TO THE TRADE MACHINE!There has got to be more than this from the Nets, right?Broussard who broke news of Howard's intentions, said the deal, as he understands it, would be Howard for Brook Lopez and two first round draft choices, presumably the Nets two picks in 2012: their own' first round pick and the Rockets lottery-protected pick obtained in the Terrence Williams trade a year ago. Whether other players would be included remains uncertain.
This isn't even close to bad news for the Blazers.Roy cost a fortune, couldn't contribute (once the knees were gone), and forced them to scrabble to find enough minutes for Batum. Many Blazer problems solved all at once, here. Batum set for a mega-huge breakout year. Not terrible news for the Blazers. Major cap relief.More terrible news, Brandon Roy is retiring.

I don't see it. You'd hate to lose the Roy of 2-3 years ago so suddenly. But the Roy of today offers nothing to people who are fans of the game. Just the reality of pro athletics, I guess.Confident "NBA fans" are going to love the new-look Blazers.(ETA: None of which is meant to diminish the amazing playoff performance from Roy still lurking in recent memory. But if you watched the team, it was obvious those moments were heading toward extinction anyway. And with this news, it's even more obvious that they sure weren't getting more frequent from here on out. Glad he left us with that one.)Terrible news for NBA fans. This isn't even close to bad news for the Blazers.Roy cost a fortune, couldn't contribute (once the knees were gone), and forced them to scrabble to find enough minutes for Batum. Please go back and look at James last three years in Cleveland and examine the pool of possible acquisitions. Let me know who else they should have signed.
As a long suffering Net fan I'll believe this when it happens - just not used to superstars ASKING to come to the Nets! From what I have read - Dwill is very close to DH and they have been discussing playing together for a while - Nets are in a good position to make it happen with cap room, billionaire owner and new arena...they dont have the history of Lakers but they can carve out their own history....its not like the Nets are the Clips - they had a nice run only a few years ago. Ball is in Magic court but Broussard is reporting its close - lets say its true and DH only wants to play for the Nets - (after I wake up)....as a Magic fan would you rather take the deal of Lopez, 2 1sts and dumping Hedo or deal with the circus for a year and seriously risk getting nothing.....Nets have the cap room to just sign him next summer and who really cares about 1 more crappy season in Newark - they'll keep Lopez and have some good picks so I can live with either!Wouldn't the Magic rather have Bynum than Lopez? Or does Howard just see a brighter future teaming with Deron Williams?

at your TT reference...Looks like New Jersey has the cap space to do this straight up. New Jersey really doesn't have much else that's palatable. Big news of the day: Raptors acquire Pietrus for a 2nd round pick.

WrongThe cavs made a ton of of moves to help lebron. The fact that they didn't work out in the playoffs doesn't mean they didn't try.exactly! the Cavs could have made a number of trades and free agent signings while he was there but chose to do nothing. they could have consulted Lebron on all of these moves. they could have coddled him and given all his buddies jobs and unfettered access to team amenities. they could have spent above the luxury tax even if it meant putting them in a cap bind should he leave. but noooooo, they did nothing. stupid cheapass Gilbert! This is the best part of the letter. Hey Dan, if you don't want to be the Washington Generals, then don't act like them. When you're lucky enough to get one of the greatest players of all time in the draft, perhaps you should spend some money and surround him with a good supporting cast, rather than simply making as much as you can off him without improving the team, and then whining when he leaves. Guys like Gilbert are jealous of the Lakers because it's a big market team, but that's not the reason the Lakers have been successfull, otherwise the Knicks would have a ton of championship rings as well. The Lakers have been successful because they are smart, because they are willing to take gambles and spend money when they have to, unlike Dan Gilbert. And no matter how much guys like Gilbert try to devise new ways to equalize the NBA, it's never going to happen, because smart teams like the Lakers will always dominate over dumb teams like the Cavaliers. When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
I think the Bulls could offer a better package. Noah, Taj or Asik, Deng and even a bobcats first round pick which will be in the top half of the draft as opposed to getting two late firsts from the Nets.I think I'd do option B... at least until the trade deadline. As a long suffering Net fan I'll believe this when it happens - just not used to superstars ASKING to come to the Nets! I don't know but being a Rockets fan I'm very happy for the ##### storm that ensued. The trade makes little sense for Houston. The saying goes "In Morey We Trust" but I'm a bit miffed about this one.P. Gasol

Wouldn't be so bad for Lakers if Houston is actually that nuts. Move Bynum and Odom for Howard.

Just saying what the hell are the Rockets thinking?
Noah is better than Brook but not by a ton IMO - GS pick will likely be in top half of the draft....also Nets take Hedo salary where Bulls dump Deng's awful contract onto Magic....I still think Nets deal is betterI think the Bulls could offer a better package. Well for starters, Chicago is an immediate title threat for this season if they add Dwight to Derrick Rose. I agree that Noah is better than Lopez...but enough to make up for takling on Deng and not dumping Hedo? Also IF the story is true and Howard will only sign with the Nets there is no way Bulls send that deal without a guarantee extension.Well for starters, Chicago is an immediate title threat for this season if they add Dwight to Derrick Rose. Battier was traded last season. I was thinking about it and reading on clutch fans and it started to make some sense. Gasol comes via trade....get nene...Bring the euro over next year. That's three guys over 6'10 a year after starting chuck Hayes at center. Gamble that bud and Morris and lee and Williams can pair with Lowry in the backcourt and you have a team that is intersting and tall. Do I love it? No. But scola and Martin are players good enough to make us .500. We weren't going to win the west - much less a ring - with Kevin Martin as our best player. People quickly forget how good gasol is. Yes, Kobe and Phil had a lot to do with that. But outside of Howard and horford, is there another center with that kind of offensive game and experience? No. Now we have to try and salvage a relationship with our two best players, guys not good enough to win a lot. Those knocking the Houston side of the failed deal...are you taking in account the likely frontcourt of Gasol AND Nene? Is the cupboard that bare after losing Martin, Scola, and Dragic (and Battier I suppose)? Just curious.

However this shakes out, I'm hoping it results in getting rid of Stern. What an annoying clown that guy is.
Although he's beyond clown now, probably moved into idiot savant territory.Ya forgot about Battier to Grizz.Lowry/FlynnLee/TWillPatterson/BudingerGasol/HillNene/ThabeetOr something like that. 2s/3s are a mix and match. Might be able to bring in another FA as well. And you mention the Euro (Donatas right?). I'd take it.Battier was traded last season. Now that would be a deal.Lakers would have a ton of money tied up for the next three years, but that's a much better team than they'd be left with in the CP3 trade.Very interested to see what happens. Actually, I think it's a bad deal for the Lakers, so I'm hoping it doesn't go through. I have no idea how you put the pieces back together with all the players (besides Paul) who were getting shipped out though, so I'm not happy about that or the sophomoric way the league is being "run."I know this is a short-term PR disaster, but it's easily worth it for the laughs at the expense of Lakers fans.
I am quite sure they would be laughing like the rest of the world if this happened to the Heat or the Celtics or the Knicks.
