*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (3 Viewers)

I just wanted to give a little love to my new look Denver Nuggets. They are killing the Grizz, 61-42 at halftime and Ty Lawson has 12 pts (5-8 shooting) 4 ast 3 reb 3 stl. They got 14 team assists through the first half, ball movement is coming a little easier tonight than most.
Pretty important game too. Lawson is sick and JR Smith is going to score a lot. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they hold on to a playoff spot.

This game is big, the winner is going to get the chance to lose 4 straight to the Spurs. I'm hoping the Nuggets can find a way to keep Lawson playing 35+ mpg, when he is assertive he looks like an all star, and he seems to be much more assertive as a starter.

I can live with a pick or 2 for Gallo - but not Devin and picks for Felton...whats the point in that? Also read that Clips dangling Minny pick protected in 2011 and unprotected in 2012 which if true would be tough to beat for Gallo.Kev - you are correct - this new group has sucked out loud - worse they are taking a page out of Rex Ryan (title in a few years statements) with having absolutely nothing to back it up....take a lookwhiffed on their #1 HC - who went to Chicago - settled for AJ who was given a ton of power without deseving it IMOwhiffed on Lebron - they said they thought they were close - Lebron talks of contracting the Nets a few months later - LOLwhiffed on the other FAs while waiting for LeBron - finally showed interest in Boozer but couldnt get him an offer in timepanicked after coming out with nothing and gave awful deals to Outlaw and PetroLose Lottery despite one of worst records in NBA history - some luck as Favors falls to them - they respond by caling the kid a "trade asset"Traded for Murphy - big body, double double guy who when he is finally healthy and ready to play is old to stay home after a few games of getting scattered minutes - no value at all nowProceed to get deeply involved in talks with Denver for the ENTIRE season when its clear the guy isnt thrilled about coming and only considered them a back up plan at best.In process alienated Haris, Favors and teased fansOwner goes on TV and says who cares we made Knicks give up moreOwner and Jay-Z meets with Melo who is compltely underwhelmedIn complete free fall panic - considering nderwhelming dealstrying to start selling tix and boxes in brooklyn with a boring lousy team with no identity - good luck with thatThat should about cover the past few months!
Tough time to be a Nets fan. When Proky came on the scene with Jay-Z they started selling the :blueprint: which to this point has been nothing more than talk. Nets fan coming off a horribly bad season welcomed the boastful owner and suddenly their despondent feelings were replaced with hope. I really thought that if the Nets did not get Melo they would be in for a long tailspin. In todays NBA you need a star to recruit other stars. Melo would probably not have signed an extension with the Knicks if Amare was not already on the team and the Knicks had a record lower than .500. If the Nets could have gotten Melo they had the potential to get a CP3 or Deron Williams. Now they will have to build the old fashion way through the draft which could take a long time especially if they miss on a top pick or Favors does mature as expected. For the record I blame Avery Johnson and the losing culture for the regression of Brook Lopez. It is tough for players to stay motivated grab rebounds and play defense when they are losing each night the tendency is to just shoot and put up empty offensive stats. The only advice I can give is try to look to the future move to Brooklyn; when Zeke was running the Knicks I could live with the losses because I knew that every loss and bad player acquisition pushed him one step closer to termination. Hang in there Kidd enduring the losing seasons makes the wins so much sweeter.
Thanks - I actually dont mind losing Melo - the guy didnt want to come to the Nets - I am ok with building through the draft - but these awful rumored deals I'm hearing about (Harris for Butler; Harris for A Miller; Murphy for a bag of balls) are a direct indictment of AJ and that is unacceptable. How does Proky sleep at night......probably on a mountain of cash with a naked super model....the guy is not losing a wink of sleep over this!

Yeah, this Harris stuff is bull####. I would be up in arms about that if I were a Nets fan. I could understand if they were trading him for comparable pieces, but they are looking to get dog poo in return for him.

The difference between eighth and fifth is gonna be pretty small. Getting Lawson a ton of time playing time has to be one of the top priorities the rest of the way. Do you want them to make the playoffs?

Absolutely, the draft pick won't be much different and I think it'll be good for team moral to make a little playoff run. The local broadcast of the game had Josh Kronke and Masi Ujiri on for about half a quarter each and it really sounds like the Nuggets are keeping all the Knicks that were acquired (plus Koufos from Min), so I think this team is the favorite to get the 8th seed.I'm a little worried about that though, because the Nuggets have a lot of players that are worthy of 25+ minutes a game (Lawson, Felton, Afflalo, JR, Gallo, Harrington, Martin, Nene) plus a few guys who deserve a little time (Mozgov and Anderson). There are going to be two or three upset players with a lack of playing time.Nuggets just introduced the new players (minus Koufos) and the whole crowd gave them a standing ovation. Mozgov can't hardly speak english, hes being interview and its hilarious. I'm excited.

Sounds like the Kings are trading Landry to the Hornets for Thornton and Anderson. I really like this trade for both teams.

Landry is a great piece to have come off the bench on a good team. I like the add for NO. He can definitely feast on most team's 3rd/4th/5th big men, though he is overmatched as a starter.

Just saw on Sportscenter Ujiri press conference.

Does anyone in Denver buy that guys BS thing about Billups? He said the deal took so long because Denver was trying to get deal done without Billups being included!

What a damn liar, it would have taken two seconds for the Knicks to tell him, keep Billups we keep Felton lets work on trade.

Not so sure about that.

Why did the Raptors trade their (Miami Heat's) 1st round pick to the Bulls for James Johnson? Is he worth it?
James Johnson still has potential. His game would have benefited by another year in college. He showed flashes but was mistake-prone and never shot particularly well. Certainly he has NBA athleticism and is a nice guy and a good teammate. If he gets minutes and Toronto is patient, it's possible he can turn out to be a decent player.
He'll get plenty of run in Toronto. With Kleiza done for the year, there isn't really a true SF on the roster. It looks like it will be Weems and Johnson splitting the minutes.

Nets are on brink of getting Deron Williams in 3-team deal that will send Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and picks to Utah, sources tell Y
Derrick Favors has been pulled out of Nets practice, and told he's being traded to a Western Conference team, source tells Yahoo! Sports.
Favors will go to Jazz with Harris, two first-round picks. Nets wlll send Troy Murphy to Golden State, and Warriors send Gadzuric to Nets.

:lol:Good thing for the Nyets that Melo picked NY. Far, far better deal.

Wow, gotta love the NBA.

A blockbuster that totally came out of leftfield.

I can't even process it.

Millsap is their PF, and neither him or Favors is big enough for Center.

I'm not in love with DW like everyone else is, after seeing him vs the Lakers in the playoffs the last three years but he's still a superstar, good for them.

Nets were pretty intent on getting rid of Favors it seems.
Though he's still very young, he hasn't shown even flashes of franchise player upside thus far. I think it makes some sense to deal him now for a star, while the perception around the league (and with fans) is that he can still become that type of guy.

Wow - just when I think I'm out.....

this was out of nowhere - Proky gets his star....still no word on which picks but sounds like 2

Harris was about to be dumped for nothing so the deal is looking like Favors and 2 #1s - I hope they have an extension or its risky.

This reminds me a lot of the kidd deal as his pr took a hit before the deal as well - im sure they got this done based on the sloan incident....still processing but on its face it seems like a good deal but still a lot to pay.

Shoutout to Duncan, Dirk and Nash for taking their Kobe beatings like a man instead of running off to the other conference.
lolz - Duncan
yea that was particularly dumb even for him. Doesn't Duncan have 4 rings? :lmao:
4 rings and 1-4 vs Kobe in the playoffs
 they played one on one?
No Duncan was usually flanked by a couple HOFers.

picks to utah are said to be Nets 2011 1st rder and GS 2012 - D Will cant sign extension until July so risky but new CBA in place would make it cheaper and possible franchise tag.

Riskier than Melo without the extension but if it was this or flat out dumping Harris I'll take this any day - it bridges them to Brooklyn where it will be easier o sign FAs.

Lineup looking like

PG - D Will, Farmar

SG - Morrow, Sasha

SF - D James, Outlaw

PF - Hump, B Wright

C - Lopez, Petro

Not enough to be a top team in East but certainly a playoff team and relevant.

Love the trade for them, but lets not get carried away here. Boston, Miami, Chi, Hawks, Orlando, Knicks are all better. Philly probably is especially with the way they've been playing and Indiana and Charlotte are on the same level.

But they should have cap space next year and suddenly look like a much more attractive destination.

I dont think its unfair to say that with D Will the NEts should be a playoff team in the East...you listed 9 teams so they would have to leapfrog one. But the real point is they are relevant again...I saw J Kidd take an awful team and make everyone better around him to turn a mediocre team into a good one. Plus if Dwill extends then he can recruit another big player. Its a great rebound after losing out on Melo. Word is also leaking that they are not done and are trying to add a SF before the deadline.....they do that and I would be really impressed. Not sure what they could deal now.

Not unless you are projecting big things for Andrew Bynum or Robert Horry.

I wonder if they can make a play for OJ Mayo. He would be a great get for them, IMO.

The only reason Tony Parker, and to lesser extent Manu Ginobli are mentioned as HOF players is because of their nationality.

Sounds like Gerald Wallace can be had for a 1st round pick and expiring contracts.

Yeah, not so sure I like those rumors of the Cavs using part of the trade exception on him. He has a big player option after next season that he'll likely use. I don't think a new CBA can take stuff like that away.

That's all well and good (and I still love the trade for them), but D-will can't sign an extension before the new CBA and they won't make the playoffs no matter what they do this year with 28 games left. So they're basically hoping they will be able to sign/trade for SG/SF help between now and the beginning of the season after the potential lockout and that D-Will will like that help. That's a lot of ifs.

Fantastic trade for the Nets.

They got their superstar and all it costs them is a player that plays the same position and 3 prospects.

Also for those WTF about Jazz, it's pretty simple.

They wanted to avoid the whole LBJ and Melo type drama for another season. Let someone else worry about that.

I would say O'Neal, Malone and Payton are HOF'ers. Played with one or all of them in 01, 02 & 04. Duncan played with Robinson 01 & 02. Ginobli and Gasol both have an international angle but are not worth being in the conversation and cancell each other out.
