*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (4 Viewers)

LeBron plays great in game after game and you guys stay silent. Then Miami loses and all the doubters come out. Pathetic.I think Dallas is going to win this series- IF Dirk is healthy. There may be something wrong with him, I'm not sure. But even if Dallas does win, that takes nothing away from the greatness of LeBron James. He is the best player in the NBA, and one of the best ever.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: tim, bag out of this thread. You're horrid.

The amazing thing is that Dallas played so poorly offensively (turnovers, poor shooting from Dirk and Terry for most of the game) and they still won. They have to be extremely encouraged.
Dallas has to come home and win game 3. Then the pressure will really close in on "King James" & company.

But even if Dallas does win, that takes nothing away from the greatness of LeBron James. He is the best player in the NBA, and one of the best ever.
This simply is not true. If they blow this series, He would have to jump through Herculean hoops to regain his "greatness".
Yeah...his legacy would never recover if he lost a series to on of the ten best players of all time...
Lol who is that?
Barea

I think Dallas has played mostly awful and they still had a real chance to win both games. Miami was better/good enough in game one, but last night was pathetic. Not to be an "I told you so" guy, but I said early that Dallas could score in bunches like miami does and thus no lead was safe. Blowing a 15 point lead in less then a quarter is inexcusible.

Have to love the fact that LeBron and Wade et al were celebrating more with 4 minutes left than the Mavericks were after the win. But it's ultimately that arrogance that did them in. LeBron being arrogant, reverting to his Cleveland form and running down the clock and settling for terrible 3's near the end of the game that opened the door for the Mavs. Thanks, LeBron!
Hater. You watch a lot of basketball? I see it all the time. Please.Heat will take 2/3 in Dallas. Enjoy this moment Mav's fans.

The Heat will be marinating in all this hate with ESPN and the national media. It will be the best thing for them. This feels just like when we lost game one to the Bulls.

The Heat will come out razor focused and take game 3.

Mark it.

I watch plenty of basketball. The heat should be up 2-0. Considering how poorly Dallas has played overall, it is surprising that they aren't. Dallas needs to win the next two, IMO.

Why is everyone so simple-minded about this? Individual players don't "win" rings in team sports. To win a championship, you have to play for the best team. It's not clear to me that the Heat are the best team this year. Maybe they are, maybe they're not. The Mavs are very very good, and might be better than the Heat. If they are, how does that take away from LeBron's individual greatness? I just don't get this logic.A lot of older people I talk to from Southern California tell me that for years they considered Elgin Baylor to be the best player in all of basketball. He went to the Finals 6 times, but lost to Boston every time. In 1969 he had two of the all time greats with him, Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain, and they STILL couldn't beat the Celtics. And that's better than Oscar Robertson, who couldn't even get IN to the Finals until the end of his career when he had Kareem. When you assess individual greatness in a team sport, you simply can't do it by counting rings. I know everybody does, including the players, and all of you. But it's dumb. I don't care how many people disagree with me on this.

I agree no doubt they blew this game. And hat's off to Dallas for taking it the Heat who:1) shut down the offense and took the shot clock down to 5-6 before they ran a set, chucked up threes. No way this team should have 30 3pt attempts. You stop a run by going to the hole. The Heat stopped driving the ball and should have been trying to get to the line. It was baffling2) The last sequence I put on Coach Spo. It is all on him. A foul to give and you put Bosh one on one vs. Dirk? Insane. Bosh also had a massive brain fart by not fouling dirk as soon as his back turned to the basket. A huge meltdown defensively by the entire team. The Heat let this one get away. And all this nonsense of the celebration coming early is just a national media latching on to a story to exploit and bash the Heat...again...for the umteenth time. It's so predictable and old and it is becoming quite a cliche. Jon Barry....your a tool! The Heat will respond. Like they always have this season.

Dan MarinoPatrick EwingReggie MillerJust right off the top of my head. Can anyone deny their greatness?Championships are won by teams. Agreed. But the measure of an individual's greatness in a sport has so many other factors involved. So many great players we can name who never won a title. It is a silly and juvinile argument. I agree 100%. However it is the way it is in sports and it seems to define players careers.

I hope you realize the Heat have given neutral fans a number of reasons to dislike them even if the media did nothing to promote it. I am blown away by their talent but their attitude since day 1 has dripped with over the top arrogance. If you act like an arrogant ###, a lot of people will not like you (although some will love you). I wish they would just accept that and just throw it in our faces by winning a title. They may in fact do that, but they had to whine about a lot of justified hate in the process as if they didn't play the role. If they just kept the attitude all year, it would be far more entertaining and far less irritating.

:goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: People can argue all they want, but its the first thing people think of.Dan Marino, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Charles Barkley, etc. Them not winning a title is one of the first things people talk about when bringing up their careers. Dirk said it best this week. 2006 will be on people's minds about him forever until he wins a title. He will hear about 06 the rest of his life and it will torture him if he doesn't ever win. Barkley tried his best to defend the subject the same way on Simmons podcast last week. After he hung up, Simmons and Klosterman talked about the interview and said you could really tell it affected Barkley not winning a title by the way he kept trying to defend it, it hurts him.Todem said it best, it might not be the right logic, but it does define a players career.

I suppose I wasn't clear: I'm agreeing with those at said the Miami offense went in the toilet at the end of the game. The "no lead is safe" comment = the team winning has to keep it's foot on the gas. The "inexcusable" comment = Miami didn't keep it's foot on the gas.

I guess. Being a lifelong Heat fan this has been a joy to finally have such an elite roster. It has me giddy and they can do no wrong in my eyes. I have enjoyed and soaked in all of it. yeah the introduction was over the top....but if you were part of it as a fan (which I di indeed do as I was there) it was a great moment for Heat fans. I knew we had not won anything yet.....but it is coming. The title this year...and next and the year after that (I know getting way ahead of myself here) will justify it all.If you know Dwyane Wade like we do...he is not arrogant. He is a class act. And Lebron has been nothing but class here in Miami. He has not spewed hate, he has handeled himself like a Pro. Bosh too. The guy is soft spoken and gives 100% effort. They have carried themselves like any great team IMO. They have overcome a couple of big injuries (Haslem, Miller) and held together through thick and thin. Not once has this team had any issues that have been destructive. They play great basketball. It can't be denied. And Sunday.....all this chatter will cease again.Hey I am glad this happened. I want the Heat to have to earn this. Going into Dallas...this Sunday is a huge game. And Champions respond to adversity. Dallas did a fantastic job last night. Now it is the Heats turn to officially make this a series by winning Sunday night.

Gotcha. Yes, it was impressive Dallas came back to win but they were helped out with a Miami meltdown. Your Dallas prediction is still looking good.

I love how todem openly wonders why people find the Heat arrogant, as he says they're going to win the next 3 titles in the same post. Lol.

After the Heat were up 15 (88-73), they took 11 shots, 7 shots were 3 pointers, including their last 5 shots of the game (including half court shot at buzzer).

I still don't understand how Wade doesn't get the ball and go the basket, like he had been all game. Wade's only shot in last 6 minutes was an off balance 3 at the shot clock buzzer.

That is all we are talking about here on the local sports talk shows. We are baffled.

They ran isolation plays. Pretty sure that is the most effective offense possible.

It's almost like

A) More than one team in the Finals is very good on defense

B) The same thing every team does, run out the clock to 5 or 10 left and iso their best player...doesn't work against a great defense.

Todem dude, you act like the Heat have done nothing to piss people off, but every post you make reeks of the very arrogance that does exactly that...And I'm a fan of arrogance - when you've actually done something. If they win the next two titles, I'm ok with the arrogance. Right now? It's just kind of funny and a little sad.

Why did they have to do anything else? Wasn't that enough? Have they continued with this kind of arrogance? Is this still just title number 1 of 8 or are there now greater goals in mind?

As fans...we are not expecting 4,5,6 titles. All that was shtick by Lebron and company. Now back to back...yeah that is an expectation. We want to have our moment in the sun as a legit dynasty in the NBA. If we can go back to back (let's win the first one...I agree) we have a shot at that.Yeah there is an air of arrogance. Hard not to have it when you know we have two of the three best players in the world. For me I take it as good fun, and entertainment. I want my team to be very confident and hey...they know they have to prove it.The goal is still there and they have to earn it.On to Sunday.

Actually, that's all they had to do. When 2 of the top 10 players in the league decide to join up to get their rings, it cheapens their accomplishments. I hated the 2001-02 Red Wings, I hated the 2003-04 Lakers and I hate on the Heat. I'm not disputing that Wade, James and Bosh are great players, but if they win, it will be because they are supposed to, because their roster has ######' Wade, James and Bosh.

There is another level of gear that takes hold when you get over that championship hump, and I'm sorry, you have it or you don't. Now if you want to talk to a guy like Ernie Banks or Archie Manning who REALLY lacked the supporting cast to make the playoffs, never mind win it, thats one thing. But in the above, and its really more about a Marino, or a Ewing, and less so about a Reggie Miller who probably willed teams beyond his talent, but when you look at those guys, who had opportunities and couldn't cash in, I don't know. Marino gets a bigger pass though, and frankly, Ewing was going up against Jordan.Lebron is supposed to BE Jordan. He's not floundering with the Cavs here, he assembled the dream team, he arranged this, and in hoops, more than any other sport, the individual star dominates that game, if only because of the sheer number of players on the court. He has help, he is supposed to be the king. If he doesn't win titles, he is not great, its that simple.

Actually when you have played sports you whole life (again not comparing my amatuer sports life to professional sports) you lose games like this and it only makes you better and gives you a thicker skin. My softball team in the spring season had lost three games by a combined score of 3-0. In the post season we won 2 games en route to the title by a combined score of 2-0. We learned from it.The Heat have been on a roll this post season. They have not had a total collapse like this during post season. It happened. And out of a huge negative like this will come a huge positive. Awareness. Not to let it slip away again. I am highly confident the Heat responds with an positive exclamation point Sunday.

They have not had a total collapse like this this post season. It happened. And out of a huge negative like this will come a huge positive. Awareness. Not to let it slip away again. I am highly confident the Heat responds with an positive exclamation point Sunday.
Wow! The Heat have been on a roll this postseason? I could have sworn the team on a roll was the one that swept the defending champs and already has MULTIPLE comebacks just like last night...no wonder people dislike Miami.

didn't the Mavs choke a game away to Portland in the first round? Looks like they got better after it happened.

Bottom line is I am surprised that other than the "Decision" and the "July Rock Concert" what has the Heat really done to get people in such a tizzy?
Actually, that's all they had to do. When 2 of the top 10 players in the league decide to join up to get their rings, it cheapens their accomplishments. I hated the 2001-02 Red Wings, I hated the 2003-04 Lakers and I hate on the Heat. I'm not disputing that Wade, James and Bosh are great players, but if they win, it will be because they are supposed to, because their roster has ######' Wade, James and Bosh.
Can't disagree with you. They are supposed to win. And that is the expectation. Still winning is fun when it's your home team. But I agree with your point. I loved when the Marlins won the 97 series. We made a bunch of big signings and were built to win. I was at game 7. Amazing experience. However the 2003 team was the best title I have ever seen in baseball. That was not supposed to happen. I watched that team with maybe 3000 other people in the stands for years being built from the bottom up. It was so rewarding. And wow what a rush.Very good point.

Hey I am glad this happened. I want the Heat to have to earn this. Going into Dallas...this Sunday is a huge game. And Champions respond to adversity. Dallas did a fantastic job last night. Now it is the Heats turn to officially make this a series by winning Sunday night.
Color me skeptical.

You know.......many posts I have made have said...the Mavs were fantastic last night. They are a great team. We lost to a great team. It's a seven game series.Your not beating us 3 more times. Not happening.

Damn I thought the annoying fanboy shtick was done with the Lakers.

I can not wait until the Warriors are in the finals so we can actually discuss basketball for a change.

So let me get this straight:

1. If LeBron wins, he doesn't deserve any credit because he's supposed to win- who wouldn't win with that much talent?

2. If LeBron loses, he is a choker and not a great player.

Gotcha!

It's the Finals man. What else do you want to talk about right now?

Lebron is supposed to BE Jordan. He's not floundering with the Cavs here, he assembled the dream team, he arranged this, and in hoops, more than any other sport, the individual star dominates that game, if only because of the sheer number of players on the court. He has help, he is supposed to be the king. If he doesn't win titles, he is not great, I'm its that simple.
Fixed

I never learned anything from losing. Especially not when compared to wwhat i learned from winning.
Really? You learn plenty from both. Sometimes though extreme heartache leads to extreme joy. Sometimes you have to lose a tough game to learn how to make sure you win it the next time. That's me though.
