From a Raptors beat writer on who they may take at 13:
I’ve got Ekpe Udoh, Cole Aldrich, Paul George and Avery Bradley on it with Eric Bledsoe and Patrick Patterson as longer shots.
I don't know much about these guys other than Cole Aldrich being a big useless white dude. Any of them have potential?
Udoh played for Baylor after transferring out of Michigan. Outstanding shot blocker. He doesn't just try to swat the ball into the stands, either; he tries to block the shot back over the shooter into open space so the guards can get after it and get possession, if not start a fastbreak. He times his jump well and can block with both hands, so IMO he won't be as much of foul magnet right away as a lot of other C/PFs who blocked a lot of shots in college. Aldrich was my favorite player on my favorite college team, but he won't be the best pro from that squad. Aldrich's shot is too mechanical. He will have to rebuild it from scratch if he wants to get a jump shot off against NBA players. He will be able to rebound and defend the post at the next level. His free throw shooting (a long, drawn-out process designed as much to draw lane violations as making free throws) will drive you nuts. Paul George is a SF from Fresno State. He wasn't a big-time HS recruit, didn't play against big-time competition, and didn't play on TV much, so he's sneaking up on a lot of folks. One name floated around as a comp for him is Danny Granger. George split time between PF and SF in college, but will have play SF in the pros. He can jump out of the gym and shoots threes well, but isn't much at creating his own shot. Combine that with a mid-major conference late bloomer, and the comp to Granger makes a lot of sense.Avery Bradley is a combo guard from Texas. He turned pro at least one year too early. More defense than offense. Built like Leo Barbosa - only 6'2"-6'3", but wingspan is like 6'8", so even though he's built like a PG, he could play some SG. Eric Bledsoe was the other elite freshman PG at Kentucky. He was overshadowed by John Wall, but he has NBA PG skills. He's not very bright (his academic qualifications were suspicious, part of the reason why he ended up at UK even with Wall also there), but no doubt he can play. He's a decent risk late in the first round because he will either be a starting PG or out of the league in two years with no waiting around to see if he can develop, but might be a little bit of a reach at TOR's pick.Patrick Patterson was the grownup on Kentucky. They played mostly Calipari's freshmen, and Patterson. He's a little small for PF (more Carl Landry than Karl Malone), but he's tough and has a high basketball IQ. He won't create a lot of points on offense, but will keep balls alive and get putbacks. He should be a solid defensive contributor; he can rebound, and should develop into an excellent help defender in the post.
