*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (3 Viewers)

The All Star game is basically unwatchable. By the end of the 3rd quarter the two teams will have combined for 100+ 3 point attempts. Lame.
For some reason this is a revelation every freaking year for soe of you guys. Been asleep for the last 20 years?
This was 30% more than the previous record (last year). And almost twice as much as the 3rd most.
More of a reference to the first sentence in the post. I DVR'd the game FWIW for when I have insomnia or jet lag.

Totally meaningless stat that I bring up only because of the ridiculous big deal Kobe fans made previously: Lebron needs two (2) points to become the all time allstar game points leader.

Larry Sanders is reportedly being bought out. Wonder if we will get some clarity on his personal issues in the process. He sure looked like a promising young big a couple years ago.

he has talent and it is sad that he has not used it but brohans it sure sounds like he has a bad head on his shoulders with fights and substance stuff all i can say is that i wish he can get right and maybe pick it up somewhere else take that to the bank

Abe - It sounds like Houston is looking to upgrade their PG spot and have had at least preliminary discussions with Denver and Phoenix regarding Dragic and Lawson. Dragic would come cheaper as he is an expiring deal and is probably the better fit with the Rockets even though Lawson is the better PG. Would you rather take a chance on Dragic (I'm guessing the price would probably be two firsts and some filler) or Lawson (probably something like Jones, two firsts, Capela and filler)?

6 for 20 in an All Star game, plays the most minutes of any player, but has to shut it down for the rest of season.

Okay. Enjoy your gig, Phil. You aren't winning #### with Carmelo Anthony.
Ill take a future with Melo, top 5 1st rd pick and ample capspace over what the Heat will have.

I'll take any NBA franchise w/o MElo over a future with MElo with that contract (cap increase or not). If you think MElo is going to be an asset thru the 2018-19 season I'm not sure what to tell ya. So he's going to start learning to play with others in the twilight of his career? Can't believe Phil was stupid enough to resign him to that money.

Ample capspace means nothing if you're wasting it away like the Knicks are accustomed to doing. Lots of teams will have ample cap space. Wlll the lure of playing with an aging MElo sway them? :lmao: Probably much like it did for the Lakers and Kobe....

To think the Bulls have Gasol/Butler/Mirotic .....by not signing Melo is just amazing. Butler's already the better player. Melo would have ruined another franchise.

Why would Butler have been gone?

Talk about the best moves are the ones that aren't made. Melo and Rose would have been a car wreck both on the court and financially. Playing 2-on-5 on offense and 3-on-5 on defense.

Abe's not here. Looks like he checked in yesterday, but think he's done posting. At least for awhile.

I don't know if the Knicks would have done it but I always (and you can find it in this thread) thought the Bulls should have traded Rose for Melo.If any roster could make up for Melo's lack of defense it is the Bulls. Noah, Gibson, and Butler are more than enough to cover for Melo. Noah plays from the elbow...Melo gets the block and the baseline. Taj is a bit sticky fit but he can be the 3rd big to play with both Noah and Melo and depending on match up you can play all three together. Carmelo is exactly the type of offensive force that would make this Bulls team complete.

You are over rating the Bulls defensively this year. They are middle of the pack in defensive efficiency. Adding Melo would have likely made them worse. I do remember reading that if they signed Melo last summer that it would have been a sign and trade. I think Gibson was part of that package.

:lmao:

Kobe Bryant (shoulder) said he's not considering retirement and is instead looking for a career "rebirth" after drawing inspiration from the Spurs' recent success.
When asked if he was considering retirement, Bryant steered the conversation a different direction. "I can't say it is the end," Kobe said. "I thought the Spurs were done 20 years ago. Those guys are still winning. So, to answer the question, I can't say this is the end of my era because I thought their [era] was done and they're still there. So I'm hoping I can have the same rebirth." While the Mamba should be ready for the start of training camp, his 2015-16 plans have no effect on fantasy owners in standard leagues.

Well put Kobe.

A lot of it has to do with Gasol displacing Noah from underneath the rim. Noah-Gibson-Melo frontcourt is good enough defensively...just have Melo guard the weaker of the PF/SF. In this scenario Rose would be gone and you try to find someone like Beverley or even CJ Watson and bam you're weakest defender on the floor is Melo. On offense Melo has better range and handles then Pau so the spacing is better.

The Bulls should have sold Rose 2 years ago when there was still hope he would comeback and he wasn't such a diva. Dude has always been overrated.

He'll be an asset in 2016-7 when the cap explodes. Basically any above average guy on a non-max contract will be an asset in a years time. I don't see how anyone can really argue that. Is it better than what the Bulls ended up with...of course not, but it's not like Anthony's contract will be a huge albatross either.

They'll still be paying him over 25% of their cap for a guy who brings zero defence and will be seeing his offensive game decline; not exactly an asset.

Disappointed to see Colin walking - he seems like a good dude. Hopefully he'll get the itch when the Rockets make a playoff run and come back.

Dragic saying he won't re-sign with the Suns next year and wants to be traded to the Lakers, Knicks, or Heat.

Would the Knicks or Lakers get any benefit by trading for him now versus waiting until he is a FA this summer? Bird rights just mean they can pay him more $, right?

Sounds like lose/lose to give up assets for him now just to pay more for him in the next contract. I guess that makes perfect Knicks/Lakers sense, though.

It is for sure lose/lose for the Lakers or Knicks. He would make those teams better and they might move up a spot or 2 and lose some ping pong balls. The Heat is a different story.

I guess the benefit for anyone trading for him is his cap hold is fairly small this summer (like $11m), so the Lakers/Knicks could sign someone else before his deal is finalized and their cap space is eaten up.

The benefit to trading for him now is to get the inside track on resigning him. If the Knicks deal for him he's unlikely to come back to LA, for example.

i would love to see the bucks get kanter but i do not know if they are willing to pay the price or if he woudl want to come to milwaukee but man another young guy on this roster you would have to worry about the bucks in two or three years take that to the bank brohans
