*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (6 Viewers)

Lebron just seemed out of it in a daze. He's played well when angry in the past, but these few games he wasn't right. Maybe those rumors are true and the guy just isn't anywhere near the assassin Jordan was. He needs to realize between the lines the outside world doesn't exist.
It was bizzare. In the Celtics and Bulls series he was nothing short of dominant. I think the Mav's played a brilliant zone that really took Lebron out of his game.Lebron must look himself in the mirror and realize a few things.1) He has absolutly no mid range game. He must work hard this off-season as Dwayne Wade did after his rookie year to develop a consistent mid range jump shot. Lebron is either a 3 pointer or at the basket. He has nothing from 15-18 feet out and he must develop this to become a complete player. Dallas did a brilliant job in taking away the paint for the most part and regulate Lebron to beyond the arc a lot.2) Post game. When Dallas is able to stick a Jason Terry, Jason Kidd and even Berera at times on Lebron he must be able to dominate them in the block. Lebron has not one true post move or shot. He must work extremly hard to get a decent post game. If he does he will be unstopable. Great elite players truly understand working on their weakeness to come back and be even better. Jordan did it, Magic did it. Wade did it. Now at 26 years old Lebron must face reality and do everything he can to become even better. He did look lost, frustrated and just down right confused. Again the short comings in his game were on display in the Finals. When you can't hit medium ranged jumpers against a team like Dallas your in big trouble.Last night I was wondering out loud with my wife ( who is also a huge NBA/Heat junkie) why they did not get Bosh the ball a lot more. He was on fire last night and I felt was the Heat's best player on the floor last night. I am sure Chris was very frustrated.
A couple summers/training camps ago when with the Cavs it was widely reported that James worked the entire summer on developing his post game where he should dominate from. I'm not sure what he exactly did that summer as I don't roll with his posse, but I'm quite positive this was either a lie out of his camp as they sipped margaritas or he is not very good at developing his game...because there was very little evidence of this improvement then, or now. He took his God given talents to South Beach and I'm afraid that's what you are stuck with. While that may be enough to win a title, and apparently just one would satisfy you although not live up to the their goals, I wouldn't get too wrapped up in LeBoob's development. Clearly we need to get back to our ####ty lives while he lives the high life in South Beach.

Despite the fact that my Lakers didn't perform well, I have to say this was just a great NBA season, perhaps the best ever I can remember.

manning stopped choking, arod stopped choking, eventually james will stop choking.
That's one way to look at it.Another, more reasonable way to look at it is that they were the same player the whole time, and winning a title requires a lot of luck and help in addition to being awesome. Also, if you're eliminated at any step along the way the loss is always freshest in fans' minds and they forget about all the playoff wins and good performances that preceded it. James is a great example of that this year. Where was this insight about him being a choker during the Celtics and Bulls? Was that a different person wearing a LeBron disguise?Manning's postseason stats are virtually identical to postseason legend Tom Brady's. A-Rod had at least two playoff runs- 2000 and 2004- when he was amazing prior to his third impressive run that got him a championship in 2009. And James' postseason numbers are more impressive than any active player in the NBA.
i guess i shouldve put the choking in quotation marks cuz that was exactly my point

Again congrads to the Mav's. A well earned title. They beat the best to become the best.
Not really. The Heat weren't defending champions and several other teams had better regular season records. They beat a very good team, but I don't know how you can call the Heat "best" in any way.
The Mavs swept the Lakers, so his statement is correct.
Go back to page 402....I clarified my statement.

Colin Cowherd says LeBron was afraid last night, especially in the 4th quarter. He didn't want the ball.Is that what you guys saw?
Every time he got the ball he passed it as fast as possible to Chalmers. If you watched Carslile gave a huge gap to Chalmers in the half court as LeBron treated the ball like a bag of AIDS.

He certainly wasn't taking it strong to the hole. Instead of going hard when he was driving, he would ALWAYS dump it off. Once was even to Juwan Howard for Christ's sake.

LeBron looked a little timid, but he definitely wasn't terrible last night in the 4th or overall. The entire team just didn't look sharp. Their two biggest problems were teamwide ones- their defense was mediocre and they turned the ball over a lot. Also, Colin Cowherd is the worst, especially when it comes to the NBA. If he is ever right about something, it's purely dumb luck. Being wrong about things and then moving on without acknowledging his wrongness is his shtick. If he says something you can usually just assume the opposite is true.

Congrats to Mavs backers! redemption for 2006. Great to see Nowitzki and Kidd get their rings. I watched more NBA playoffs this year than any other year. Lots of fun to watch and I wasn't even gambling on it.

Great to see Dirk get a ring, Kidd is kind of a POS though. Actually not kind of, he is a POS.

So Dallas won because their offense was fantastic and moved the ball with quick crisp passes but LeBron gets ripped for passing?
Yep pretty much.In all seriousness, the Mavs moved the ball well and took the open shot. Also, a lot of the Mavs movement was initiated by Barea/Kidd penetrating or Dirk getting doubled. The player makers (Kidd/Barea/Dirk) created plays and the shot makers (Dirk/Terry) took their wide open shots for the Mavs. So you can say that the Mavs passed the ball with aggressiveness. On the other hand, there were several times during the game where LBJ would not create a play or take an open shot. He would just hover around the 3 point line and instantaneously pass the ball. Yes he may have made the correct pass, but his movements were in response ot the Mavs' defense instead of trying to dictate to the Mavs defense like the Mavs offense did to the Heat.

How does Bibby feel? Paid 6 Million dollars for courtside seats last night.
Uh, not according to this:http://hoopshype.com/salaries/miami.htmBut dang Miami is going to be able to remake their bench next year. Gotta at least give them credit for that.
He was traded from the Hawks to Wizards who bought him out for something like 5.5 million, that is why his salary with the Heat is so low.

So? It's a stupid comment to say he was paid 6 million dollars for courtside seats LAST NIGHT. Dude contributed during his time there. And the Heat only paid him 450k for his ENTIRE time in Miami. Lastly, he would have made the 6 million whether he ever played for the Heat or not.

He hasn't been to my house so I wouldn't know.
Spousal abuse is OK as long as it's not your spouse?

I see nowhere that he got the difference between 450k and 6MM. Please point it out. Thanks in advance.

I think you're still not getting it.Hint- think active voice verb, not passive.

So how can we spin this series to help diminish Kobe's legacy?
I think it would go something like this..."Kobe was swept by the 2011 NBA Champions. Kobe's legacy is tainted because this just proves the competition wasn't all that great when he went to the Finals 3 times in a row. Once the talent got better, he was unable to compete."

I'd rather you just explain it to me. TIA.

Bibby paid $6 million. Not "was paid." He left his deal on the table after the Hawks traded him to the Wizards for Heinrich so he could leave a rebuilding team and take a shot at a ring. The Wizards obviously happily agreed to terminate the contract.

Miami bought his contract out for this year. He got a 5.5MM payout plus 450k salary and tore up his contract for next year at 6.2MM for the shot at a title. He did this knowing full well he probably wouldn't see anywhere close to 6.2MM in 2011-2012. He sat his ### on the bench while Eddie House played big minutes. I'm sure that's not exactly what he had in mind. And there is already 65MM on the books for Miami next year. That is not a great spot to be with a hard cap if they don't rewrite anything but years on current deals.

And. So explain to me again how he paid 6 million for a spot on the bench last night? Do you think he's actually sitting around today regretting his decision? Not to mention the expiring CBA and/or new one could have made that 6 million irrelevant.

The last 10 years Kobe Bryant has been on a title contender the LA Lakers have 5 rings, in the other 5 years they have been eliminated by the team who won the title.
:excited:

This was easily the best NBA Finals in years. Three of the six games came down to the very last possession (where a shot could have tied or won it), and every game was very watchable and compelling until the very end.

He left guaranteed money on the table. I'm not sure why you're putting up such a fight on this. A year from now he'll be several million dollars poorer for having made this decision; one which resulted in him mostly watching the Heat play from the bench this postseason. Maybe he regrets it, maybe he doesn't. I don't pretend to know the man. But that doesn't change the fact that, as culdeus said, he basically spent $6 million for courtside seats. Although he did score some nice Heat gear too, I guess. A bunch of game-worn jerseys and whatnot.

Howard: I want to stay, but I'm still becoming a free agent

TREVISO, Italy -- Dwight Howard reaffirmed his desire to stay with the Magic, but told NBA.com on Monday that he will definitely become a free agent rather than sign an extension in the next year and also left open the possibility he would reconsider his future in Orlando if the team does not win the title next season.

Guaranteed money? So the players get paid next year if there is a lockout?
