*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (6 Viewers)

I really liked Chandler Parsons when he was with Florida. Watched him a couple of times and I think he's going to develop into a very good rotation player in the league. He reminds me of a more athletic Luke Walton/less athletic Lamar Odom. Fantasy players, keep your eye on him.

Bulls vs T-Wolves on NBATV tonight. Not only am I excited to see the Bulls, its a good chance to get a peak at the young talent on Minny.

3rd leg of the back-to-back-to-back for the Wolves. Probably going to get run out of the building...it's already started.
Wow, Rubio is gonna be a Star in this league. That was an amazing last 8 mins to end the half by the Wolves. Hopefully the Bulls can bring the energy in the second half.

If he can consistently hit the outside J, there's little question. He's a damn good PG already (surprising given all the negative press on him this offseason)Anyone else watching this game....Who the #### is Anthony RANDLE?!? (Other announcer really needs to let him know it's Randolph)

Seems like a good spot to finally dot this thread.

He has that natural master of changing pace that makes him extremely difficult to stay in front of defensively along with tremendous court vision. It was my first look and count me among the impressed.

He's better than Beasley.
Beasley is a 6th man at best. He's a pure 1-on-1 player that isn't good enough to be "the guy" with a 1st unit a good team.Wolves got to eventually move one of Derrick Williams or Beasley. Same player. Williams really presses when on the court right now.

Rubio / Love is a nice foundation. I think they need a sidekick for Rubio before they'll ever do much.

Yeah he looks out of place in Adelman's offense.

I am a homer but I absolutely love Iman Shumperts, game. Looking at draft from this year with all the stinkers so far I think he was under valued immensely.

what do non knicks fans think of Shump?

The Ws send another top east coast squad packing. You can't stop Dorrell Wright, you can only hope to contain him.

Did I hear Ernie Johnson right - the 76ers are 7-2 and atop the Atlantic? Kooky.

Defensively he can't stay in front of quicker guards, but he makes up for it by having very quick hands. Couple of times Rose blew by him, but Rubio knocked the ball away as Rose went by him. Wolves are a different team with him on the court because he really moves the ball around. Sadly that is a lost art in today's NBA.

I know it is a small sample size so far, but I'm not impressed by Williams. Too small for PF yet too big for SF. He has no inside game in NBA because he can't get his shot off and he's fallen in love with 3. One great example was last night when he had great post position and he chose to dribble all the way out to 3 pt line and hoist a 3.

He's not as good as I thought he'd be (thought he'd be able to mix it up down low more, but it is early still), but I think he'll be a Rashard Lewis-type in the league for a long time.

Now that I have seen that all things are possible, I expect the Wizards to win a basketball game tonight. Home against the Raptors- doesn't get much more friendly than that.

Gotta be. He never passes, never hustles- just waits to get the ball and then refuses to pass it unless he's doubled (and even then it's 50/50). And he's legitimately overweight. I'm a 38 year old married bureaucrat and he's a 25 year old professional basketball player and we have similar physiques. That's not good.Another thought- the condensed schedule blows. As an NBA consumer I really wish they'd gone with about ten fewer games. The Raptors clearly mailed it in after halftime, and you really can't blame them at all. Probably the right move- three in a row, two winnable home games with a road trip in the middle. Still, the NBA product is suffering.

Still, a win is a win, plus Vesely! Immediate fan favorite. He's like bizarro Blatche. Impossibly skinny white kid who hustles like crazy, plays team ball and attacks the rim.

Oh they definitely threw in the towel. Amazing what a difference playing the night before makes. Derozan had countless wide open jumpers and couldn't stick anything. Missing Bayless and Kleiza is (sadly) really hurting their depth. Tonight will be another #### show. Vesely looked pretty good. Quick and athletic but he didn't show much of an offensive game (I turned it off after 3 quarters). He's gonna need to pack on the pounds to be able to play inside. Looks like he'll be an excellent defender on PFs who play outside ie Bargnani, Dirk

He's now occupying my "young SF that might break out and do a little of everything, but will probably end up being worthless" slot. The previous resident was Jerebko.

:lmao: I know that slot. I've got Evan Turner manning that guard slot, Derrick Williams at that SF slot, and BJ Mullins at that center slot.

Let me preface this by saying that if the MVP vote was held right now, I'd vote LBJ. He's been phenomenal this season thus far.

But, HOW THE #### does he have 0 FGA in the 4th quarter last night? In a game against GS that goes to overtime? Let me repeat - ZERO field goal ATTEMPTS. I don't care if he was 0-4, or 0-6, or whatever, sometimes the shots don't fall. But how does he not even take one? That's controllable, and completely unacceptable.

He only played 6:33. Didn't watch the game but maybe he just wasn't forcing it? You know, there are guys in the league who won't jack up shots just because.1 for 3 in OT with 3 assists.

LeBron no showing in the 4th is the norm now. When he actually does something, that will be news. Some guys have it, others don't. Rewatch the 2010 NBA Finals, thats all you need to see.

Again, the guys is the runaway league MVP at this point - he's shooting 60% from the field and has generally been unstoppable all season. Perhaps he should have "forced it" once or twice.

The last game the Heat played that was close late prior to last night was on December 30. On the night LeBron had 34 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists*. His team won. On a quick count I've got him at 2-4 with an and-1 and three rebounds (assists not recorded on the play by play) after he entered the game with seven minutes remaining.*A few explanations for the Kobe fans: Rebounds are when someone else misses and you secure possession of the ball for your team. Assists are when you make a good pass to someone else and that person scores. And passes are when you voluntarily give up possession of the ball to a teammate in an attempt to secure a more high-percentage shot for your team. Most basketball experts have concluded that rebounds and assists are good things.

There has been speculation as to Kobe being on the decline. Given Tuesday's performance of an NBA-best 48 points this season, that could not be further from the truth. He is averaging more points, assists and rebounds per game than in any of his three previous seasons. In two of those seasons he was anything but on the decline, being named NBA Finals Most Valuable player.

There's data out there that suggests LeBron's is among the league leaders in least valuable assists. His patented "get the ball late in the shot clock and kick it to an open role player just before the clock expires" that is a win-win scenario for him while exonerating him from any responsibility is largely to blame.

Kobe had 5 boards, 3 assists, 3 steals last night. You probably should save your fishing for when his line is a bit more empty.

Great job by him on improving on his own stats! Let me know when he gets anywhere near the all-time greats that you guys like to compare him to, including LeBron. Especially on a per minute basis. And particularly in the ones that you can accumulate without starting with the ball already in your hands like rebounds and steals. You know, the ones that truly show effort and hustle and complete game instincts. How does he measure up?

Guys on the Laker pre-game radio program (and when I say guys, they have like 6-7 people covering the team on radio for pre-game) were talking about what might happen with Nash. The mentioned that Gentry said Nash would be staying put if the Suns are winning enough when the trade deadline comes around. One guy suggested Nash gets dealt to Toronto so he can finish his career in Canada. Everybody else figures he'll get dealt to a contender at some point. None of them made a real strong case for the Lakers, one threw out the Knicks as a potential destination but couldn't figure out what the Knicks would have to give up. Nobody else mentioned any specific teams. I thought the Toronto idea was interesting, but there seem to be too many reasons for it not to happen.

Why even acknowledge? He's attempting to use a 10 game sample vs 3 seasons. The kid isn't very bright.

The biggest reason being that it makes zero sense for Toronto to trade for him. Giving up anything of value for him would be useless since he would at best make them a borderline playoff team. The Suns are going to give him away for nothing.I could see him signing as an FA if he truly wants to finish his career in Canada and don't see why Toronto would say no to a one or two year deal.

Assists show more effort that scoring? LeBron SHOULD be a better rebounder than Kobe, based on sheer size, and the fact that LeBron plays forward - Kobe's a guard. And Kobe's playing with 2 of the top 5 centers in the game - does Miami even have a center?

The thought was (from the radio guy, not me) that Nash would be an attractive draw and improve attendance, better to get him now than let him hit the open market. I don't know what you deal (or what the Raptors have to deal) that would make it work out for both sides.

That's not what I said at all. Read it again. Also based on your logic, Kobe should have more steals than LeBron, since guards dominate that category. Assists, too. How's that working out?One guy was an elite scorer- one of the best ever. The other guy is an elite all-around basketball player- on his way to being one of the best ever. They are what they are. There's really not much argument to be had here.

Attendance isn't an issue in Toronto. Right now they're averaging 16K. A Monday-Thursday game vs a crap team might only draw 10-12K but pretty much every weekend game is a sellout. Any top team coming in is pretty near a sellout any night.I honestly can't think of anything Phoenix would want that Toronto would give up. No way they give up any 1st round picks. They wouldn't move any of the young players for him (Derozan, Davis, Amir, Valwhateverhisnameis) so unless Phoenix is enticed by something like Bayless, Barbosa and a 2nd rounder, it doesn't happen. Toronto won't take on any of the bad contracts in Frye, Warrick, Childress or Dudley which I assume Phoenix is going to want to package with Nash at the deadline.

Assists show more effort that scoring? LeBron SHOULD be a better rebounder than Kobe, based on sheer size, and the fact that LeBron plays forward - Kobe's a guard. And Kobe's playing with 2 of the top 5 centers in the game - does Miami even have a center?
Look who you're talking to. Please don't bring facts to the table with this group.

Younger Kobe gets that shot off. It's over, Laker fans.

:lmao: You're such a bitter minimum-wage worker. Kobe doll not putting out enough?
Obviously you two don't like each other - but that's beneath you Cappy. Carry on.
#### him. I haven't said #### to him in a year and he keeps biting at me like an annoying knat. He said something the other day and I ignored it, but he keeps at it. He should go back to making coffee or whatever it is he does.
How's your "girlfriend"? LOL, love that thread!

Why even acknowledge? He's attempting to use a 10 game sample vs 3 seasons. The kid isn't very bright.
"He's the best player in the game, so you come to expect that type of performance from him, if not regularly, then throughout the season at different times," Nash said. "He was phenomenal."
"If he don't care about his wrist, I don't care about his wrist," Frye said. "Everybody makes a big deal about it, but he's been scoring 28, 30 a game. So let's just call it what it is. He's a great player, he's the best individual player in basketball, and every night he comes to work. For us, we don't like losing to the Lakers. But they came out and played a good game, and he played an amazing game."
Keep it up, that hole is getting huge.

The Ws send another top east coast squad packing. You can't stop Dorrell Wright, you can only hope to contain him.Did I hear Ernie Johnson right - the 76ers are 7-2 and atop the Atlantic? Kooky.
76ers were number one in Hollinger's power rankings yesterday. They are crushing teams.
