I've never thought Roy was that good. At his best, he was a top-25 guy but I'm not sure there was ever a time I thought he was one of the 10 bestp layers in the league.

2 years ago he was borderline top 10 player in the league, and looked to be on the verge of cementing himself as a top 10 player. The only other wing players clearly better than him were Kobe, Lebron, and Wade.

Two years ago, it may have been possible to make the argument that he was better than Kobe and close to the levels of Wade and Lebron.

So maybe they can collect enough wins in his absence to solidify the chance for home court in round 1.

I wouldn't disagree with that, the offense was so Roy-centric and Roy isn't a talent like Lebron so the Blazers at times looked pretty mediocre if you could slow down Roy.

Yes, I agree. But against certain opponents there will be a need for a bigger 5, at least for limited minutes. Also, Gibson isn't 100% healthy and gets in foul trouble a lot. These minutes will go to Asik (probably) or Thomas (I hope).

Yeah, I don't see coach giving Gibson more than 30 minutes a game so someone is getting minutes that we won't want. If they go small, then Watson will probably see an increase in the back court with Rose. If they go big, then it is Asik or Thomas. I think they are giving Asik as much time as possible to see how he develops as they know what they have in Thomas. I am hoping that Brewer gets more time in Noah's absence. He is a poor shooter but his defense has been very good and his baseline play is fitting in well with the offense.

That's where I think I'm going. So what, maybe a 10% shot one of those teams makes the Finals?I posted this half-jokingly, but I can see it turning into a bit of a problem for the NBA. A league can't survive on villains vs. villain stories. At the moment there's nothing redeeming about any of the big three teams in my eyes. No underdogs, no long-suffering fans, no appealing personalities, none of that. You don't even get that superstar chasing a title thing, because it's basically a foregone conclusion that the Heat will win a title some time in the next few years. I'm a big fan of all sports- the kind of guy who watches regular season college basketball and mid-December Bowl games- and I could see myself skipping some or maybe even most or all of the NBA Finals simply because I have no desire to see any of those teams win. I wonder if the league is hoping that Rose and the Bulls or Durant, Westbrook and the Thunder can join the ranks of the elite soon, because this Heat team can only draw eyes based on novelty or curiosity for so long.

All the Knicks haters will bring up the same stuff time and time again. Did you see the Melo reaction to the Nets trade? He clearly doesnt want them.The Nets dont play at the Garden, and will always be a second fiddle to the Knicks in NY.

If the Nets deal Favors for Melo he is going to a team with only Brook Lopez as an NBA starter quality and he is pretty mediocre compared to Amare.

I'm not a Knicks hater, and I wouldn't mind seeing him end up there at all. I think it would be great for the league. I was just correcting something that was wrong.I'm sure he doesn't want to go to the Nets, but if the Knicks had Felton, Amare and Wilson Chandler I doubt playing on Flatbush instead of 7th Avenue would bother him.

U meant Nets there i suppose, but that is irrelevant at this point, because the whole Melo to NY started only after we got Amare in offseason.Without Amare we would be 6-20 right now, so all those people who killed Donnie for signing Amare for 100M were fools. The Nets saved up cap space for 2 years as well and ended up with Farmar, Morrow and Outlaw for the price of Amare

But he sees the Garden is alive and kicking, and he sees the Knicks have a stud in Amare and an all star caliber PG in Felton. plus he loved the Knicks as a kid and its a no brainer.

For those that ripped the trade, what were they supposed to do offer Amare a 3 year deal? Knicks are a fish out of water with David Lee instead of Amare.

The thing about Amare is he is a real baller, David Lee might have gotten nice stats and more boards but he was not a finisher like Amare is.

Boozer would probably have been the next option if Amare had resigned with Phoenix (them signing Frye, Childress and getting Turko instead of reupping Amare was dumb then and dumber now) and I dont think he is the game changer Amare is and he is even more of an injury concern

Over the week i saw a quote where Wade said he had zero actual interest in the Knicks in the offseason and was only going to go to the Bulls if the Heat trio didnt work out. Which makes him even a bigger doosh to me since he went to TWO meetings with Knicks and went to Nets and others just wasting their time. I'm with ya....just didn't see them mentioned. I haven't decided on my team yet...but it won't be the Heat! I'd like to see Dirk make another run....and maybe the Spurs as painful as that is. I don't think the Thunder are viable yet. I don't like the Jazz either but I like Deron and it would be sweet for them to be better and get farther without Boozer.

You're right, I haven't been paying much attention.They were somewhat sympathetic as a bunch of hardworking, talented guys who had never won a title in '08. Then they became the guys who knocked off Kobe and the Lakers, which engenders much affection and gratitude from most NBA fans (as I imagine even you can understand). Then for the last two years they were sort of under the radar, as most dismissed them as over the hill and thought the Magic and Cavs had passed them by. So they really hadn't been prominent between the 2008 title until the playoffs last year- plus I'm guessing their dooshiness was more limited when they weren't considered the best in the East. Man, it's shining through now, though.

Yup, 20.It's a lingering ailment, but I'm hopeful it's not a career-threatening one. It's not like a fracture or something. It's just wear and tear. I checked it out and one of the main causes is a significantly increased workload for activity involving lots of cutting and starting and stopping, which describes his last three months pretty much on the nose. Having a sensitivity to it does not bode well, but hopefully with conditioning and time he'll learn to manage and suppress it. I am getting a little concerned, though . We have rotten luck around here.

I don't know if Ovechkin needs an injury to confirm the curse. Losing a series to the 8 seed as the President's Trophy winner is evidence enough.

From 2007-2010 he averaged 21 points, 5 assists, and 4.5 rebounds -- something that only 6 other guys did (and Roy played fewer minutes per game than all of those 6 guys).Clearly he wasn't in the Wade/Kobe tier, but he was definitely in the Joe Johnson/Paul Pierce tier.It doesn't really matter now, though. He's done. Andrew Toney, Ron Harper, Derek Smith, etc. Just another casualty of bad knees.

You're right, I haven't been paying much attention.They were somewhat sympathetic as a bunch of hardworking, talented guys who had never won a title in '08. Then they became the guys who knocked off Kobe and the Lakers, which engenders much affection and gratitude from most NBA fans (as I imagine even you can understand). Then for the last two years they were sort of under the radar, as most dismissed them as over the hill and thought the Magic and Cavs had passed them by. So they really hadn't been prominent between the 2008 title until the playoffs last year- plus I'm guessing their dooshiness was more limited when they weren't considered the best in the East. Man, it's shining through now, though.

That's fair. I've always liked KG's toughness and will, but I think he's mostly gotten a free ride from fans because his hot-doggery is rooted on the defensive end. For some reason, growling and beating your chest after a block or a big defensive rebound is okay, whereas showboating after draining a contested 3 in a big moment is viewed as highly arrogant. I've never understood why.

Knicks Fans> When was the last time a team that gave up 106ppg for real? I've checked the last 10 years and couldn't find one... tough to even find a team that made the playoffs giving up that much. TIA.

This Knicks team will not be confused with the 90's Knicks teams, but they are a lot better on defense than the last couple of Knicks teams. Giving up 106/game is also a product of their offensive philosophy of quick shots which means more possessions for both teams.

Over the week i saw a quote where Wade said he had zero actual interest in the Knicks in the offseason and was only going to go to the Bulls if the Heat trio didnt work out. Which makes him even a bigger doosh to me since he went to TWO meetings with Knicks and went to Nets and others just wasting their time. It wasnt a contract ploy, since he was getting the same Max deal from every team, just a dooshy move by a wannabe attention grabber

Wade has been a attention seeking doosh since the day they had to wheel him off the court in Detroit in a wheel chair.

Nets keep Favors and send a boatload of 1st rd picks to Denver - I've seen 3 or even 4 mentioned - Nets send cap fillers (Murphy contract) but keep Favors.....this may be wishful thinking by the Nets and I would be thrilled if it happened but I just dont think Denver would move off Favors at this point -

what do you think is better - Murphy and 3-4 1st rders (one probably a top 5 in 2011) or rumored Knicks offers?

Maybe they take the Nets offer to stick it to Melo/Knicks but it would take a hell of a sales job from J-Z and Proky to make Melo sign off....although he may be more interested in coming to the Nets with Favors on it - I think this is the best move for the Nets and hope they stick to this offer. I would even sweeten the pot with Devin Harris or any of the other players not named Lopez/Favors.

I don't recall all the draft picks the Nets have, but the different combos offer far different values. The Lakers pick has the least value, the 2011 Nets pick has the most value, the 2012 Nets pick and the lottery protected Rockets pick are about equal... Is the other pick a GS 2011 lottery protected? If so, that pick is worth a little more than the 2012 picks. So ideally, from denvers prospective, 2011 Nets 2011 GS 2012 Hou would be the 3 picks, and the 4 picks would be the first 3 plus the Lakers pick because the Nets can't trade back to back 1st rounders... So I guess the Nets offer is only better if they give the Nuggets the right picks, especially in the case of only sending 3 picks.

Not sure what the team does from here. They have some very good young players in Lowry, Brooks, Budinger, even Jordan Hill is coming along with increased minutes. But they aren't anywhere near being a top-team in the West and the "top tier" guys in the NBA are mostly wrapped up to long term deals in other places and not interested in moving. Hm.

I would say that's a definitely a better of than NY's, but I would love to have Favors in a Nuggets Uni, I think he would be very complementary to Nene.
