*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (2 Viewers)

I watch no college basketball so I have usually have no opinions on the draft. I call it a good draft if the Dubs seem to have drafted BPA over need and they don't pick a white guy.

Regarding the Curry draft, I know Don Nelson pushed and raved about Curry pre-draft as the next Steve Nash so I was fine with the pick. So far Nellie has proven to be 100% correct.

Kahn drafting two PG's ahead of Curry was a thing at the time.

Curry is just ####### bonkers. GB him.
The most I've been wrong about a player going from college to NBA ever, and it's not even close.
Same here. I still feel guilty about even doubting him.
I live blogged that draft on my dumb little blog, and when the Wolves took Flynn I actually wrote, "Oh thank god, Flynn is the pick."

Oops.
Flynn is probably the player I've been most wrong about. I thought he was going to be great. Looking at that draft he was probably the worst player in the top 20.

No reason to stop at 20.

Yeah if you go by win shares he's the worst player period.

brohans i knew curry was going to be good and have rooted for him ever since he obliterated wisconsin in the ncaa it was a hard game to watch he was on fire we could not stop him and i said to myself that guy is going to make a name for himself and hey then he did the worst wrong i have ever been was about joe alexander when the bucks took him i was one of the only guys around who said he would turn out to be great but hey not so much i think i saw him working for greenfield mowing median strips this summer take that to the bank bromigos

Hawks with a decent road win against the Heat. I've learned not to get my hopes up so my enthusiasm is tempered but I think they can challenge the Wizards for the division.
Our defense was offensive. We better get it together defensively or it will be a long season. When we would score 100 plus...it always almost meant victory. Not so thus far this season. I am not near panic mode yet...but I am resigned to the fact we are a .500 team and have little depth. We need to stay healthy. And that has already been a challenge. Wade needs to get his defensive game going or we are in big trouble.

Here's hoping to peaking later in the season going into the playoffs. 37 wins will get you in the dance in the East this year. The Heat can and should win 42-47 games. In perfect world 50 games. They are better than this IMO. Not a lot better...but better than this.

I'm not sure about this. I think all eight playoff teams in the East will end up with 40+ wins. The current top 5 + Miami are pretty much locks, assuming Wade plays 60+ games. Nets should stay around .500 too. I don't really like anyone else to get there when you look at them individually, but collectively there's a decent chance someone will prove me wrong. Either the Hornets will somehow get it together, or Vogel will keep coaching his ### off in Indy, or the Bucks will avoid a dropoff after their surprise start, or something else unexpected will happen.

The only team that looks out of place right now are the Bucks. The other 7 were all pretty much a given before the season with just the 8th seed up for grabs. I wouldn't be shocked to see the 8th seed being around 37-38 wins. The point differentials are pretty terrible for the teams 6+ right now and most of those rosters are paper thin.

Aside from going to most home Raps games, I havent followed the NBA much (love the Raps, dont love the league)

Saw Wiggins got Rook of the month... Hows he playing? Stats mean nothing to me without context

so i watch the bucks a lot and have for years they have really stunk and i mean big time for the last five or so but they are looking pretty good and actually look like they have some upside look fact is they lost to two really good teams in the cavs and mavs the last two games by 3 and then 2 points right at the wire in both games and i am probably jinxing it but they have a shot to stay at the six if they keep it up and learn to finish games out they have been up in both of the last two and could not hold it down the stretch they are young athletic and long and hey parker he is coming brohans so get ready take that to the bank

Did anyone else know that the Sixers' D League team is called the 87ers? I mean, that's just awful.
In fairness, the team plays in Delaware and Delaware became the first state to ratify the U.S. constitution in 1787 so the name isn't as random as it may seem.

On paper it makes sense but it's still pretty awful. Much like the Sixers themselves.

Not very good. He disappears on offense for large stretches, needs to add strength so that he doesn't get overpowered when playing defense, doesn't get good positioning for rebounds. Things will get better for him and everyone else when Rubio comes back but it's going to take a while for his game to come together. He needs to work on pretty much everything.

given the wretched quality of the Eastern Conference, they could be a 6 seed by end of season.

new slogan for the 6ers: forget everything you've heard to this point! we're better than the Knicks!!

The Wolves are hideous.
Starters Ricky Rubio (ankle), Nikola Pekovic (foot, wrist), Kevin Martin (wrist) and Thad Young (death of his mother) all missing extended time has just completely devastated the team. They started out 2-2, and those two losses to Memphis and Chicago were by a combined five points! But then the injuries started. And if there's another team in the NBA that has lost more starter games to injury so far in 2014-15, I'd like to see it.

If it weren't for getting Wiggins, Bennett, Lavine and Muhammad a ton of minutes, I'd almost wish they just folded up their tent and called it a season. Stop the bleeding, before one of their promising rookies shreds a knee/ankle.

Seriously...it is SO hard to be a Minnesota sports fan. Pretty-much been facing the "seven plagues" since the Twins won their second series in 1991. :kicksrock:

I'm having a hard time thinking of an arena chant better than when ROARacle starts the "WAAAARRIORS! WAAAARRIORS!"

Another team, another easy win. 11 in a row. Excited to see them play the Bulls.

The rockets have lost jones, Howard, and Beverly to extended time as well. Tarik freaking black is starting in the middle.

Rockets still #1 in team defense despite Dwight being out the last 5 games. I really am surprised by such a thing.
#3 in DRtg. Opponents are shooting an obscenely low 28% from 3 against them. Since 2000, no team has held opponents under 30%.
Fits their defensive (and offensive) philosophy of heavily comtesting those shots and running players off the line.
Sure, but it still isn't a sustainable rate and will regress towards the league average just as teams aren't going to continue to shoot over 40% from 3 vs the Mavs.

It will go up mainly because teams will adjust and take what HOU is giving them rather than taking the contested shots, ie the proportion of quality attempts will go down as a result of eliminating the poor ones. The number is more a product of their style of play and opponents being stubborn than variance.

Warriors have been called Dubs for a long time now, guess it's still new to people outside the bay area and only relevant cause Golden State is doing so well.

Curious for the folks who find it annoying, what would be a better way to reference the team? Or would you prefer to call them the "Warriors" every time you refer to them?
You could call them by their actual name like every other team does.
Yup exactly like every other team...including the ones below

Raps

Celts

Knicks

Sixers

Cavs

Wiz

Blazers

T-wovles (Wolves)

Clips

Griz

Mavs
Wiz is not Ok. Griz is not OK either. "Jizzlies" is acceptable because it's funny. The rest I can take or leave.
During the post LeBron era I called the Cavaliers the Cadavaliers.

I've never met or even heard of anyone from Delaware. Are we sure it's a real place?

Joe Biden says he's from Delaware. But can you really trust that guy?

Hmm, he came to my work and was unbelievably awesome actually. He took a selfie with a lady in the office and was essentially straddling her.

Colorado had a D-league team called The 14ers. But it wasn't even named after a year -- it was named after the numerous local mountain peaks over 14,000 feet in height.
