*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (2 Viewers)

i thought lawson was an ok player why would you give him up for george hill that guy is a game manager and not really all that good what the heck take that to the bank
Even the Nuggets and Shaw realize that isn't a good trade, I'm sure there would be much more involved.

Former Blazer Jerome Kersey has died at the age of 52.

RIP

He was one of my favorites. One of the best

that the game has ever seen. That makes 3 members of the 1989-90 Blazer team who has died young. :(

RIP to Kersey. Condolences to his family and friends.

Kersey was a great player, fun to watch. Explosive SF in his prime, reinvented himself as an undersized C after he lost a step.

Oh, those late 80s/early 90s Blazers. So much talent, so much fun, so little BKBIQ.

I remember when Duckworth was at Eastern Illinois (?). They played the Gophers and he just destroyed them. I was really young at the time and I know I spent more time laughing at the name Duckworth than appreciating his game, but he was really good.

RIP Jerome Kersey.

Was always a favorite of mine, loved the way he played with the Blazers. Was excited when he signed with the Lakers, just added to that great offseason, acquiring Shaq, Kobe, Byron Scott, Derek Fisher, Larry Krystkowiak, Travis Knight, and Sean Rooks that summer. Then trading Ced Ceballos for Robert Horry later in the year, it was a very exciting time. I couldn't wait for that season to start and Kersey was a big reason why. He started a bunch of games at SF for us, but it really didn't work out like I had hoped. He was made expendable the next offseason after we got Rick Fox, but even though he only played one year, it is something I will never forget.

He was a part of one of my favorite Jordan commercials too, repping the Lakers with Corie Blount.

52 is way to young, RIP.

that stinks about kersey he was one of the good ones and i actually did not know about duckworth who was actually a buck for a season but almost never played so this is sort of a double whammy this am very sad to see both go so young

You guys see yesterday that Reggie Jackson (through his agent) has asked the Thunder to trade him?

As a Thunder fan I'm not sure what value they get for him and he's playing (marginally) better lately so I was thinking he would just play out the season.

OKC doesn't normally let players walk for nothing though, so will be interesting to see what value he brings.

He also turned down 4/48 from the Thunder, which, Jesus.

Say what?!?! I missed this.

Jesus indeed. Seems like I've been wrong more offer than right on these, but I think he'll regret that.

Word around the campfire is KG back to Minny for Thad Young and Chase Budinger.

Is this all about shedding money?

The Nuggets are in full denial mode.

Shaw as their coach

Asking 2 firsts for Chandler

Asking a first and a second for Affalo

Probably not dumping Lawson while he still has value.

It looks like it will be rough the next 3 to 5 years for Nugget fans.

Tanking and trying to sell tickets with KG "coming home" to finish his career. Young is gone at the end of the season and there must not be much of a market for him. Budinger is crap and owed $5M next year.

I would like to see Toronto get in on this and throw a few 2nds and expiring deals for Young.

Do the T-Wolves really need to tank?

They're going to be battling it out with Knicks, Lakers and Sixers for the rest of the season. Those for teams are separated by 3 wins so every lose is critical. Going from Young to KG should save Wolves at least 1 win.

Even with the worst record, won't the NBA make sure that the T-Mutts don't get #1 overall what LA and NY being bigger markets?

For all the NBA experts here, who are the top five draftees this year?

Sadly enough this is true.

Shaw was the absolute wrong hire for this team from the start. The plodding, slow down style doesn't work in the West. Now all we have is a bunch of pieces that do not form a puzzle.

Shaw needs to be fired. They need to bring in a new, uptempo style coach that will utilize Denver's altitude advantage (but not totally abandon defense) and let the team build around this idea. I know this has been tried before, but it has had some success it just needs players to be brought in that fit that bill.

Denver is never getting a superstar free agent to sign and stay--period. So all these draft picks that are being wanted in trades mean nothing as far as what they can get a return on.

Facts are Kobe is no longer a factor, San Antonio is in decline, OKC and Golden State still will be tough, but the window is open for a young up and coming team to make some noise in the West 2-3 years down the road and Denver can do it if they embrace the rebuild with a new coach and the right plan.

Dragic's people are telling all the teams not on his wish list that he won't resign with them even if they offer a 5th year. Don't think the Suns will be able to get much for him without that leverage.

Yep. As a Laker fan, I hate this deal.

Brook Lopez

Things that don't make sense to me today:

Why would Larry Sanders' agent let his client give up $23 million?

Why would KG agree to go back to Minnesota?

Right now the order is something like:

Okafor

Towns

Russell

Mudiay

Porzingis

I'm fairly confident in saying Okafor and Towns will be All-Star level talents if they end up in the East at some point in their careers. Not so sure about the rest. Okafor is the sure offensive producer. Towns has the most upside.

Who is the third deceased Trailblazer?
Drazen Petrovic?Anyway, Jerome Kersey was one of my favorite players as a kid. Loved his hustle, loved his backstory. He was a 6-6 center at a Division II school but he led the nation in rebounding. He basically willed himself into being a well-rounded NBA player who could guard anyone and play 3 positions. And he was absolutely beloved by the city of Portland. He will be missed.

I'm irrationally excited for the possibility of KG coming back. I don't really even care what we send. I'd love to have him mentor our young guys and move in to the front office/coaching.

Hearing reports that he's seriously considering waiving his no-trade clause and is talking with Timberwolves higher ups about the deal.

Supposedly the Heat are offering 2 future first-rounders, but Sarver is throwing a temper tantrum over Dragic complaining publicly about the Suns. He's going to screw his own team just to cost Dragic $20 million (he may not get anyway) on the back end of whatever his next deal is. Or he's bluffing. Either is believable with Sarver.

We're in a bit of a weird spot also, roster-wise, in that while Okafor is probably the best player in the coming class, he fills the same role as Pekovic as a defensively challenged center who can score inside at a high rate. The logic answer would be to draft Okafor and trade Pek, but Pek is damn near untradeable with his large contract and chronic ankle issues. That doesn't even address the fact that we also have Dieng who is also only a C (I used to think he could slide over to PF if he learned the skills, but I just don't think that's his game and won't ever be).

We've also got a in-his-prime Euro stretch 4 (Nemanja Bjelica) stashed overseas that reportedly wants to come over next year.

I'd bet that the Wolves would probably go PF next draft ideally, but I could also see us going for a high upside SG or SF for a back court of Rubio + Draft pick + Wiggins in case LaVine never improves to starter level.

Nice work by Nuggets getting a 1st and 2nd for Afflalo. They also rid of Javale McGee (and plus a 1st) to the Sixers. Would what type of protection there's on that McGee 1st.

I am shocked that anyone gave up that much for Afflalo. He is a reserve on all the contenders and probably a rental.
