NCAA Basketball Thread - 2022-3 Season (1 Viewer)

Caitlin Clark was approached by the Iowa Food Bank for an NIL deal. She agreed to work with them but wouldn't take any money. Great story about that in the Athletic. I know who I'm rooting for today!
As a Nebrakan it's very hard for me to root for anything Iowa, but here we are. Never thought I would call a women's bball game must watch TV, but I set an Alexa reminder because Clark is just to much fun to watch.

I'm already on my first glass of Rosé :bag:

Pre-funk is on for Malaise & Co.
In support of my Iowan neighbors, I'm have a Busch Latte. No joke. Nebraskans drink a lot of those also. :bag:

Please tell me "Latte" was a typo. :lmao:

It is not. :lmao: It is what Busch Lights are referred to by many in these parts.

I think I'm afraid of the answer, but what is a Busch Latte?
Busch Light. ;)

Didn't realize Busch even leaned into it.

Thanks. I was afraid it was mixed with coffee or something

X2

I've consumed some real swill in my days - anything that just gets the job done - but my god, I was in the verge of heaving here.

I was scared, my friend. I've spilled more trash beer than most people have drank (drunk? drinked?). Empty (by me) Busch Light cans were my ash trays of the 1980s. I visited a friend a while back who apologized for only having Busch in the fridge. Several hours later, he didn't have any because we drank every damned one.

I love that UConn was top-10 before the tourney in offensive and defensive efficiency, 5th and Kenpom and the committee made them a 4 seed. And we have to take these people seriously and pretend like they know what they’re doing. It’s crazy.
I thought UConn, SDSU, & FAU were all under-seeded when the tourney started, and yet they all made it to the FF. UConn should have been a #2. SDSU probably a #3. And FAU a #5. For some reason, that bad mid-winter stretch led many to forget about UConn.

I like how difficult the seeding is these days, but there’s no way you can put the Big East 4th place team who didn’t even make the conference tournament final a #2.
Conference tournaments are pure variance. Shouldn’t be a factor at all.
They matter, but I think they should be weighted lower than other concerns.

If UConn had won the Big East tournament, it would be an easier argument to say they should be a 3. But its really hard look at Xavier who beat UConn twice, finished second in the conference and played in the conf tournament final and then seed UConn higher because of Kenpom.
How would you have seeded all 68 teams before you saw any NCAAT game results? I'm not trying to argue with you (you are smarter than I am), but any team's resume is a small sample size and we get caught up in these circular arguments that have no resolution.

I'm just pontificating here and probably missing the point. I have no special knowledge of college basketball. Every year there are arguments about seeding and that is part of the fun. But ever since I've been following this thing, the top seeds are always going to be teams that finished first or second in a big conference, with the exceptions being a mid-major like Gonzaga when they have an extraordinary season. It seems like 20/20 hindsight to me to say UConn was underseeded. Its got to be extremely rare for a fourth place team to get a 2 seed in the tournament. Big 10 and SEC 4th place teams were 7 seeds and the Pac-12 and ACC 4th place teams were in the NIT this year.

. It seems like 20/20 hindsight to me to say UConn was underseeded.
I believe a few of us said they were under seeded when it was announced.

They could have been a 3 in place of Baylor. Arguing a 2 seed was warranted is a reach though.
ya I agree they're underseeded, but people in hindsight like to say they should be a 1 or a 2 and they simply shouldn't have been based on their work. I'd for sure say a 3 though.

Sometimes you hear that a team takes on the persona of the coach.

Today LSU is taking on the persona of the coach's pantsuit.

This was the pre-game speech by Mulkey:

"Look at my suit. BECOME It!"

LSU player clobbers 20 on the rebound on Iowa's end. Then fourth foul on Iowa's big for rotating over on help defense. Officials are pure junk in this game.

Awful T on the best player in the world for basically nothing.

I picked them in my bracket to win the whole thing based on their underseeding and weak region. The only reason I didn’t draft them in quarters is because they went one pick ahead of me.

They were easily a 2 based on efficiency, but I do think they’re more of a 4 based on resume. So I don’t think the committee made a major blunder with them.

It’s really not hindsight.

So then isn't it hindsight when people are saying the committee screwed up and they should have been a 1 or 2 seed?
I agree with everything you said there, the committee has to go off of resume and they were a 3/4 based on those things. I think a 3 woulda been perfect but one spot isn't a big deal.

It probably is. There’s a difference between people who saw qqqthis coming based on efficiency research and people who are just saying it because of how dominant UCONN has been.

I'm pulling for Caitlin (but I just bet against her with LSU ML +135). Everyone is on the hype train with her (and rightfully so), but I always like to fade the hype.

I bet Iowa ML as I think this one will be tight.

I also just cannot get behind pulling for Kim Coachdashian and her past cringe behavior towards LGBTQ+ but that's too political so I'll just say again Go Hawkeyes and Caitlin Clark!
Sorry buddy. Hope you had the over. I had the under.

We had an afternoon commitment, so I asked my wife to record the game for us. She recorded ESPN, which was The Bird and Taurasi Show. So we ended up watching the game with the sound off. You know how the Mannings offer both witty and insightful commentary for MNF? Yeah, this wasn't that.

Props to LSU ...lot of great shooters and athletic talent. And props to Caitlin Clark for another impressive performance, but also the rest of the team for some gutty play.

We live in CT. and my wife is semi into UConnn WBB. We were watching the semis on Friday, she asked me to switch to the Bird/Taurasi cast. She lasted about 2 minutes
