Then again with all the Rocket "move up in draft talk" this probably means the chances of getting Bosh has dwindled.
Up to this point Yao has not been the clear cut "man" nor will he likely be in the future since his minutes will be reduced and actually can stay healthy (which the odds are slim on that). This next year will be a huge one for the Rockets in determining if Yao will even be a Rocket in the future.Lebron would be the only player that could make the Rockets a non-Yao-o-Centric organization.Well what other teams can offer TOR the draft picks/players to get Bosh? If Bosh comes to the Rockets he will be the man, with or without Yao. No way will Bosh not do a sign and trade and give up all that extra $.I think Morey knows he's not getting BOsh. At no point has Bosh suggested he wants to come to Houston, and I suspect much of that is rooted in the fact that no one knows if Yao is going to be there. As much as getting Bosh would be a good deal for the team and the city, Yao will continue being the face of the franchise. And Bosh is likely thinking, "If I'm not going to be the man, then why wouldn't I go somewhere for the same money that has a better chance to win it all" like Miami or wherever James goes.
If Yao is in the NBA, he will be a Houston Rocket. I think you are worrying too much about things like "winning" and "stats" and not thinking enough about things like "money" and "marketing" and "holy cow there are a LOT OF PEOPLE IN CHINA BUYING ROCKETS GEAR."Up to this point Yao has not been the clear cut "man" nor will he likely be in the future since his minutes will be reduced and actually can stay healthy (which the odds are slim on that). He will stay a Rocket if he proves he can stay healthy / won't have to overpay for him to stay It's all about improving the team to Morey and if resigning Yao hurts their cap and chances of moving forward they won't. Wouldn't be shocked to even trade him if they go in another direction. Clearly last year shows that without Yao they won a good amount of games and aren't a lottery team w/o him. You East Coast? I thought you were a Warrior fan? The draft starts at 430 on the west, no reason to miss out on dinner and the draft!Ms. Celph netted herself a huge bonus this year, and as such I might not be able to make it to one of my favorite FFA events tonight as we might be out celebrating (haven't finalized dinner plans yet). I'll miss you guys.![]()
We'll just have to disagree. There is no way, under NBA salary cap rules, that Yao Ming can be overpaid. He is the most well known athlete in the most populous country on earth, a country with more "rich" people (those with disposable income) then there are people in the entire United States of America. The market for all-things-Yao is still going strong in China and his popularity carries the rest of the team - for a while, (IIRC), Tracy McGrady had the highest selling jersey on earth despite not being a top-10 player in the league. If Yao has a pulse and there is even a slight chance he will return to the court to play, he will be in Houston. He will stay a Rocket if he proves he can stay healthy / won't have to overpay for him to stay It's all about improving the team to Morey and if resigning Yao hurts their cap and chances of moving forward they won't. Just let us know what would be the most disappointing draft outcome possible and we'll ##### and moan for you here when it happens. Maybe Brittney Spears can fill in for you since he's a man without a team.Ms. Celph netted herself a huge bonus this year, and as such I might not be able to make it to one of my favorite FFA events tonight as we might be out celebrating (haven't finalized dinner plans yet). C'mon man, we're talking about Chris Wilcox!i think this happens only if cousins is sitting there at 1.7. otherwise, no chance....Lots of talk around Detroit about this:
Detroit gives #7 overall, Tayshaun Prince, Chris Wilcox
Minnesota gives #16, 23, Al Jefferson
You're counting that Yao for the first time in his NBA career will stay healthy and play at a dominate level which he hasn't to this point. Of course if he stays healthy all bets are off and of course they'll sign him but won't if he again gets hurts and doesn't play and then resign him for the max. You're also assuming that Yao is a very popular player in China which he's never even had the #1 jersey sales in China to dateWe'll just have to disagree. FAIL! He was #1 early in his career but since everyone and their momma has Yao jerseys (and the Rockets haven't changed theirs) others have taken the top spot away from Yao.You're counting that Yao for the first time in his NBA career will stay healthy and play at a dominate level which he hasn't to this point. I think they need to go big. So Cousins would be my pick. If not him Monroe. 2nd round I would like to see a PG maybe White or Warren.NICE. Have fun if you attend tonight. Are you still thinking Cousins is the pick (if he is available)? This is still my hunch/feeling, but you never know with Petrie. And any clue on a couple of the guys Sac will be looking at in rd 2 potentially?I'm pretty sure I'm going. I need to go to Natomas tonight anyways and they arw giving you a free ticket to a game if you show up.I plan on having a computer next to me so that I have all the rumors, and ordering some Chinese food about 1/2 hour from the start. Very exciting night.Going to the Kings draft party at Arco today. Time for another rookie of the year.
detroit may prefer to take the underachieving jefferson over the mercurial cousins. they probably don't want charlie v giving an "impressionable youth" any ideas. that they can pick up two mid R1 picks in the process is just gravy. minnesota gets someone better suited to work the paint with kevlove.i think if cousins is there it won't happen either because detroit would just take him.i think this happens only if cousins is sitting there at 1.7. otherwise, no chance....Lots of talk around Detroit about this:

I love it that if a guy gets hurt constantly and the team wins, he's played with heart. But if a guy gets hurt constantly and the team loses, he's fragile and a burden. You'd pawn this guy off to the higest bidder immediately if there were any takers. HeartI do not want to get rid of rim. I'm looking at it from the Raptors side. I want to keep the Lakers foundation of Kobe, Pau, Odom, Bynum, and Fish together. Add pieces around that until it doesn't work. Bynum has yet to be 100% for the playoffs, and all injuries have been freak plays. The courage he showed playing on a torn up knee shows his heart. I love the guy. Why? If you would rather have cap room than Bynum you are crazy. No one wants to go to Toronto and Bynum is a perfect player for them. Sure its a risk with his knee, but its worth it for a franchise who can only improve via trades and draft. If he's so good why are you in such a hurry to get rid of him?

No, I'm not counting on that at all. Even when Yao is hurt the ROckets are still the most followed and watched team in China. You're counting that Yao for the first time in his NBA career will stay healthy and play at a dominate level which he hasn't to this point. Even though I admit I brought it up, Chinese jersey sales is a terrible barometer of a player's popularity because the Chinese knock-off market isn't factored in. I suspect that everyone who is a basketball fan in China owns a Yao jersey, authentic or counterfeit. Suggesting that somehow Yao is not a "very popular player" in China is ridiculous. You're also assuming that Yao is a very popular player in China which he's never even had the #1 jersey sales in China to date
I don't think the Pistons want to take on the contract of Jefferson.ETA They are trying to sell the team. I would do that trade though,AJ is only 25Lots of talk around Detroit about thisetroit gives #7 overall, Tayshaun Prince, Chris WilcoxMinnesota gives #16, 23, Al Jefferson

This is why Kobe Bryant is the greatest sports icon in China; not Yao Ming, not Yi Jianlian, not even groundbreaking hurdle-champion Liu Xiang.

Chris Cohan is still the owner.Damn more and more sources are saying the Dubs are going to draft Udoh over Monroe! Can anyone try to rationalize this for me? Hopefully it is a smoke screen.

Willing to trade Bynum for Bosh does not = "hurry to get rid of him".There is a reason he's the #1 target on Toronto's sign and trade list. Why? According to a source, the Knicks are making plans to host an elaborate meal and meeting with James in a high-end location in Manhattan during the afternoon and evening of July 1, which is next Thursday. The tentative plan is for Knicks management and officials to host James and his various agents and friends for a large dinner party catered by a celebrity chef.
The Knicks are currently scouring the city for an available high-rise condo or apartment with a great view to rent for the event, the source said.
Rumor they may package two of them to get Toronto's 13th.The Thunder aren't possibly keeping all these picks, right? Any wild speculation about what they'll do? Swapping with Indy to get to 10 got any legs?
What could be more romantic than sitting down together with some nice wine, and watching overpaid kids on TV?: (Ms. Celph netted herself a huge bonus this year, and as such I might not be able to make it to one of my favorite FFA events tonight as we might be out celebrating (haven't finalized dinner plans yet). this should not be a problem. if this report is to be believed then the knicks are rank amateurs.Link

I can rail on Stephen Curry, no problem!I was picking the Wolves since I think it's a safe time to get aboard and not be called a bandwagonner. The water's warm, come on in.I don't really have a strong lean betw. Monroe and Udoh. Obviously GS needs interior defense badly, but Udoh's got some big ?'s. Cousins somehow falling would be ideal, because #### it, the franchise is a mess anyway. Missed this before...ya I'm not sure there was a "list". Didn't Bosh say today on M&M that he'd take a S&T to Cleveland? Cavs weren't on that "list". Bosh will go where somebody else goes.Walton Goggins said:There was no list or at least it was reported after a list was given that then a list was not given.tommyGunZ said:Was Houston even on the list Bosh gave Toronto for S&T possibilities?
i actually like udoh for the Warriors. he gives them some toughness and perhaps a willingness to do the dirty work on the interior. they don't need scoring per se but they do need some balance. monroe is talented but he's a weird fit for that team. udoh's athleticism is a big plus. he may be unpolished and a bit of one year wonder but nellie could do things with him.I don't really have a strong lean betw. No kidding. They've only had this plan for over 2 years. they won't get any better with kurt rambis at the helm either.Brit, if you're not going to go with OK City, I'd go with the Dubs. You're close and will prolly be in SF several time over the next decade. They're west coast. And they've got some young pieces that will be fun to watch develop.Minny is just a ####### wasteland. You'll never, ever, ever never be able to see them in person, and they're never on TV. Unless you're from Minny, I don't know why anyone would sign with the Wolves as a FA fan.
Do you ever regret bandwagoning a team that does well, instead of an up-and-coming team? It would be more satisfying when they won.Brit, if you're not going to go with OK City, I'd go with the Dubs.
