Only Silver Lining is that Nets will now get a real coach next year and fire that tool PJ.
Kerr keeps saying how great a job PJ did, he actually didnt do anything different than Avery, he played Evans way to much and the fans hated him, good riddance. This team needs one more piece to contend next year. I dont think its the end of the world they lost, they were losing in 4 or 5 to Miami either way, at least we get rid of this turd coach, cause they probably keep him if they advance.
They had to play Evans because he's their only competent rebounder. There are some serious flaws in how this team was put together and they don't have much, if any, flexibility to improve. They can look forward to a couple more years of 4-5 seed finishes and first round playoff exits. On the positive side, there are a lot of franchises that would be happy with that (and given the Nets' history, you'd think they would be one of them).
This is where you and PJ were wrong. Evans has elite rebounding skills, we get that, but he is such a negative on the offensive side of the floor and such a horrible defender that they didnt warrant that much playing time to Blatche and Humps extent. Lopez has always had rebound dominant PF's like Evans and Hump smooching up the rebounds that he would get, I have watched him enough to see that he is capable of getting 8+ rebounds a game (as i believe he did in the playoffs)
Evans has been in the league a long time and never was more than a 10 mins a game player for the most part, under PJ he was getting 25-33 mins a night, that was insane and I almost couldnt watch the games simply because he was such a detriment to the team. On offense his guy never guards him at all, thus clogging up the lanes for everyone else and ruining any spacing.
I agree that they shouldn't have played Evans that much, Kris Humphries is a very good rebounder (not anywhere near Evans, but still a top 10 rebounder at PF in the league) and would have picked up much of the slack from Lopez and offers some offensive game.
As for Evans, for his career he has never averaged 10 mpg in a season and this season was the 6th in which he averaged at least 20 mpg (he averaged 24.6 mpg this season). He should have a solid place in the Nets rotation, just probably closer to 15 mpg rather than 25.
Evans was barely getting much run under Avery for the first 20 games, under PJ his number was way higher than the 24 mins i believe. Blatch averaged like 18 mins a game. HOW THE F does that make sense? I know I am venting here, but my god, how can this idiot coach not have seen that more Blatche, less Evans was a better thing for the team?
Nets had a solid complement of players who had talent wasting away on the bench such as Marshawn Brooks, Teletovic, and this other Euro player who looked good in a few spurts of action. He would never adjust at all. JJ obviously was banged up and didnt have it last night, how about subbing in an effective Brooks to play a little more since this is a do or die game?
I know this would create drama since round one was filled with that, but I believe Jerry Sloan would be an awesome fit with this team.
I think him and Deron's issues were overblown and he had fights with management more than personal issues with Deron in Utah.
