*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (8 Viewers)

What a great foundation set by the Nets. Future is real bright with youth, cap space, tons of draft picks and a great head coach all on their side.

the NBA is full of all kinds of problems.. but at least it's looking like the final 4 will be the proper teams that belong after there were some serious scares in round 1.

No league does as good of a job at eliminating upsets as the NBA
We shouldn't even have a first or second round... Straight to the conference finals after the regular season.AMIRITE?
i think 8 teams should make the playoffs. 1 large conference
To hell with that. Just skip the playoffs altogether and award the championship to the team that finishes with the best record, right?
One of, if not the most successful league in the world agrees with you. America does sports wrong. No playoffs, inter-season cup and relegation is infinitely better.
Which league is that? I imagine the most watched soccer games are champions league matches (besides World Cup/Euro) which aren't associated with any individual league and look a lot more like American sports with the best team not always winning. Soccer leagues are more fair but apart from the Man City win on the last day are largely boring by the end. I think its pretty difficult to say that America does sports wrong with an event like the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl is your defense? Watching 9-7 teams win rings had greatly deteriorated my interest in the NFL. That is the worst way to crown a champion of all time.

I love that Golden State fired one former tv announcer who had never coached just to turn around and hire.....another tv announced who has never coached.
While he doesn't have coaching experience Kerr was a GM and you can tell from his analysis he understands today's NBA.

Wait, so he has no coaching experience, but he still understands today's NBA? Am I reading this right?
I think i am missing something here. Maybe someone can clarify?
I would be happy to.

Once more, because I still can't believe it:

The Nets CHOSE this side of the bracket. They could have had the Bulls and the Pacers and they chose the Raptors and the Heat instead. The Wizards, who gladly took their place as the 5 seed, won the first series in 5 games, have a Game 6 at home tonight, and would have a 3-2 series lead had they not blown a 19 point second half lead earlier in the series. The Nets are better than the Wizards.

What is wrong with that front office?

I feel like maybe it was more of a Jason Kidd decision, although I'm sure he ran it by his bosses too.

So weird.

Someone forgot to tell them a 4-0 regular season record means absolutely nothing vs a team like The Heat in the post season.

On to.......Mmmmm I don't know. If The Wizards win tonight.....they have a wonderful chance to close out Indiana on the road. The Pacers have looked dreadful at home this post season. It would not surprise me if the Wizards actually pull off a series win down 3-1.

And even if a 4-0 regular season record meant something generally speaking, in this case the 4 wins were by a total of 3 points in regulation (3 one points wins, 1 OT win) over a team that was usually resting one or more starters. I can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to think that has some sort of predictive value.

Well funny enough the talking heads kept pointing to that....and felt New Jersey would give the Heat a long tough fought series.

Make no mistake.....The Nets did not play bad....but in crunch time when The Heat absolutely needed multiple stops......they delivered. This is why they are that good. Their defense is a cornerstone to this historic run.

It is why it will be a rematch of last season. Spurs and Heat. The two best defensive teams in the post season. Also the best coached teams to boot.

Best defensive teams according to who? Todem?
Yeah.......ok. Watch them play.

When it counts....those two teams defend at a championship level. I guess when they both advance to the Finals again......it's not because they are great defensive teams, get stops when absolutely needed etc etc etc.

Sports.......yeah it's subjective....stat's can and do lie sometimes. The Heat are a lousy rebounding team........yet they keep winning. The Heat can't match-up against big teams......yet they keep winning. they have not defended the three really well this season.....yet they keep winning.

Why?

They cause chaos on defense, create easy break away baskets and at anytime can seemingly turn an 8-10 point deficit into a 3 point lead,......in crunch time.....when it counts.....to win games. And yeah it helps to have the best player on the planet.

So keep telling yourself they are not one of the top defensive teams in the league. Because all they seem to do......is win. All they seem to do is get stops.....multiple stops when it is absolutely needed. Been going on since the Big Three got together. Gee maybe this guy Pat Riley's way has rubbed off on this franchise....tough hard nosed defense and hustle plays and a relentless will to win. That may have something to do with this franchises success ever since Riley arrived and now also Spolstra continues to coach and preach.

Gotta tell ya Eric Spolstra......no one talks about the incredible job this guy has done. He is fast becoming an elite coach in this league. After year one when they got off to that .500 start through 21 games and everyone was calling for the guys head.......been silent ever since.

CurlyNight.
Are we really calling Spoelstra a top 2 coach? I cant wait to see how he does when Lebron is gone.

Doc and Thibs are better coaches than Spoelstra. Pops is obviously the best.
If you define "we" as CurlyNight and Todem, then yes, "we" likely are calling them the best two coaches.

I certainly don't put Spoelstra as the 2nd best coach in the league.

Yeah would love to see what Phil would have done without Jordan, Pippen, Kobe, Shaq.

Give me a freaking break.

Riley......without Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Ewing, Zo, Wade et etc etc.

Pop without Duncan, Robinson, Parker

Doc without Garnett, Allen, Pierce, now CP, Griffin......

WTF are you talking about?

If the guy guides a team to 3 straight titles........your not considering him one of the top coaches in the league?

Get real.

Not saying he is top 2 right now.......but top 5......certainly proving it year after year now.

Carlisle is the second best coach in the league IMO.

Lebron made Mike Brown look good...simple as that.

Top 5, yea I could maybe see that. But earlier you said "Also the best coached teams to boot" meaning pops and Spo were the top 2 coaches in the league. I don't think so.

Let me clarify....left in the post season. I should have said that.

My bad.

I think those that feel it is correlation for Spo.....are really off on that assessment. This guy is the real deal when it comes to great young head coaches in this league. Time will prove that IMO.

I like Spoelstra and agree that he doesn't get enough credit, but maybe you should also keep in mind that Mike Brown got a team with a less efficient LeBron James + no Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh to the Finals. Mike Brown. The dude who is currently being paid by two different franchises to not coach.

Speaking of underrated, Bosh fits the bill. I would love to see the Big Three go their separate ways and see Bosh on the Wiz. He's a perfect fit.
