This end of draft is ####### entertaining with these guys that none of the panel know about.Even Fran (their international guru) is saying WTF are these guys are getting drafted (ahead of proven college players). Guy taken by the Lakers averaged .7 (that's point 7) PPG in the D-League!!

They're building a decent foundation, but it's all pointless unless 2 or 3 of them make "The Leap" to elite status (or at least semi-elite status). I can definitely see Wall making The Leap, but who is going to join him? They've got a bunch of guys who would be rotation players for a playoff team......but only 2-3 guys who could be starters for a playoff team.Anyone else think the Wizards are building a pretty damn good team, or am I just a

Ater Majok was a 5-star recruit at one point, blew up and created a major recruiting war, UConn edged out UK for his services, he missed a bunch of time getting his eligibility squared away, and then he was mysteriously dumped before last year. You know how when the cops are at the door, you flush the drugs down the toilet? Majok was those drugs.
Kicked around Australia pro ball this year. Supposedly has a nice outside game, and can definitely block shots.

Wow many international players going late
Abraham, I can't stand KU, and I really can't stand the Morris brothers. They're dirty cheap shot artists. Most KU fans would agree. That said, Morris is a lot more versatile than you're giving him credit for. He has a pretty well rounded offensive game (better than Patterson). He's got good feet, and the turnaround isn't his only post move. In addition, he can step out and hit the three. He's a pretty solid rebounder who isn't afraid to mix it up. I thought it was a good pick, and that's coming from a guy who's hoping they fail.While I LOVE that the rockets got Montiejunas (NBADraft.net had him as one of the four highest players in the pool) I'm still shuked over the Morris pick. The Rockets are actually strong at PF with Scola and Patterson developing. Toss in Jordan HIll and Chuck Hayes (who should be a PF and not a C) and I'm a little confused as to why they didn't take Vucevic if they knew they were after Montiejunas all along. Morris seems to me to be a fairly pedestrian PF - he has one shot (turnaround jumper from the block) that will be easily defended by 1/3 of the league and he doesn't look like a strong rebounder (which is their biggest area of need by FAR).As a note, Houston now has 3 of the top 8 (and 4 of the top 11) picks from the 2009 draft.

The major story of the night went unreported - when i saw 6'11" Vesely not have to bend down to kiss his gf, my heart jumped into my throat at the thought that there might be a hot 6' 8" Slavic chick roaming the earth. Only 6'3" and this is the hottest picture i could find of her - Eva Viteckova. Oh, well...

Happy with the Warriors draft:
SG/SF Klay Thompson

Warriors added wing who should ease the minutes of Monta and Wright and take some from Reggie Williams who was very inconsistent last year. He's got a pure jumper and a perimeter of Curry, Thompson, and D. Wright will be amazing to watch with all the 3s being launched. Those guys are also unselfish enough to pass the ball until one of them gets an open look.
Even if Jeremy Tyler never pans out, what he symbolizes in regards to the new ownership - a winning attitude vs business decisions, is HUGE. The Warriors have rarely spent money to buy 2nd rounders, instead trading them away for peanuts. Hell the Warriors have barely spent money trying to win. As a player Tyler is the type of player you take a shot at in the 2nd round. He could be the 2nd coming of DeAndre Jordan - which is exactly what the Warriors need. Not saying he'll get there, but that type of potential is worth the risk.
Charles Jenkins - Dude is built like a brickhouse. 6-3 and 216 pounds of muscle. That makes him the HEAVIEST of the Warriors guards (heavier than Reggie Williams and D. Wright too!). Looks like he can score and plays with a high motor. Tony Douglas type player?
All in all, this draft was WAAAAAAY better than last year's when the Warriors drafted Udoh. Let's go DUBS!

Wondering if the Lakers should kick the tires on Baron Davis. Between Walton, Blake, Barnes and Artest the Lakers have some contracts that can match up. Lakers being able to deal Artest is unlikely but the other three perhaps could bring Baron to LA.
Thinking Cleveland does not want Baron anywhere near Irving. Couple of vets like Walton and Blake may be more useful to Cleveland then Baron.

I'm iffy on Vesely at 6, as I assume most people are about most Euros. But I'm a big ACC basketball fan and I love Singleton. He's an amazing defender. Exactly the kind of guy the team needs and an absolute steal at 18.Others have pointed out that none of it matters unless they find a way to get 2-3 superstars on the roster. I suppose that's true, but ...Anyone else think the Wizards are building a pretty damn good team, or am I just a
1. So what? They weren't gonna get one in this draft at 6 or 18. All they can do is draft the best player/fit available, and they did a fine job of that. Getting a superstar is a matter of managing cap space, getting a supporting cast in place, and most importantly pure luck. They got lucky once when they won the lottery and got Wall. Now they'll need to do it again.
2. The 2-3 stars thing is the formula for winning a title. That's a long way off. At this point I think most Wizards fans just want to make the playoffs within the next two years. They helped themselves last night.

I keep hearing this but I don't think it's true. Baron played hard (when not injured) and was nothing but professional on a historically bad team. The Cavs were noticably better with him on the floor. He knows Scott's system as well as anyone. Not saying they wouldn't move him for the right offer, but i'm guessing they would rather he stay and help Irving than trade him for the Lakers' garbage.

The NBA channel had a euro head coach on their show talking about all the foreign players he had watched in the draft. He said Montiejunas had talent but no tenacity at all. He described the perfect team around him as a bunch of wild dogs to bring the passion he lacks. I think all the picks were great. However, there could be a severe lack of offense from 3-5 on that team going forward. I guess the hope is Vesely can fill it up? Again, I just don't know much about him, other than the fact that he has a hot girlfriend, isn't opposed to PDA, and for some weird reason he can't shoot free throws.I'm kind of hoping they get to the lottery again next year and can grab Harrison Barnes. So the rockets board is harkening back to morris in high school when he played more outside. This mornings chatter is comparing him to David west and Paul pierce with the notion that he can be a "power three". He's not athletic enough to play the four but somehow he's our new perennial all star at small forward.

Knicks had their worst case scenario and were left with singleton or a need player like shump.
Singleton played sf the position they least need obviously. Got excited maybe Kemba would fall to us but that was for naught. Walsh did say he was thinking of moving up to 15 to get leonard but they didn't have assets to do that

They have a pile of young talent (Gallo, Chandler, Afflalo, Lawson, Mozgov, Hamilton and Faried), a top half dozen center (Nene.... hopefully he extends his deal), and only one bad contract (Harrington, but its not backbreaking because its relatively low in price at about 7/yr over the next 4 years but only half guaranteed in the final two years). I think the long term hope is that they can turn some of their young talent into a star player while Keeping the Nene/Lawson core. I would love to see them make some sort of trade for a player like Iguodola (Mozgov, Chandler on a new deal and a couple firsts?) and roll out a lineup with Nene, Gallinari, Iggy, Afflalo and Lawson with Farried and Hamilton coming off the bench. Its a homer pipe dream, but a boy can dream....

28 owners will make more money not having basketball. This is not the same situation at all as the NFL. The players wanted to give back about 500MM, the owners want 7-8BB back. Even Cuban at this point is wanting to go the distance and his team is making money.

In total the NBA players made something like $2B (if you add each teams salary you get approx $2.03B) last year, I don't think they are giving $7-8B back of money they don't have.

I was going to say Balkman with Evans' rebounding ability as a floor, but that would have been too many names. Faried is a very gifted athlete (similar to a guy like Ibaka) while Evans is a very poor athlete (probably bottom 10th of NBA PFs), I wouldn't call him slightly more athletic than Evans. College rebounding carries over incredibly well into the NBA, and Faried is one of the best rebounders in the history on the NCAA. If nothing else he will be a rebounder of Evans' caliber, and being that Evans offers nothing else, that should be Faried's ceiling.

I think Ibaka comparison is WAY off. I think he'll be a scrappy rebounder and get a few rebound dunks here and there. He can't dribble, he can't shoot, he can't pass and his footwork is suspect with the ball.
