If this is really an 8-player draft, 5 and 9 gives them a shot at 2 of them when some stupid team takes Buckets in the top 8.

I wonder exactly what Utah would be willing to give as far as future picks (taking CHA out of the equation).
Seems like MIL could find a way to really fleece them here.
What if Utah offered the #5 (#35 too if MIL wants it), along with unprotected 1sts in 2015 and 2017? Take Mayo's contract too. MIL say no to that?

Go look at the last couple NBA drafts.

If they dont get the #1 overall in those drafts, it just isnt worth it.
The Utah #5 this year is likely worth way more then two future #1s, because you have good talent this year.
Its so good, that you are willing to ship the #5 in a deep draft and two more 1st rounders to get at these 3 elite prospects.

The 2017 pick could be nice. Klay could be gone by then. They could be a Curry and/or Bogut injury from being really horrible in the West.
This the Warriors. They're are feeling so good about themselves that they just fired a coach after a 51 win season. Disaster is probably around the corner.

I think a PHI-Utah deal could make all kinds of sense, but you guys are forgetting something with that particular deal.....Hornets would want some sort of compensation for the #9 pick.

If there's a franchise that's dumb enough NOT to trade Love, it's MIN. This is a fine spot for them. The star said he's walking in 12 months. It just so happens that it coincides with a really good draft. They could really re-tool here and pick up some pieces to really start rebuilding around.
If I'm Joeger, and the MIN front office tells me they don't plan on trading Love, I'm out.
It probably doesn't mean much on the Love front either way though.

I was looking at the overall prospect grades at nbadraft.net and it's nuts.
CHA's pick at #9 is so wide open. There will be 16 prospects available at #9 (assuming Gordon or Buckets goes #8 after the big 7) that have a grade between 92-95.
It's a near certainty that a couple players they consider at #9 will still be available at #24. It's also very likely that the guy they take #24 has a higher grade than whoever they take at #9. They are looking at a handful of guys with a 92 grade at #9 (Stauskas, Gordon/Buckets, Young), and a handful of 93's will be available much later (Ennis, Warren, Early, Robinson, Napier, Anderson, Payton with a 94 grade).
Obviously, those grades are far from gospel and the actual draft surely will look far different than mocks, but clearly, they are seeing a massive number of guys of similar quality.

In order to move up into the top 10, it takes a lot more than just a couple mid to late teen picks. This draft seems to have two main tiers that take you to about pick 10. A few teams may have a couple different guys in the bottom of that second tier, but pick 14/16/19, etc. are in a whole different stratosphere.

Maybe, but I'm not so sure those 1st 2 tiers don't stop at Pick 7 with the downgrade from 9 to 16 or so not being incredibly steep.
I'm not terribly excited about Gordon. I could get behind Stauskas, but there's no doubt he's going to be an atrocious defender.
I think I'd rather have Young or Hood at 14 than Stauskas at 9 if it meant getting the 27 and that Lakers pick. Who knows what happens with the Lakers pick, but they need something pretty big to happen for it not to be a lottery pick. Hell, Stauskas could even be there at 14.
