A month ago if I asked 'Would you be happy going into next season with Lebron, Love, and Kyrie?' what would your answer have been?

The only way I'm truly disappointed is if we give up Bennett or Waiters and a 1st with Wiggins.

I'd like to play hardball a while longer, even into Dec/Jan, but either way it's hard to fault what the Cavs do.

Some questions that arose in my mind reading the last few pages:

1. Is tanking actually a bad thing for the league?

2. Is parity actually a good thing? E.g. Baseball doesn't really have a ton of parity...and yet the MLB seems to be doing fine and has for a looooooong time.

1. Tanking hurts the on-court product and reduces the value consumers feel they get viewing the on-court product, especially those who bought a ticket to attend the game in person. Tanking probably helps year-round interest in the league, increasing interest in the draft and other offseason acquisitions, keeping the NBA in the sports news cycle when the league isn't staging games.

2. A lack of competitive balance hurts long-run broad interest in the product. What the NFL calls parity is IMO as much a function of the small sample size of a 16-game season compared to 80+ in NBA/NHL and 162 in MLB as measures to keep teams even.

1. I think the underlined portion is key. I think a couple teams tanking is good for league popularity and revenue overall.

2. I am fairly certain I disagree with the bolded. Was there a lack of balance in the 80s when the NBA exploded? What about in the 90s when it was all about the Bulls? What about the early 2000s, when it was really only a couple teams at the top for a few years and great story lines as other teams attempted to dethrone them? Has the league's interest declined since Miami added the Big 3 and went 4 for 4 on making the Finals?

Yep, and there's not a lot of dead contract weight on Cleveland's books. Varejao is the quickest way to make salaries match but they're not trading LeBron's buddy. So it will have to come from Thompson/Bennett/Waiters.

I think if Okafor was going to be healthy next year, he would have been picked up by now. If Okafor is healthy, hes by far their best option. Brand is still a nice player for 15 minutes a night, which would be helpful on a minimum contract. Jermaine O'Neal is still decent, and the Cavs could just hope his 40 games he misses next year don't line up with Varejao's. Stiemsma would be a decent pickup on a minimum contract, but hes more like a 6th big than a 4th or 5th. There aren't many bigs that you would even want stepping on the court in desperate situations left to be picked up.

More importantly, they have nobody to play center if he doesn't, and they don't really have the means to acquire somebody that can play center.

Neither am I, and the fact that you seem to think that's my goal indicates you didn't read very closely. Your bolded sentence is, "A lack of competitive balance hurts long-run broad interest in the product."

I completely disagree. The examples I brought up were to say that a lack of competitive balance absolutely did not hurt long run interest, but rather seems to have the opposite effect.
