*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (2 Viewers)

In related false Lakers fan bravado news, Lakersbro is up for the Sports GIF of the Year

I'm torn, but I think the random presence of Frank Robinson in front of the Lakersbros pushes it over the top. Also, the blond actress in the front row looks familiar.

What's with all the Lakers chat? Who cares, really?
You must have missed the past 8-10 pages Scott, where discussion of the Lakers not making the playoffs and Kobe being an awful defender dominated the thread.
Yeah, I don't get Scott's gripe here. The Lakers played in three of the last five Finals and they have at least three and possibly four Hall of Famers on their roster. They're a big story win or lose, regardless of the name on the jersey.

Looks like the decision to put Kobe on the opposing teams best backcourt player regardless of matchup is paying huge dividends. First he shut down Kyrie, now he's shutting down Jennings.
Is this actually happening?
IS KOBE SPENDING MOST OF HIS TIME DEFENDING THE OPPOSING TEAMS BEST BACKCOURT PLAYER?
 FU
I was asking because I honestly didn't know. Thanks.

Break up the Wiz tobias! Good shot at #4 tonight at Sac.
Beal is the big story of the "surge," such as it is. Shooting 55% from three in January, and he looks like a different player. I'm starting to get my hopes up with him just a bit. Also think maybe it helps that Jordan Crawford and his awful shot selection has been unavailable with sprained ankle. I often wondered what it would look like if Nick Young learned to pass but didn't change anything else about his game. The answer is Jordan Crawford.

Sorry Frost, I just didn't understand what part of the bold was ambiguous.

Hopefully Crawford will get healthy soon to ensure you guys don't win yourself out of the Nerlens derby. He would be a perfect fit with Wall and Beal, IMO.

I didn't know if he was actually guarding them pretty much all the time, or just here and there. Sounds like all the time. That's cool.

Most of the Wiz blogosphere seems to be hoping for either Noel or Anthony Bennett. I haven't been watching enough college action this year to say, but Noel does seem like a nice fit.

At Chicago looks real tough for them for a back to back. And Lakers are fortunate to get Miami on a night after they play GS. Im excited for that Miami game though. Both teams must be geared up for it. LA coming off a mini win streak and Miami looking to get back on track and show that they are still the champs.

Anyone else with League Pass have weird blackout issues? I live in Kansas City and for some reason all Denver games are blacked out (even the one last night that was on NBAtv) here. It's only been a minor inconvenience but tonight they play the Thunder and I just realized I won't be able to watch it. I really have no idea why those games are blacked out here, as far as I know there is no regional network that carries Nuggets' games in KC. So annoying.

Doc Rivers is up against his son tonight in Boston. I don't care what he says that has to be uncomfortable. At least now that Gordon is back Austin isn't playing very much.

Uncomfortable? It's not as if this is a boxing match. It's basketball. Probably a treat for both of them to go up against one another.

I always thought it was odd that NBATV games were blacked out (Blazers in Portland and Comcast has never come to deal with the sat providers) but I can watch the games on my computer so you could try that route. Really baffling why Denver would be regional in that case.

Did you try watching it on NBATV (channel 216 if you have DTV)? When a game is on NBATV they black out the team/League Pass broadcasts of the game and you have to watch in on NBATV.

Yeah, NBAtv was blacked out as well. Denver games are always blacked out for me no matter what through league pass. Last night I thought I'd be able to watch the game because it was on NBAtv but it was blacked out there too. Regularly scheduled national TV games are exempt from blackouts but Tuesday night is "Fan Night" where the game that NBAtv broadcasts is chosen through a fan vote, so I guess that doesn't count as a national TV game. Apparently the only way I can watch Denver this year is if they are on ESPN/ABC or TNT.

I don't think it would normally be uncomfortable. But I can see how it might be just a little weird in this situation, since a good coach's advice re: Austin would probably be something along the lines of "he's absolutely ####ing terrible, please try to get the ball in his hands as much as possible."

That's kind of what I was getting at with the last sentence.

Lets wait til the playoff seedings are made. Would be silly to make a bet now, as injuries/trades can still happen. I just don't see this Miami team being able to magically turn it on in the playoffs and beat the Bulls or Indy in round 2. This playing without a true big will come back to bite them. I don't think Bron can repeat what he did last playoffs.
So if there's no big trades/injuries to Miami, you're up for a wager? Or is it also dependent on them facing either Chicago or current #3 seed Indiana in Round 2? Are all bets off if they draw Brooklyn, Boston or New York in Round 2?Just trying to figure out exactly how far back you're walking your prediction.
If there are no big injuries or trades, I'd be willing to bet against Miami against NY, Indy, Boston and Chicago in round 2.

Tough to see a scenario in which they don't play one of those teams at some point, so I'm guessing you'll get your wish. I think you are crazy if you think the Knicks can beat the Heat in a playoff series. The others I think you can make a decent argument for at least. Indy has to be better on offense to have any chance, maybe when Granger gets back they'll have a shot at doing something. IMO they would have the best shot at pulling an upset.

Most if not all Nuggets games are shown on Altitude(DirecTV 681) here. Any chance that for some reason Altitude is somehow available there as well?

Bulls/Raps may have been the worst officiated game of the year (going both ways). And of course it culminates with Deng getting away with a blatant push off for the go ahead bucket and Johnson not getting a continuation call on the other end.

All Blazers games are blacked out here, even the ones on NBA tv. I think it's payback for the Payton era.

Miami looks like they will be resting in the 4th.

Lebron scores 25 in 30 minutes and is the youngest to score 20,000 points. He also had 10 assists and 7 rebounds. The consummate superstar team player.

Does being a great scorer mean scoring a lot of points, or scoring a lot of points efficiently? What makes a scorer great?Charles Barkley says Carmelo has always been and is still a better scorer than Lebron James, even though Lebron has more points and shoots a much higher percentage. How is this possible that Carmelo is better? Or is this just CB being CB?

I think being a great scorer is a combination of the two. Usage + efficiency.

I'd like to know why he thinks Carmelo is a better scorer than Durant as well. Melo might be capable of scoring in more ways than Durant but that doesn't mean he's a better scorer.

So Kobe is in his 17th season and has 30,000 points and 5600 assists. Whereas Lebron is in year 10 and has 20,000 points (youngest ever to reach that milestone) and already has over 5000 assists.

LeBron is a far, far better scorer than Melo ever will be. Durant >>> Melo. A great scorer scores efficiently and at a high volume.

Raise your hand if you don't think Kobe plans on playing until he is 50 so he not only gets the scoring record but also adds about 10,000 points to it so it's safely out of reach.

I don't agree with Barkley, but I'm guessing that his rationale is this...that if you need a bucket bad on one possession, Carmelo has greater ability to get/make a bucket than Lebron regardless of what the defense does. Melo's repertoire is a bit better than LeBron's, but I still think LeBron's physical skill is too great. I think in this scenario, Durant is the better "scorer" over them both, but over the course of a game, LeBron is more unstoppable.ETA: And obviously this is a completely subjective argument.

Lakers are -2 tonight. Heat's regulars sat for Q4 last night after demolishing GSW.
Down to 1.5 now. Really doesn't make sense to me that it started there. Pau is back and starting tonight, I'm not sure if that's a good thing for the Lakers or not.
