Although Rose's statline wasn't impressive (5-12 for 13 points, 3 assists, 4 TOs) and he was clearly rusty, his speed seemed back. He's also apparently has added five inches to his vertical. Out of those 12 shots, I think only one was from the outside and that was an end of the shot clock heave. I was concerned that post-injury he'd start relying on his outside shot, but he didn't seem shy about penetrating at all. Nice start all things considered. If the Bulls stay healthy, they are certainly a contender.

I've never found any of them personally compelling, but listening to any of them talk shop is pretty fascinating.

He exploded to the rim multiple times and the drive miss and quick jump to tap it in alleviated any of my concerns. It is all about getting into game shape now.
I have almost zero faith the Bulls will be close to full strength for the playoffs so I can't even talk about what they are capable of doing if they are.

Even one rotation player down (besides Rose and perhaps Noah), I think they could compete with the best.

I would hope that a by-product of the additional time off is that he's fully ready to go and not worried about cutting on the knee. Not to pile on, but it's not like he's rushing back from this. Agreed that they are contenders - he's just a bit of an upgrade on Nate Rob.

Honestly, I'm not sure where his 37 is coming from. At his draft combine he tested 34.5 for no-step vertical and 40.0 max vertical. He was only 19 at the time and it's not surprising he'd be better as he got into his 20s. The main point is he doesn't appear to have lost his athleticism like many others have after ACL tears. I was in "wait and see" mode when it came to his prospects post-surgery but now I'll 100% on board as a fan-boy.

I can't believe that. Magic Johnson is one of the most iconic basketball players of all time and is a billionaire. Bill Simmons is popular, but espn is not going to let him be the big dog in all that.

No one on this forum loves Magic more than I do, but if I was running a network's basketball coverage show, I'd put Simmons behind the wheel instead of Magic. Simmons has proven to be brilliant at spotting talent and giving viewers what they want.

ESPN's NBA panel shows have always been poor. I think the table has generally been too crowded. It's too many guys yelling about random stuff and laughing at each other's jokes. It's hard to break down a half of basketball in a couple of short segments because the game doesn't lend itself to being summarized in a handful of highlights. TNT errs on the side of entertainment which is probably the best way to play it.

It's probably good for the overcrowded stage problem. Simmons has long made fun of the overcrowded analyst desk.
With Wilbon and Magic out, and Burke and Collins in, it's already heading into a better direction.

Stop with this sentiment that Simmons was behind Magic leaving. If that was the case Simmons would let it be instead he has gone out of his way to say it's not the case. I really like Simmons. But he barely gets PTI gigs and to think that he is the shot-caller with regards to the on-air talent is laughable.

I kind of agree, even though I find Jalen unwatchable and skip ahead through his inane feature segment every time. I found Magic to be incredibly dull. ESPN made the right move IMHO.
Others have stated, but he did little more than state the obvious. As legendary as the guy is, he's not going to want to make you tune in on regular basis. I think he's better left to making a cameo appearance here and there.

Cousins is the better talent, but I would rather have Favors for equivalent money.
$12M/yr for a starting center is probably pretty close to the going rate. That's McGee/Pekovic/Nene money. Cousins at $15M is more like Gasol/Chandler/Lopez money.
Not saying Favors is overpaid. We live in a world where McGee makes 10m. But would rather pay a slight premium for franchise player upside, even if he's nuts.

Everyone figured that they would be super conservative with his rehab, especially since they don't care about winning games. It is a surprise that they would officially shut him down, especially since Andrews is saying good things. Tank mode is really in full effect.

If Favors hits his ceiling, he's a nightly 20/10 threat who also becomes one of the premiere paint lockdown guys in the NBA, against 4's or 5's. If Boogie hits his, he's a nightly 20/10 threat with occasional 30+ outbursts who's useless on D. I'd rather have the guy who has the potential to play at an allstar level both ways, and Favors is already the only one who does it pretty much every night on at least one end of the court.

Is it easier to teach a big man to play elite defense or elite offense and what's more valuable, because that's what it is with Cousins and Favors?
