*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (4 Viewers)

Outside of maybe bayless, no one on Memphis had a good game last night and they were still close down the stretch. Too bad the second half didnt start until after midnight on the east coast.

Early foul trouble really seemed to throw the Grizzlies off their game. No real rhythm yesterday.

Yeah, Memphis needs to get something from Zbo but he was ineffective because of the foul situation.

Also watching. I really want the rockets to sign josh smith but west is having his way with him.
Smith has to be one of the most wildly inconsistent players of all time. I can't imagine him being a major piece of a championship team. He would need to be a 3rd or 4th best player, but he will get paid like a centerpiece.

Abe: Rockets would seemingly have to re-create themselves also, as Josh Smith simply can't shoot. The spread offense is one of their major strengths.

With Asik and Smith they would seem much more conventional.

This.

Someone is going to overpay this guy. "Looks at his stats. He's worth it!!" Would pay him less than what Ibaka got. Have a feeling he's gonna get $15+ mil/year.

I had no idea former Sonic benchwarmer Johan Petro was still in the NBA.

Reminiscing about the string of scrubby center projects the Sonics kept drafting and watching them never pan out.

I think that Smith will be properly paid. I really don't think he is going to end up with a $70 million contract, I think he'll end up getting something in the 4 year $50-55 million range, which I think is proper for a player of his talent.

If that's what he gets, I agree. I'm expecting him to get more, and I think he's a tough fit for a lot of teams.

Houston's biggest needs are a good outside defender and a four that can board and has some offensive game. If they both can shoot the three, even better. Problem is I don't think there are many of either available.

This.

Incredibly weak market with Paul/Howard unlikely to be going anywhere. I'm expecting $70+ mil.

Just takes one team. Two teams were willing to give Eric Gordon 4/58 with a bad wheel last offseason.

Yeah, the more I think about it, I'm not sure I would want to pay him ~$13MM a year. There is little doubt in my mind he will get that, but if I was running a team I would probably pass at that price. I don't know who all is out there, but it feels like there has to be a better value to be had. He can't shoot, he's bad from the line and can't handle the ball. His defensive value is as a help defender but he doesn't seem to have great 1:1 ability when I watch him. I can't imagine he will improve after this long in the league and his game seems like it would age poorly since its based on athleticism only.If I had to pay him for more than a few years I would be afraid of getting into a Gerald Wallace type situation. Perhaps a team like Cleveland would be a fit?

Doesn't look good. The Lakers are not playing the inside ball game they have in the last few- that's probably due to the Spurs' great defense.

If LAL isn't going to seriously punish SA for guarding Pau and Howard with Bonner for long stretches, it's going to be a short series.

I used to loathe him. Then three years ago I went to a spurs and focused on him the way I might focus on line play during an nfl game recap. Dude is never out of position and never makes bone head mistakes. Really something to watch.

His demeanor seems to have changed as well. I really remember him crying about calls a lot a few seasons ago.

Spurs ball movement is amazing to watch. Just comparing to LA's (even when Kobe's not on the floor) is laughable.

Other than cutting down on the TO's, really don't know if you can expect much more from the Lakers that what they gave today. Spurs only shot 37.6% and this game wasn't very close.

There is a part of me that hopes the lakers win the title so the press can go nuts about Kobe having as many rings as Michael while Kobe stews inside. :lmao:

I wish the Bucks would have gone for rebuilding. Instead Herb plays for a first round exit year after year. Also, I can't wait to see Jennings and Ellis both gone.

The Heat are not even close to pouring it on, Battier missed everything tonight, Wade only had about 12 points going into the 4th...this team though gets about 25/8/7 a night form Lebron, sometimes he makes a true triple double but he is as close as can be most nights. It just seems effortless at times.

Tim Duncan is still underrated.
He is the most humble player. He is quiet. I think this is why he is under the radar. Other good players draw attention to themselves. Timmy is just doing his job and doesn't talk much.
Timmy never shuts up and is always telling everyone his opinion on everything.
This is about the stupidest thing I've seen in this thread. When does Duncan EVER talk? He only gives interviews when the league forces him too. This sounds like a seriouss case of sour grapes (for whatever reason).

I thought it was a joke involving another Timmy.

I'm a big Spurs fan (as well as Miami) and all the interviews I have seen with him, he only answers what is asked. I would love to see anything that would indicate that he's a big talker and opinionated.
