*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (5 Viewers)

Why don't we just let it happen and then comment on it, like we used to do on trades back in the old days.
The Portland Trail Blazers have been identified as the 'Wild Card' team in on a trade for Omer Asik, a league source told RealGM's Andrew Perna. The Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers are also pursuing a trade with the Houston Rockets for Asik, according to a report on Tuesday by Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski. Wojnarowski added that there was an unidentified 'Wild Card' team. RealGM

Seems like you guys are right and no one wants Asik.
Asik would be great on a lot of teams, I'm just not seeing how the teams rumored to be interested would materially benefit.
Or why they'd give up anything of value for a guy forcing his way out of town. Morey's self-imposed deadline was a pretty dumb move IMO.
We shall see. The 2/19 deadline means he can be traded again by whoever acquires him, which could be useful.

That certainly doesn't out-weigh the bargaining power he's given up. Can't see any team hoping to flip him at the deadline.

Complaint 4: The Celtics would be giving up too much: This part remains to be seen until we know the parameters of any deal. This armchair general manager is a lot more comfortable giving up a package starting with Bass and a first-round pick than including Jeff Green (but it’s not a deal-breaker). Let’s say Boston tosses in the Clippers’ 2015 first-round pick (the one obtained as compensation for Doc Rivers). That’s likely going to be a late first-round pick. It could be JaJuan Johnson or J.R. Giddens. No one should lose sleep over a pick like that. And, ultimately, the Celtics have to decide soon who their future building blocks are. At the frontcourt positions, that’s more likely to be guys like Sullinger, Faverani, and Kelly Olynyk than Bass. If forced to move Green or Courtney Lee, it aids Boston by eliminating money committed long term.

So, like half the league has been rumored as an Asik trade possibility?
Sounds like it's pretty much the Celts according to twitterdorks.

'If Houston's goal is to repackage Bass and/or Lee in future trade before deadline, not very viable. "No one wants them," one exec said."

Bass and Lee could both get minutes and contribute. The PF slot is basically Jones and Casppi...Bass could provide a more conventional PF with experience. Lee could step in as backup SG since Harden is missing time to injuries and the current backup is a Lin/Bev combo.

I think Bass is a pretty good player. Supposedly doesn't get along the best with D12, but who does? Him and a late first is probably fair value for supermegadefensivesuperstarAsik. Taking on Lee kind of sucks, but whatareyagonnado?

In other news, it's time for OTTOMATIC:

Wizards rookie Otto Porter, finally healthy after a long absence with a hip flexor, is out here warming up pregame.

So, is anyone interested in the Pacers/Heat matchup tonight or are we going to spend 3 more pages discussing a Houston reserve? ;)

Would be more interested if the Rockets were trading Asik for Granger and a 1 before the 8:30 tip against the Bulls.
Why would the Pacers give up both for Asik? If Granger holds no current trade value, I'd let him play and go from there.
Because Morey is a witch.

Olnyk is better suited at the 4 I suppose. Although he can't keep up with the athletic PFs. Faverani seems more like a 15-20 min a night guy than a 30 min a night guy, IMO

Joey Crawford was looking right at LeFlop step out of bounds on the steal in the 3rd and let's him go. Just disgraceful officiating these days.

Whatever fits the narrative!

Wasn't there some stat that surfaced last year that Lebron's team wins some absurd percentage of games Crawford officiates?

Morey will not leu Asik go for cheap. It will cost a few picks or a underrated stud like the Harden deal. Hou has no reason to take anything. Asik is still under contract.
