At what point does the NBA draft leave the level of excitement of the NFL draft and join the ranks of the MLB and NHL drafts? It seems like every year there are fewer and fewer no-brainer picks, more and more draft and stash tactics, selling of draft picks, etc. I agree with Cappy, before this week, I couldn't have named 10 guys going to be picked tonight, and I watch my fair share of college basketball. Here is the current draft history for the World Champion Dallas Mavericks:2010 - Solomon Alabi2009 - Byron Mullens, Ahmad Nivins2008 - Shan Foster2007 - Nick Fazekas, Renaldas Seibutis, Milovan Rakovic2006 - Maurice Ager, J.R. Pinnock2005 - No Picks2004 - Vassilis SpanoulisNow, granted, Dallas is a unique case because they draft late, draft Euros, take risks. But out of these 10 guys, 5 of them never even signed NBA contracts and none have played meaningful minutes for anyone in the NBA, much less the Mavs.Yes, you will have a few superstars, but overall, the chances of finding a productive player, even at the top of the draft, is nowhere what it use to be.
