Noah, Deng, and both firsts.Seriously, that would be my "interested" point if I'm Orlando. The new CBA may afford the incumbent team a chance to pay more/longer then the UFA market. PLus there is no assurance that Howard is bolting for sure. If they are going to trade him, it has to be for enough of a haul that even if he says, "I wanted to re-sign here!" on the way out the door, no one would be THAT upset.

They'll take a deal with Cleveland for the four, even if its just a future 1st or a 2nd round pick if they truly want Kanter.

Bad news for CLE unless they have a solid plan to trade out of the 4 spot. Not that I really want Kanter, but they can't take 2 PG's so then they have to reach for Kawhi or someone. Word is they are backing off Valenciunas due to his contract situation. Thank goodness.
 
If Kanter goes 2nd, I can't imagine Cleveland wouldn't offer something to UTAH to get the 3rd pick and select WIlliams.

I know this is not how you mean it, but the Cavs better hope not - i love Billups game now, but he was in no way prepared to be a PG when the Celts got him as the consolation prize in the Duncan lottery sweepstakes back '97.

That was a TERRIBLE year for G's - Billups and Daniels were early busts and then the low ceiling guys (Knight, Rhodes, Shammgod, etc) also all busted. I thought Derek Anderson was going to be the best non-Wake Forest center drafted that year. And even he busted.What a terrible draft, minus Timmah.

If Min really wants Kanter, the Cavs are gonna know about it because Minny should do it at #4 unless they are truely worried that the Jazz are moving back and somebody would jump them for Kanter. Then Minny would be royally screwed. In this situation, the Cavs would probably be able to pay less to Minny to get Williams than to the Jazz to get Williams...I'm assuming the Jazz would be more willing to listen to more offers from the field and drop further back in the draft and picking up a pick+player than the Wolves. Then again, if the Cavs move to 2 or 3, some people will probably be saying they got fleeced because the Wolves or Jazz will still get who they wanted anyways and the Cavs really didn't need to deal at all, except for fear that the Wolves/Jazz are talking to other teams.If that makes any sense...

Does a team like the Jazz really need 3 first round picks in this draft? I really don't see them moving back giving up the #3 (and Knight) to a team that is offering them two 1sts (Rockets/Bobcats/?).

 
Just read a Simmons NBA Draft trade column on Grantland, which mostly just made be angry for all of Simmons poor evaluation and dumb ideas, but his last two trades made a lot of sense.

Minnesota gets Monta Ellis; Memphis gets the no. 2 pick, the no. 11 pick, Jonny Flynn, and Martell Webster; Golden State gets Rudy Gay

Phoenix trades Steve Nash, Jared Dudley, and Josh Childress to San Antonio for Tony Parker and Richard Jefferson

Not that I think Utah should draft Kanter, but Jefferson is so awful defensively that he is hard to call a stud and the Millsap-Jefferson front court doesn't work all that well because they are both undersized for their positions.

I thought it was a dumb trade then. Lottery picks for bad teams are what turns franchises around. You don't just trade them for cap relief. If you do you better be getting a heck player (Mo Williams is not).

The Clippers already have a strong young group of 5 for each position (Bledsoe-Gordon-Aminu-Griffin-Jordan), so they aren't really desperate for young talent to develop. If the Clippers pick ended up somewhere closer to where they finished during the season (they finished 8th worst, so say if the pick was between 5-11), then the trade looks no where near as bad as it does now considering how weak this draft is for top-end talent after the first 2 picks.

Gordon and Griffin are the only ones who are true keepers IMO. Jordan is a RFA and Bledsoe and Aminu will never be All*Star level players. At best they become upper tier starters.

Not even sure what you mean by this because the bottom line is that the Clip traded a future pick and it ended up being #1 overall. Still can't believe they didn't add top-3 protection or anything to the pick.

Probably more of the latter than the former. The triangle only works well with an elite wing player imo, and Beasley wasn't it. There was a stubbornness about Rambis that I didn't like in MN. I get trying to instill a culture, but it seem like he was constantly pointing to players as the problem, not anything he did.
 
Man....I can't imagine how much Rambis must hate Khan for making him wait this long and treating him so poorly. Agree with T, I didnt like Rambis but he deserved a more professional firing.

I heard that the basic premise of the trade was agreed to months before it happened, it might have even been over the previous summer, but the Cavs were unwilling to do it if the pick was protected. The Cavs never budged off of that and the Clips caved at the deadline.

I agree, its a little much, but Minnesota doesn't need Irving or Williams, so Ellis would be much better than Kanter. Maybe if GS throws in Udoh and Amundson for Pekovic or Milicic?

Considering the contract I think I'd just as soon have Kanter, but I can see where it might be an ok deal.

Do you meant both 2011 firsts? I think the Magic will be wanting the Bobcats pick. I know the Bulls see Noah as a cornerstone of the franchise. I hope that doesn't prevent them from making a deal for Howard.
 
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers offered Lamar Odom for Minnesota's #2. The Timberwolves said no, but then said they'd take either Bynum or Gasol. The Lakers said no to that.
