*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (10 Viewers)

My brother and I were having a discussion and we somehow ended up trying to name the NBA players we'd be the least surprised if they died one night due to something off the court. Our list, in no order: Cousins, Bird Man, Brandon Jennings, Stephen Jackson (if he's still in the NBA), and J.R. Smith.
I want to play:

JaVale McGee

Channing Frye (cheating)

Sebastian Telfair

Josh Smith

OJ Mayo

Larry Sanders (in the same incident)

Kendrick Perkins

Lance Stephenson

Curry is just ####### bonkers. GB him.
Loved Kerr afterwards, too.

"I was thinking, 'Don't call timeout.' Steph Curry in the open court is going to get a better shot than anything we would be able to draw up."
Kerr is proving to be such a good hire. he's a player's coach to be sure but he's also cagey enough to have a system. i am really looking forward to see how he does in a playoff series. the adjustments that have to be made over a series are what seperate the good ones from great ones.

Can we get a Mavs mention in the thread title after their 2OT win at the Bulls?

What does a team have to do to earn a little respect?

Mavs game was amazing. Monta Ellis was amazing.

Best thing ever that the Warriors sent him to the dumpster fire of a basketball team that was Milwaukee so that he could opt out, then take less money to play for a real team with a real coach in Dallas.

As an aside: I can't seem to figure out when it is ok to get a defender in the air and then jump into him and when it isn't. Seems totally arbitrary when there are calls and when there are not.
When they shouldn't be called: see Parsons & Mirotic last night.

Was comical watching Parsons trying to draw that. Mirotic lands vertically 3 feet away from Parsons shooting a set jumpshot....Parsons then just leans in that distance trying to draw. About as bad of attempt to get a call as you'll see.

It's ridiculous. There's such a simple fix, too- verticality. If you pump-fake and the defender leaves his feet, you are only permitted to jump straight up to shoot and absorb the contact. Otherwise it's a no-call.

I'd buy that if it wasn't exactly what gets called a decent amount of time.

Yeah mentioned it during the game. Was a great no call. Mirotic was vertical when he landed off the pump fake at few feet in front of and Parsons had to duck in so far to try to draw contact he was the one that wound up completely offbalance.

Still can't believe Hinrich waited that long to foul Ellis.

Hinrich only got the chance to foul because Ellis let him, it looked like. Hinrich was one step slow on the inbounds and was never gonna catch him.

If it wasn't for Phil Jackson doubt the Knicks are even considered.

Again, I wish I wasn't lazy so I could sift through the posts that were calling the Dubs crazy for dumping Jackson. I told you guys last year the offense was holding the Dubs back and that has proven to be the case.

Now we just need to stay healthy.

Grizzlies 4.5pt favorites at Houston.
Last trip the Grizz won by nearly 30.

Surely the Rockets get up for this game after the spanking they got last time, right?

he pretty much died, but if anyone noticed, amare stoudamire has played 37 minutes in each of his last 2 games; 11/30 and 12/2. he seems to score and rebound. i give him a lot of credit, he has the money and could've just sat this one out, but it seems he actually likes playing and has tried to get back to being healthy. maybe its cause he a FA again, but he could be useful for someone.

Are you happy that he's a member of the Tribe now?

Warriors have been called Dubs for a long time now, guess it's still new to people outside the bay area and only relevant cause Golden State is doing so well.

Curious for the folks who find it annoying, what would be a better way to reference the team? Or would you prefer to call them the "Warriors" every time you refer to them?

Dubs seems pretty simple and distinct to me.

I don't say or write that word. In print it's GS or GSW, if I say it out loud it's "Warriors."

God sent us Steph Curry, the least you can do is pronounce a couple extra syllables.

Yup, I'd feel better about calling GS a contender if Bogut had played more than 111 games the last 3 years combined.

You could call them by their actual name like every other team does.

Wiz is not Ok. Griz is not OK either. "Jizzlies" is acceptable because it's funny. The rest I can take or leave.

I'll give you Cavs and Mavs. I would submit the remainder are not used by their fans EVERY time they referred to their team like you guys do with dubs.

Yep, I am not a huge basketball fan, but have tuned into a few games this year. The biggest difference that I immediately notice versus the games I saw last year is the movement off the ball. No more standing around when on offense and it's made for a much more entertaining style.

i always call the bucks the bizucks or the bees or last year i called them those bums that suck at basketball take that to the bank bromigos

You guys give your team a lame name, then whine that it's too many syllables?

Yeahhh.... NO.

1) Having lived in memphis and boston I can attest that the celtics are referred to as celts on occasion, but more often than not it's celtics. Here in Memphis, Grizzlies are called Grizz very sparingly.... Some of you kids in here act like you're paid a nickel every time you use the word Dubs.

2) In both cases (and most of the above) it's simply using a shortened version of one syllable of the name. The homos responsible for "Dubs" seem to have channeled their inner Dbag to find the lamest possible approximation of the name that isn't, by the way, a simple shortening of the actual name. It reeks of Drakkar and trying too hard.

Hmmm...I didn't know I get to name the team, I didn't get that memo. Always thought it was the owners that got to do that. Anyways, I'm not complaining about the number of syllables, I was just responding to the folks bugged by the Dubs reference.

I reference the team by Warriors but on occasion I do say Dubs. I guess cause the Dubs reference is phonetic instead of just a shortened version of the name is what bugs people?

Seems that it's common for teams with multiple syllables to reference their team in a shorter way. Wars makes no sense. Any other good options? Let's use the power of the FFA for good and come up with an alternative to Dubs. We'll go to twitter to make it happen!

The ones that are healthy, sure.
[G] 12/02/2014 - Isaiah Canaan expected to miss Wednesday vs. Memphis ( Ankle )[G] 12/02/2014 - Patrick Beverley expected to miss Wednesday vs. Memphis ( Hamstring )

[C] 12/02/2014 - Dwight Howard doubtful Wednesday vs. Memphis ( Knee )

[F] 11/15/2014 - Terrence Jones out indefinitely ( Leg )
Bah.... 1/2u on MEM -4.5

To hear both sides, the Warriors official Twitter feed, Curry, Barbosa, and Speights all used "Dubs" in tweets last night.
