Rhode Island Rams improves to 17-3 today, down 15 points and hit a 3 at the buzzer to win it. I picked a good year to get season tickets, currently ranked 24th and definitely the class of the A10 this year.
The way they are crushing the A10 is getting them at-large consideration, so they won’t have to win the A10 tourney to make the NCAAs.  No bad losses, and that neutral court win over Seton Hall not only got them a signature win, but also got UVA on their schedule, a big boost to their RPI ranking.

BracketMatrix has the Rams as a 6-seed right now, which lines up nicely with their poll rankings and pretty much splits the difference between their RPI and KenPom rankings.

Jayhawks looking like an Elite 8 team.
They're athletic enough on the perimeter to beat weak seeds who launch threes all game.
They're experienced enough to avoid a long series of bad mistakes.
They're able to put enough shooters on the floor to avoid long stretches of stagnant offense.
But they're not deep enough to win that short-turnaround weekend game on regionals weekend.

They're very good.  Probably good enough to keep the conference title streak alive even in a deep year for the conference.  But they're not as good as Nova, Purdue, UVA, or Xavier.

Twerps outmanned here and I expect that'll show by end of game, but nice start. Fans have had 6 days of tailgating to get ready.

Good first half by the Terps. Their defense was magnificent and MSU played like idiots. I don't expect either to continue in the 2nd, but the crowd's pumped on a rainy Sunday in DC so we'll see. I'm afraid poor Cowan's legs are gonna spin off.

Billy !!!!!!!!   :wall: :(

Jayhawks could have been dominant. Rats.
First season the Jayhawks have lost three home games since 1999.  That was the season after LaFrentz and Pierce left, and before Gooden, Collison, and Hinrich showed up.

I think today’s loss means Bill Self has one more Big XII loss at The Phog than Bryce Drew has.  I’ll double-check the count.

Davidson probably is the second best team in the A10 but Rhody should be able to take care of them at home.
Davidson straight rolling all these crap teams in the a-10. Will be interesting.  Ghost of jack Gibbs with the dagger from the corner in the air.

Still an entire month of basketball and conference tournaments, silly to assume any team can’t make a run. Clearly SJU is better than their record beating #1 and #4 in a week.

TSC released their top 16 S-curve and how those teams would be bracketed if the season ended today.

1s: UVA, Nova, Xavier, Purdue

2s: Auburn, Kansas, TSTSNBN, Cincinnati

3s: Clemson, Tx Tech, Sparty, UNC

4s: Tennessee, tOSU, Arizona, Oklahoma

Bracket Preview:

SOUTH: UVA, Cincy, Sparty, Tennessee

WEST: Purdue, KU, UNC, Arizona

EAST: Nova, TSTSNBN, Tx Tech, Ohio State

MIDWEST: Xavier, Auburn, Clemson, OU

Arizona over Zaga?  Goes to show how flawed RPI is when a team like Gonzaga who is ranked top ten on just about every metric based ranking system out there is also ranked 40th in RPI.

Rhode Island up to #16 in the country in the new AP poll, highest ranking in school history. My 8-year old son is going to be the ball boy tomorrow night for the game, little dude is fired up for it.

so my son walked onto the court last night and got his picture with Coach Hurley after the game, someone put it on ESPN...scroll down about half way on the page and you will see it:

Terrific!  What a great memento of the evening.

Nice performance by the Rams, too.

BracketMatrix has moved Rhode Island up to a 5-seed.  And looking at their projected 4-line, Rhody looks like they will be easy to root for in a 4v5 game.

yeah, hoping they move up to a 4 seed or drop to a 6 seed...hate that 5 seed giving the tourney history. EC Matthews got hurt in the game but hopefully he will not miss much time.

Nova destined for that #1 ranking next week.

So the committee’s superstars are all losing. Nova, Clemson...Good thing for them, wins and losses don’t matter anymore

NBA ...but still basketball related:

Bill Walton: “Hypocrite that you are, for you trust the chemicals in your brain to tell you they are chemicals. All knowledge is ultimately based on that which we cannot prove. Will you fight? Or will you perish like a dog?”

Dave: “And there’s a three by Lillard.”

It's been a great year to be a basketball fan in western New York.

  • St. Bonaventure, despite its early A-10 stumbles, sits at 2nd in the conference and just knocked off #16 Rhode Island last night.  If they can finish the season strong and make a deep A-10 tournament run, they could be looking at an at-large
  • UB clinched the MAC East division + first round MAC tournament bye last night (with 4 conference games still to play) and is sitting at 12-2 in conference.  The 2 losses both involved the Bulls blowing double-digit leads inside the final 10 minutes - if they could've played a full 40, they could be undefeated.  At-large bid is all-but-unobtainable despite their RPI currently at #33.
  • Canisius has risen from the ashes and has been throttling teams in the MAAC.  13-2 in conference, tied for 1st with Rider, with a game against Rider tomorrow to see who finishes MAAC play in the driver's seat.
  • Niagara has rebounded nicely from some terrible seasons to a solid 3rd in the MAAC at 11-4 in conference.

Bonnies should be squarely in after last night, they just need to avoid a bad loss.
