*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (4 Viewers)

Isaiah Thomas + Suns' owned Lakers pick for Brandon Knight (and having to pay a new contract) does seem a bit extreme (if that's what happens). That Laker pick is only Top 3 protected next year.

I really wonder how Bledsoe and Knight will fit personally.
As I understood it from the Suns' perspective, it's:Thomas

Ennis

Plumlee

Lakers pick

for

Marcus Thornton

Brandon Knight

Cavs 2016 pick

So, a trade down in the first, essentially.

Sounds like there are potentially a lot more moving pieces in the Heat deal, though, too.
A trade WAY down in the first.

I don't think Dragic stays in Miami, and I don't think it puts them in contention in the East. They aren't beating the Hawks, Cavs or Bulls

It would seem that way. It's hard to be definitive about it when we only know 4 players likely to be on their roster next year.

So winners and losers?

I think Phoenix and OKC, and the Bucks won.
Short term: Miami! Dragic feeding Wade, Bosh, Whiteside. I say they are a contender in the weak East.
No chance. They might win a playoff round if they find their way to the 7 seed and the Raptors hold off the Cavs for the 2 seed and they stay healthy and Whiteside doesn't regress badly and the Raptor guards are cold during the series. But that's a lot of ifs, and that's just to get out of the first round. Atlanta would shred them. Think of what San Antonio did to Miami last season because their style was so well-suited to score on the Heat. This Atlanta team plays exactly like that, and whatever talent differential there might be between 2014 SAS and 2015 ATL is more than neutralized by the one between LeBron James and Goran Dragic.

Suns got a total of 3 first round picks in return as I understand it, 2 from Miami and 1 from Cleveland and they gave up their Laker pick.

Hinkie is Beane-esque.
Except Beane's teams occasionally make the playoffs
His plan, bad or good, is obviously a long-term one. Maybe the Cubs are a better baseball comp? But judging it now seems silly.
He supposedly asked for a nine-year contract when he was hired. While overall I trust in him, I do think that there is an actual possibility that he is doing all of this in an effort to absolve himself of responsibility for as long as humanly possible and keep his job without having any need to win.

That seems like lunacy. Eventually management is going to need him to get Philly competitive.

Who plays the point in Philly coming out of the break? Doesn't look like they gave that Frazier guy another 10-day. Do they even have a PG rostered?

Dragic should thrive when Wade's out, but he'll run into the same thing he was #####ing about in Phoenix when Wade's healthy.

Not a fan of the Suns give the Lakers pick for Brandon Knight & big contract. Gotta think Suns believe Lakers will be big players in free agency this offseason. Still risky given how good the West is.
