Players under the regular cap would be guaranteed. The top guys want to be paid their true value which is understandable. But that should go both ways. If they stop being that valuable, they shouldn't be paid like it (see: Johnson, Joe).

Cliff,

Sixers fans can put up with tanking, getting blown out, stashing guys in Europe and sitting out high draft choices for entire seasons but if you think we're going to watch Kobe jack up 40 shots a night you are mistaken. We may not have pride, but we have our limits.

YIC,

Tom

"I'm extremely jealous of that," Bryant said this week after his team's loss in New Orleans. "I don't know if I can express to you how jealous I am of the fact that Tim, Tony [Parker], Manu [Ginobili] and Pop [spurs coach Gregg Popovich] have all been together for all those years. Like, I can't even ... I can't express to you how jealous I am of that. Not all this up-and-down stuff."
:lmao: :lmao:
